"Lo Stella" Ristorante is the oldest and most successful family owned restaurant operation in Portofino, Italy. It is one of the country’s most renowned historic family owned and operated restaurants for more than 167 years. Now, downtown Denver is home to this historically famed Italian restaurant, led by the 8th generation family member, Alessandro Polo.
At " Lo Stella" Ristorante you will find the original recipes from previous generations like Pesto sauce, Bolognese sauce, marinara, fish ravioli, vegetable ravioli, pappardelle, tagliatelle, pizza and a lot of Colorado meat and fish products cooked in our "ligurian" style.
Lo Stella Ristorante has also had 25 years of great success in Tokyo, Japan until 2013 when Alessandro decided to move to Denver to open this authentic Italian Restaurant.

Nice atmosphere good food great service.
Cleanliness of the restaurant was great, very friendly staff our server Virginia, was attentive but not annoying coffee and authentic fresh made deserts were the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. A great find will definitely eat here again!!

My wife and I eat here a lot. It's around the corner so we walk there, we just love the owner Fabrizio and all his staff - Leo and Virginia are the best!
The food is fantastic the bolognese is da bomb we always leave happy and with leftovers.

This was an awesome restaurant! The first impression when greeted at the door set the stage for the night. It was wonderful. Customer service was excellent, food was out of this world and we will definitely recommend this new-found Italian restaurant!! Thank you for a memorable evening.

Quiet little place near cap hill. Our waiter made a really good wine recommendation and answered all our questions about the menu.

Three of us got pasta- all of which had great sauce and pasta was fresh. My mom got the baked trout which looked really good and smelled even better.

Very authentic Italian. Pesto and homemade pasta excellent. Sauces were rich but subtle. Arugula salad with warm mushrooms was delicious. Still dreaming about that salad.

This restaurant was a find. Not only was it not too expensive, but service was spot on, food was quickly served, and the apps, meal, and dessert were all very tasty. We enjoyed our experience here very much and will return, hopefully soon.

My guest was served a filet with a mustard sausage, which she recommends. I do not recommend the elk, as it was prepared like lamb shank and not very tasty. Wine was like... "cosa successo?"

We always love our short vacation in northern Italy when visiting Lo Stella. The food is great, just as if you were there.
They are so good to make fresh gluten free pasta. It's the best I've had at any restaurant. The salads are always well appointed and a good size to share. The special that night was an elk dish which was wonderfully tender with a great sauce.

Look forward to our return visit.

I'd suggest some "great wine finds" at " bargain" prices. There are so many great wines today, and so many non-vinophiles drinking wine. This wine list was impressive, but boasted almost nothing under 55$ . No reason in the world a really decent Chianti, ,Valpolacello, or a red blend for 24-36 bucks couldn't be found that fits with the owners' obvious concern for fine wines, but doesn't break the bank. On a similar vein, the by the glass selections looked like they were last choice. It's hard to sell a glass of 80/bottle wine, I know. Maybe it's that long know wines. What I bought was delicious, so I trust them, but I would have bought a bottle if I'd seen some description and praise for it, and if it was on the bottle side of the menu.

I don't want to distract from the fact it was a beautiful, delicious meal.

From our wedding rehearsal dinner to date nights throughout the week, we love going to Lo Stella because their food is delicious and they service is bar none.

You will be greeted warmly and be swept away by the warm and inviting decor throughout.

Our favorite cocktail is the summer cosmo (with Disarrono)!

Their Tricolore salad is a yummy salad with mixed greens, and warm lightly sauteed mushrooms (to die for!)

Our fav main dish is their lamb...tender, savory and to (again) to die for.

Then, if you're in the mood for a dessert, we love their panna cotta...it's light with just enough sweetness to send you on your way.

Give them a try, I am certain you won't be disappointed. (:

My wife and I are season ticket holders at Curious Theatre and the dining choices near the theatre are limited. We usually alternate between Lo Stella and Charcoal. Both are excellent. On this visit, we started with the prosciutto and burrata, which was delicious. For our mains, my wife had the tagliatelle with bolognese, which she liked a lot, but didn't come close to finishing. I had the veal scaloppine, which also was quite good. We finished with an order of carrot cake - which didn't seem much like the carrot cakes we've had elsewhere - but it was okay. My wife had the Jim and Tammy Punch to drink, which she really enjoyed. I had a couple glasses of the Monchiero Nebbiolo, that matched my food well. Lo Stella is a neighborhood gem: consistently good food, good service, quiet enough to enjoy a conversation and, all-in-all, a good choice for pre-theatre dining.

Went here on a recommendation that this place was supposedly the best Italian food in downtown Denver but was mostly disappointed. We ordered a bottle of wine (a super Tuscan), which was exceptional, and ordered the bolognese and trout for dinner. The entrees were subpar to say the least. The bolognese was heavily cooked in orange oil and tasted like a slightly more expensive version of Chef Boyardee. The trout was cooked in far too many herbs and lemons that seemed to try to cover up the lack of a fresh piece of fish, making the meal almost tasteless.

Fabulous food and service. Electric vibe. We get a little too silly when we go out but it’s nice that the staff plays along. We are grateful to have such a super restaurant in our neighborhood. People travel for this place. Food really is authentic Italian. The tri-color salad is to die for.

Everything was just OK. The food was mediocre - not worth the price in my opinion. Good handmade pasta but the appetizers (Mussels and beef carpaccio) weren't good or worth the money. The service was very slow - and not in a good Italian-dining-experience kind of way. The server was extremely busy and rushed through our orders/questions. I understand it is difficult when it is busy/understaffed but we were often left without water/wine and it felt like we were just waiting around for him to come by the whole night- we were in a very visible spot by the expo station and he would ignore our glances or attempts to get service. When you are paying a large price for a dining experience (Over $200 for a meal) diners expect a better service experience. The restaurant seemed to have regular customers who got better treatment. This was a birthday celebration for my partner, and I was hoping to find a new pasta joint - but everything was just OK. I wouldn't come back when there are so many other places to go.

Had a great experience at Lo Stella. Our waitress Virginia was fantastic and went over and above to provide amazing service. The warmth of the restaurant was also great. Will definitely be returning to try other options on the menu.

Excellent authentic Italian food with normal size portions. This is our third time here and they have always been great. They ran out of Pesto (which means it is fresh) so I will be back to check that out.
