Great location for a romantic dinner. I took my wife there for her birthday since she loves Italian food. It was one of the best Authentic Italian restaurant we have been to. The service was great and the so was the food. The wait time for the food was not bad at all.
If you want great food and service this is the place for you.
Very nice Italian restaurant, staff is nice, food in very good
The gnocchi with Bolognese was my favorite I've had in this area. We ordered several dishes for the table and shared a bunch. It was all delicious.
We showed up early for our reservation but were still seated upon arrival. I really appreciated that.
The food was delicious, but the service was terrible! The waiter bump into me at least twice, one of which he elbowed me in the head, and did not apologize or even acknowledge that it had happened. Furthermore, he reached across my plate no less than three times to serve others at the table. Needless to say, the service left something to be desired.
This was an overall poor experience. Overpriced with EXCEPTIONALLY slow service then delivering wrong dish. Food was so-so at best.
The menu is very impressive and lengthy, leading you to want to return to experience more offerings. Service was attentive.
Closest parking is valet at Four Seasons Hotel, a short walk over a bridge, at $18, well worth the convenience.
Very nice restaurant, a bit over the top decoration but the food was really good. I only thing that didn't leave a good impression to me was that I felt like they wanted us to leave the place probably because we were not fancy enough dressed. For instance they brought us the check without us asking for it.
This place is over rated. The food is mediocre and the environment is pretentious. I would not recommend it.
The food was good. Not the best Italian I've had, but good. Only one dish comes with homemade pasta, so I recommend asking for that pasta to be substituted for whatever dish you order. The other pasta they use isn't great at all. The portions are small, so don't expect to take leftovers home... ok for us since we're out of town. The tables are packed in there. It was a maze trying to get out, and the guy at the next table literally turned around and asked if he could sit with us. It was a joke but pretty much a reality. The service was awful. We never got a refill on water or asked if we wanted another glass of wine, so by the time I was halfway done with my meal I was out of water. The waiter was at the table next to mine and I looked at him and gestured to my empty table and drinks, and he completely just walked away. There was literally no food left on the table and we waited 20 more minutes before getting up and walking to the front to pay ourselves. He looked like he didn't even know we hadn't paid yet and never even apologized. Maybe we got their worst server, but he really ruined the dinner.
Overall the food was tasty and well prepared and thoroughly enjoyed by the entire party. Initially the waiter service started strong and our waiter was courteous and friendly, but as the evening progressed on it was obvious that he was loosing interest, and the desert service fell flat and errors were made.
the service was good in the beginning but then we ended up waiting a long time for the main course.
Salad was drenched in dressing. Shrimp was tough and the red sauce tasted like it came out of a jar.
Very nice meal with my son, great culinary and service.
I had been to the restaurant some years ago and had told my wife it was a must visit that she would like. We are not from the area, but each time we visited DC and G'Town while 2 of our children attended college at GW and UMD respectively, we passed La Perla and I said we will eventually dine there. At somewhat last minute, I was looking for a place for Saturday evening and my wife mentioned La Perla. I had looked at other reataurant where the reviews indicated a love/hate appraisal. LaPerla had outstanding reviews by virtually everyone. Excellent food, service, ambiance, a little pricier than I would have liked, but well worth it for a evening out. I would highly recommend and will dine at LaPerla again without hesitation.
Excellent Service! I would highly recommend it to anyone!
Talk about old-school! In a very good way, dinner was at a comfortable lesisurely pace and the food was unique and sublime. The stuffed veal chop was served with a rich brown sauce with a hint of lemon, a combination that I would not have thought of but was delicious. I am anticipating enjoying tomorrow as the portion was beyond my capacity to consume in one sitting. Fettuccine Carbonara and pistachio gelato finished a great dinner. Wine list is varied and reasonably priced.
Service -usually good- was very slow. Chicken salad had a very watery dressing. Soup was micro-waved and was extremely hot, had to wait for it to cool down.
Although we typically have great service and great food, this time was a disappointment.
Always a great time and great meal. Not a bad choice to be made. Attentive and friendly service! The steak and the veal chop are excellent choices! Best fried calamari in the DC area.
Enjoyed the food, very good service. Chef came to check on each table - nice touch. Location is a bit strange, as restaurant entrance on a busy pointed intersection that doesn't allow for easy in/out at valet. Atmosphere was a bit tired/stale - needs a refresh.
But authentic Italian cuisine. My seafood pasta shops di pesce was drowning in oil, wine, marinara broth, but seafood itself well cooked and fresh. Daughters lobster ravioli was a hit. Fried calamari excellent and not overdone, endive salad fresh and light dressing.
Delicious Meal with Attentive staff. We had the meat Lasagna and it was wonderful.
One of the best restaurants I have been to in DC. Great place to eat if you are on your way to the Kennedy Center.
My wife and I were in DC with our teenage girls, and La Perla was an excellent place to go after a couple of hours of shopping in Georgetown. The soups were really good as was the lasagna. The ravioli was exceptional, especially the one stuffed with lobster.
The Gamberi del Pescatore was okay, not exceptional, as I have come to expect at La Perla. The waiter obviously was new, and seemingly overwhelmed with many of the tables he was serving.
This is one of the best Italian dining experiences I have ever had! The food was fantastic and we even had the privilege of meeting Chef Testa himself. I will definitely be back, and I have already recommended this restaurant to friends. Try the kiss of Naples for dessert, you won't be disappointed!
Great chef and staff. Top quality food for every taste since first visited 5 years
ago in DC
Nicely done La Perla - always consistent with good food and good service.
Friendly and fun atmosphere. Love the executive chef.
Table was ready at reservation time even though restaurant was very crowded. This is an established restaurant with probably a bit older clientele. We dined with an older Italian couple and good friends of ours that don't really have great appetites, but we had a great time. The menu was huge and a lot to review. Unfortunately, the waiter never made recommendations really, and we did not ask either, which may have been a mistake.
The service was slow due to a very large group in the restaurant but we were not in a hurry. The wild boar was not seasoned well and very bland, my trout was excellent, cooked to perfection and seasoned well. My husbands steak was delicious. My dining partner did not eat too much of her veal dish, but also did not complain about it, so not sure. The homemade gelato was fabulous. Overall, great evening, expensive and good for a special occasion.
Wonderful food and menu; just what we were looking for; authentic Italian; excellent service and atmosphere.
Ordinarily you would have to go to Europe to get such wonderful fresh and creative sauces for your food. The chef-owner uses everything fresh and while it takes a while, one does not go to this kind of restaurant for fast food. The service was a bit uneven but the place was full and so it was understandable. I have been back 3 times over the past 6 months and each visit was worth it and each time my friends agreed.
Delicious, delicious food. Soft lighting and quiet- so great for dates or intimate family/ friend dinners. Second time going and both times food excellent. Menu is huge- so many options it's hard to pick. Staff was high level both visits. Expensive- but worth it. We will go again.
Food and service some of the best I've ever had. Did I mention how phenomenal the food was?!
Rainbow trout stuffed with spinach and crab was delicious!
Great food, great service, classic dining
Another excellent dining experience. It's a neighborhood gym. The service and quality of food is always a hit!
My fiance and I visited for Valentine's day and the whole experience was wonderful. Mozzarella caprese for an app, eggplant parmigiano, chicken marsala, tira misu.... it was all delicious and the service was on point. It was a little noisier, but it was Valentine's day so it was packed and to be expected. We'll definitely be going back
The ambiance was great and you could tell it was family restaurant. Overall, I thought it was a pretty plain Italian restaurant that didn't pack that much flavor in the dishes. Given the price point, I would have expected a bit more.
It was a birthday dinner for my wife. We were free ted by name when we arrived and were shown to a nice window table by the windows. The service was very gracious and attentive without being overbearing and intrusive. My wife had osso bucco which she thought was excellent. I had a very nice pasta dish with jumbo shrimp which was prepared perfectly albeit with only three shrimp. Prices were appropriately DC-expensive with entrees between $30 and $42 but a good value for the quality and ambiance and service.
Dessert was a complimentary white chocolate mousse with birthday candle -- very thoughtful.
All-in-all, it was a very special birthday dinner and I would not hesitate to give it a very high recommendation.
This was the worst experience ever. First off I had to wait 5 min for valet in which I was blocking a lane of cars and getting honked at by other cars while waiting for valet. Find out the valet were also the waitstaff. We get inside and our table was next to the host stand. We were less than 6 inches from the stand in which the phone was ringing, valet was throwing car keys in the drawer, host computer wires were hanging out on our table., etc. Took 10 min to get a bottle of water. Had to ask for tea three times before we got it. Never refilled water. Had to ask for salt and pepper. Appetizer came and we had two slices of tomato with two slices of mozzarella for $19.00. Are you kidding me? Entrees were ok until about 3 hrs later when I got sick off of the trout. When we left and tried to find someone to get our car they had me dig through the drawer of keys to find the keys to my car. They said they couldn't find my keys. While waiting for the car
I informed our waiter and the host of how horrible the evening had been that table location was horrible. They both smiled and said nothing. They knew it was wrong and poor customer service to put a table next to the host stand which was also next to front door thank goodness it was 50 outside or we would have had to eat with our coats on.
I would not go back and will never recommend this place to any of my clients. What was to be a nice romantic evening. Turned out horrible! Wish I had my $135.00 back!
I thought the food was very so-so and seemed expensive for what it was. The decor was kind of homey and did not seem very distinctive.
Chef Tesla visits every table, great food and a great experience
