When we arrived there was not a hostess and we waited almost 12 minutes before someone approached us to be seated. The service was good the food was good however I thought the restaurant was a little dated. I definitely would go back there again in a pinch. It was not bad at all
We have visited La Buca several times prior to a show at the Walnut Street Theater. The food and service is always wonderful. We always leave full!
We have been going to this restaurant for several years and one of the things I like best is the consistent food grade. HOWEVER, this time I did not enjoy the salad (too much dressing) and my fish was not cooked enough. It is a pricey restaurant and was not enjoyed this past weekend.
My husband and I have been to La Buca many times. We go at least once during theatre season. They are an excellent choice for a pre-theatre meal. As always the service and food were excellent. I have to give a shout out to Tom our waiter. He was very attentive and accommodating; can't say enough good things about him. Our food was outstanding. My husband and I both had fish. Tom fileted them beautifully with virtually no bones found. The dessert selection was plentiful and our selections were very good. My husband had the berries and I the tiramisu. I would highly recommend La Buca and my husband and I look forward to going back again.
This was an excellent meal and the ambience was lovely
Yum. Great fresh fish. Quite old fashion elegance.
La Buca is an excellent restaurant. We have been going there for years and they consistently serve up the most delicious dinners, whether it is stuffed shells, a small filet, swordfish, veal chop or salmon. It is always a dilemma as to what to order because we enjoy it all. The service is an additional plus because of the professional waitstaff.
They made my birthday dinner so special! Loved the calamari!
Food was good but our waiter was very abrupt and rude. The bill, which was handwritten was hard to decipher and the amount was wrong. We were overcharged by $10 for the wine. It took a while to get it straightened out and we were almost late for the theater.
I lived in Rome, Italy, and my congratulations to the chef. Excellent food. Service on the other hand was fair to poor. This could have been due to too many tables for one waiter. The house wine was excellent (Valpolicella).
We have been here dozens of times and had impeccable food and service. This particular night it was very crowded and seating took some time (30 minute wait even though we had a reservation), and the food was slow to come out. This is never a problem. Consistently great food, fantastic service, and such a hidden treasure.
We had a good experience on our first visit to this restaurant. The food was great, a veal was tender and perfectly done. Btw, the restaurant's helping hand with the parking was shockingly positive addition to the time well spent and having dinner in the city.
Overall, we would come back.
First time here and will go back next time we are in Philly. Superb food and service.
WOW, did not know what to expect in the "Basement". This restaurant made me feel like we were back in Italy. The food was wonderful, the ambiance is lovely and our waiter was excellent. This will definitely be a go-to place for us. I had Gamberi over risotto in a pink vodka cream sauce. I wanted to lick my fingers and the plate, it was so well done. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce over risotto was soooo good. Others with me had Salmon (excellent) Chicken Primavera (excellent) and Clams over linguine (excellent and the pasta was al dente). Could not have asked for better dinners. The desserts were delicious with multiple choices and the espresso was awesome!
This was our first (and probably last) time eating at La Buca. The food was very good and our waiter was pleasant. Service was backed up due to a theatrical performance--no problem, we're patient people and were not in a rush. The problem was with the cost of the food and portion size. As a family of 4 our bill (prior to using a Groupon) came to $235--that was 3 appetizers, a house salad (del Campo), 3 glasses of wine, one soda, 4 entrees, and 4 desserts. Typically, we're too stuffed after a hearty Italian meal for dessert, but not here. Way too pricey! Again, not knocking the food or the desserts--both very good--just the cost.
My wife and I tried La Buca because it is really close to the Walnut Street Theater. It was our second visit and wanted to give it another chance. Ambiance is a bit dated but that doesn't bother me. I just thought the food lacked any creativity. The meal I received in both visits seemed like what I am usually served at weddings. A bit bland and under seasoned but good enough if you're feeding 200 people at the same time. I hoped the food would be better our second visit but it wasn't. There are too many other options that put effort into their dishes. We won't be back.
We had not had the opportunity to visit La Buca for several years. We had a great pre-theatre meal and cocktails. Hopefully, we will get back again soon.
Food presentation excellent, many specials and regular options, reasonably priced, attentive service. I would definitely recommend. A quality dining experience!
Still one of my favorites for delicious selection of fresh fish and Italian food.
Our waiter Tony was extremely attentive and wonderful. Best meal I’ve ever had ( and I’m Italian)
Our meal was delicious and waitstaff was attentive. We had two kids with us and I wouldn’t say it was a kid friendly restaurant.
For the overall experience, I feel that the food prices are a little on the high side for what is served. This is relative to other Italian restaurants where I have dined. Taste of food was outstanding, portions a little small, and in my opinion about 20 - 25% above the price I would expect to pay.
Always treat you like your special. The Maitre'D ]Abraham] is attentive and always will pick the appropriate bottle of wine based upon the food choices. The waitstaff-Tommy in particular, is probably the best in the city. Food is always prepared exquisitely-nothing gets sent back-it is either finished at the table or packed to go-no matter how small of a portion is left.
Love this restaurant, old school Italian that somehow remains fresh and authentic. Excellent wine list with reasonable choices, fresh seafood, amazing scallops, the pastas are delicious and the service is always excellent.
Wonderful traditional Italian. The next generation is keeping the great food and service. Still a favorite after 35 years.
Walking down the stairs into this large but cozy restaurant makes it seem more intimate than it is. The food was good. Our only real complaint was that we were seated at a large round table for six - and it was just the two of us for our anniversary! The bar area is nice, I almost would have preferred to sit there. It looks like they only have large banquet-style tables. Weird. But the food is good old-style Italian (terrific veal parmigiana), service was on top of it, and we loved the Limoncello cake for dessert.
Service was very good and our dinners better.
My wife and I are semi-regulars. But this was a special occasion dinner for 7. Service by Thomas exceptional as usual. Food was great. All around excellent experience
A throwback to a gentler time. They don't just tell you about the specials, they wheel over a cart with all of the specials plated! Dessert? Yes, they do it for that too. I've been here several times and have enjoyed the service and the food each time!
First time here, liked it very much for its authentic Italian feel, cozy bar atmosphere, holiday decorations, murals were extra interesting. Not to mention food was very good, reasonable pricing and very friendly bartender! I would go back!
