First time here, liked it very much for its authentic Italian feel, cozy bar atmosphere, holiday decorations, murals were extra interesting. Not to mention food was very good, reasonable pricing and very friendly bartender! I would go back!

The decor hasn't been updated in 35 years but the food and cocktails are very good. My husband and I enjoyed our meal and would definitely go back. My Dover sole was excellent!!

As usual La Buca provides an excellent dining experience. The food is very good and the service is very good, although a little slower than you might like. All in all, it is worth going here and coming back for an enjoyable dinner.

My wife had been to La Buca's many times in the past and raved about the food, especially the Bronzino and the service. So we and friends of ours went there this past Monday evening. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not live up to expectations this time. The service and ambiance were fine. It was the food itself that was sub par. My wife ordered a salad and initially, they brought the wrong one. Instead of just replacing it, the waiter brought the missing ingredients to the table in small bowls and my wife wound up basically making her own salad. She said it wasn't very good anyway. She also ordered the Bronzino as she often has in the past and while the taste was very good the tableside waiter did not remove many of the bones and she wound up having to be very careful while eating it for fear of choking. I ordered mussels as an appetizer and when the waiter brought it to our table you could immediately detect a very strong fishy smell. I order mussels all the time and have never experience that before. I tried to ignore the smell and eat the appetizer but wound up leaving most of them on my plate. To finish things off, I ordered swordfish for my entrée. The piece the waiter showed us on tray before the meal was at least 2 inches thick and looked beautiful. The piece on my plate was about 1/2" thick and was a little tough. The entre came with Broccoli that was soggy with butter and some scalloped potatoes that were luke-warm.

Overall a very disappointing experience. Maybe it was because it was a Monday night? Who knows but we won't be going back anytime soon.

After a busy day of touring the city, we were all tired and enjoyed a delicious dinner as a group of 5. We were looking for a quiet place off the "tourist" map for dinner to please different tastes - primarily great steak and Italian! Scored on both!. Cozy "OLD SCHOOL" dining made the evening relaxing, enjoyable, and reminiscent of mature dining back-in-the-day. Unpretentious, white table clothes, real, down-to-earth, with excellent food and staff. We look forward to returning every time we visit Philly to see our child in college. Special FIND and GEM!

Great location close to the Walnut Street Theater. Decor is a bit dated and it’s in a basement. Service was good but food was average at best. Was hoping for a bit of creativity by the chef but pretty standard dishes are on the menu. I had the Veal La Buca and was really disappointed. My wife had Gamberi Dan Remo which was a much better dish but nothing special. Both dishes pretty flat and flavorless. We’ll give it another chance but will certainly order something different. Maybe it was an off night in the kitchen?

We started with the calamari, flavorful and perfectly cooked. Loved the peppers on top! My husband had a penne pasta with a spicy red sauce, it was delicious! I had the Bronzino, it was perfectly cooked, however, it was fillet table side and was riddled with bones. Not just one or two, more like 7 times I had to remove bones from my mouth. The sides were pretty disappointing as well, a boiled broccoli floret and a squirt of sad whipped potatoes. Neither of us had dessert. Wine selection is one house selection of nearly every popular type of wine. My husband prefers IPAs and they did have one if those. I had the house pino noir, it was fine. The decor is a flashback to my childhood for sure. The service was exceptional! I would go back and order a pasta dish next time.

Service was wonderful! We sat at the bar while waiting for our friends, staff couldn't be nicer! Drinks were good food was even better! Our server was a gem! Everything was tasty and hot! The gnoccchi were awseome and all the other dishes were just as good! Shared a few apps for the table very impressed! The tiramisu was delightful! Definitely will be returning, we all had a great night with friends and great food!

The veal dishes were amazing. My filet mignon came medium well when I asked for medium rare, which was a dissapointment, but the server was fantastic. Derek made up for it with great service. My glass was never empty and we laughed our socks off. The decor was a little dated but we found it charming.

We chose to have lunch here for my husband’s birthday. We arrived at 1 and there was only one other table of 2 there. It was nice to have the place to ourselves. Since it was our first time, I’m not sure if it’s normally quiet at lunch. The menu was full of traditional Italian dishes. The service was excellent. There was one older Italian man taking care of the diners. We didn’t see anyone else. The food was delicious. I’d go back again.

La Buca is one of my all time favorite restaurants! The food, wine, ambiance and service are all outstanding! Abraham is an extraordinary Manager, takes amazing care of all of the guests and is one of the main reasons we love to dine at least weekly at La Buca! La Buca is a true gem in the city.

had a groupon which made this meal a real bargain. but would have been happy to pay full price. have been coming to la buca since the 80's and always forget about it since there are so many new restaurants to try. but each time we come we are pleased with the great "old style italian" food, ambiance and service. takes us back to when dining out was a little more of a special outing. had a nice bottle of a roso demontalcino, calamari and the special rib eye steak with veggies. sampled from around the table and really enjoyed the eggplant parm app. desserts were all well received w me sticking with the classic tiramisu since i was going 80's all the way. already looking forward to keeping la buca in the rotation of our repeat restaurants.

We enjoyed our pre-opera meal at La Buca. Having read reviews about the slowness of service, we made sure to reserve a 6 p.m. table for the 8 p.m. show, let the staff know we had a curtain call, and all was well. The service was a little discombobulated--while some tables seemed to have one server, we had a variety of people taking our order, etc., we were never sure who to flag, and at the end we had to wait for one person who was carving to get us our check. The food was very good, including my scallop dish, which was excellently prepared. This is an old school Italian restaurant, solid, but don't expect new American cuisine!

Restaurant located on lower level, no windows kind of dark
old fashioned Italian restaurant, waiters used carts to bring out food
we noticed waiter did not present seafood options cart like he did the rest of his customers
my penne bolognese was good
ordered baked clams, that were not offered on the menu and they were ok. Not their fault, i just did not like them...
food is made to order so took along time to come out. If you go warn waiter if you have to go to a concert etc.
just felt the overall experience was just ok. there are so many great restaurants in Philly that i dont feel the need to come back.
bartender did validate my parking lot fee which was very nice
