Pan Seared Sea Scallops
Good food and service.
Food was good but not as good as I remembered. I missed the presentation carts with the fresh fish. I also missed my regular server who never came back after the restaurant reopened for indoor dining. No tableside service for fileting, took away from the ambiance and complexion of the restaurant. Missed the dessert cart too.
Service was VERY SLOW!!!!!!!!. This was an anomaly but it was still unacceptable.
Three of us went to dinner on Wednesday at la buca. I personally been there many times and two observations they are struggling financially because of pandemic as a result there was one server who was being the hostess the server and bartender for four tables of people at least obviously that slow down the service we waited 15 minutes or so before we even got a drink. I ordered one of the veal dishes and it came out overcooked and partially burnt on the edges. It was taken back and redone but the second result was the same as the first. I may have to reconsider going back although I will admit that's the first time that has happened.
We have been to this restaurant many times and in fact we were having sort of a memorial get together for a deceased person who was a long time devotee. It never disappoints. We did have someone of a wait at the beginning and it was a very busy night and the server was occupied with a large table. We ordered an appetizer of fried calamari and we shared that I thought it was a little overcooked. I ordered veal saltimbocca and theybrought out chicken instead which they quickly changed after the air was brought to their attention.
This used to be one of my favorites but the service has gone down (one server for 10 tables?) and a surcharge for ordering a drink of the rocks is ridiculous.
No frills Italian that hits the spot! Try the rum cake if it’s available!
A wonderful meal on a "pandemic" Monday night. My branzino was delicious, the Caesar sale was made with real anchovies, the wine and drinks were good and our server was hustling from table to bar to table keeping everyone happy. Likely there were two people working - he and the chef, perhaps also an assistant in the kitchen - but the meal, as has always been true at La Buca, was delightful. There's a reason why this restaurant has been successful for somewhere around 40 years: good food, good prices, good service, nice ambience and some of the best fish in the City along with the Italian specialties. Highly recommended.
Alfredo Is very professional & an extremely attentive waiter. The food was delicious , nicely portioned and affordable.
It was extremely slow for food to come. The dinner took way too long and we were waiting impatiently to see our food
Excellent dinner, nice atmosphere and wonderful service. highly recommended.
Myself being the pickiest eater ever.. the food was a 10 out of 10!! Everything was beyond Fresh!
Great low key restaurant!
You walk down stairs to enter the restaurant. Very low key and romantic. Very outdated decor. Warm and cozy. Awesome server and hostess. Pretty quiet. Food was subpar. Calamari was delicious. Mozzarella sticks tasted reheated from the freezer. Their special Seafood Risotto wasn’t done; crunchy risotto but good seafood and broth. The waitress was awesome to have them give me the broth and seafood over linguini instead. The bread was hard and stale. In a nice location so you expected more. Not worth the money. Really think they need Restaurant Impossible or Gordon Ramsey to reinvent the space and menu.
Everything was really excellent. The space could use some upgrades but did not detract from a really wonderful dining experience.
Went here for date night and it was a wonderful experience! I’m not a big alcohol drinker so the drinks weren’t my favorite but the food was tens across the board!
Excellent service and delicious food & cocktails. Highly recommended!
Our visit to la Buca is always a great experience. The food, the service, the atmosphere. All wonderful. A favorite place by far.
Very romantic and private spot with incredible food. The waiter was so friendly and accommodating and I had a beautiful date here. Highly recommend!
A well kept secret in Washington Square West. Food and service is outstanding. Plenty of room to spread out while being well cared for by a professional staff. The food is fresh and delicious. The restaurant is a bit of a throwback in time. Enjoy, I did.
I'm sure this place was hopping before COVID-19 since its right around the corner from the hospital. Very quite for a Saturday night. 3 tables. We're 50-60 and they had an easy 20 years on us. Service and food were good. Nothing OMG out of this world but a nice meal. The bar didn't have bloody mary mix, but not the end of the world.
Glad we tried it and it was a good quiet meal. I won't drive an hour again though.
All in all, good for mature couple date night.
We have been regulars for la buca for many years and have found the food always to be consistently good however my particular entree last Saturday night was veal la buca and it was slightly overcooked the edges of the veal were burnt. The server was very gracious and took it off the check. This was probably a one-time fluke
Love this place always consistently great food and service. Fresh seafood and excellent pastas. The lobster franchise was succulent and delicious Scallops outstanding and the butternut squash ravioli delicate and flavorful. Large and affordable wine list. Must have desert is the limoncello cake.
Another wonderful dining experience at La Buca. An outstanding staff.
The mussels were some of the best I have ever had. The house Chardonnay paired well with the Scampi which was one of the best I’ve had. The staff are friendly and helpful!! We will be back.
As always, food was so good. Kitchen (Anthony) was very accommodating making some of our favorites not on the menu. Fish is always fresh and delicious. I always get the Dover sole or the langoustinos which I love but decided to try the pompano this time. I was not disappointed!
We ate outside with one server for 6 tables, upstairs from the restaurant. I suspect that the kitchen was the problem but it too forever to get our food.
Some of the food was good, although the bronzino entree was tasteless - dried out and very little seasoning. Lamb chops were good.
Service was ok and attentive (server Kathy was very friendly), but spoke quickly and rushed away a couple times before we were finished speaking or asking questions.
We like to try the flashy new restaurants in Philly (at least before Covid), but we always return to La Buca. In over 15 years going there a couple of times a month, we've never had a bad meal or bad service. It is amazingly consistent. The food is always perfectly cooked and the seafood is fresh and some of the best in the city. Everyone's meal always arrives hot (my pet peeve is lukewarm food). Service is very professional. We have eaten outside during Covid and it's been quite pleasant.
As always fresh seafood is a stand out here. Enjoyed the scallops and the grilled langustinos. Classic ceasar salad Service was great and they took all the COVID 19 precautions. Will be back.
The food was fantastic. I had the fettuccine alfredo and it was by far the best I’ve ever had. Friends got the chicken parmesan and it was amazing and so was the gnocchi. Wine choices were decent and good value, the wait staff was attentive and entertaining.
All in all, amazing.
We returned to an old favorite after a hiatus, to celebrate my daughter's birthday, and were reminded of why we had liked La Buca so much. The hostess was gracious about fluctuations in the number of our largish party. Our waiter, Michael, was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding, with seared scallops and pasta fra diavolo as standouts. Perfect spot for a family gathering. We really felt at home. We won't wait so long to return!
We frequently dine here before the theater as it one of our favorites. The food was outstanding as usual however the service was lacking. We sat down at 6:30 and didn’t receive our entrees unit 7:35. This left us little to no time to enjoy our meal.
Always excellent- entrees and specials were delicious and nicely presented
Great ambiance, subdued and congenial. Waiters excellent; barman very knowledgeable. Large menu.
Very good food, efficient service, and reasonably priced wine by the bottle. Although it was a fairly busy night, we were still able to have a conversation, a rare occurrence in a Philadelphia restaurant. We shared a Sauteed Radicchio, Shiitake, & Bacon Salad, followed by the Seafood Livornese and the Vitello Fiorentina. We skipped dessert and finished with excellent coffee.
This was my third visit. One of my favorite restaurants in Philly! The food , the service and ambiance everything was wonderful! I will be back.
First time and can’t wait to go back. Service was great and food was fabulousl
Great food, amazing atmosphere, exceptional service!
Went to this Italian restaurant for Valentine’s Day, and had been there before. It’s one of the few places in town where the pasta actually tastes homemade (not sure if it is). They had 2 pasta specials for V-day, one spicy gnocchi with shrimp and vegetable ravioli, and my husband and I ordered them. They were very good and filling, yet the portions are just the right size so you don’t overdo it (a bad habit of mine when it comes to pasta!).
The homemade desserts they bring to the table are perfect for sharing. Again, nice portion sizes for the price but not so overwhelming that you ruin your diet.
They have an Italian beer my husband likes and the weekend bartender makes a really good appletini. We’ll be back for sure.
