Ristorante Italiano - Excelsior Inn
Lovely restaurant with outstanding food and service. The ambience is very romantic. Perfect for a date night or special occasions.
Had a very delightful Valentines dinner. Everything was perfect and we will have brunch on Sunday. Only issue is limited parking and someone (not in the Restaurant) blocked in my car for ten minutes. Female college student(?) parked her truck blocking four cars. She was loading furniture. Food was plentiful and tasted delicious. The scallops and lobster ravioli was delicious. Servicer was attentive, ensured everything was served hot, tasted great, and all special order request was perfect. Restaurant was very full but the noise level was well below what I expected. I never had to turn my hearing aids off or down. Great acoustic dampening of sound and I could carry on a nice conversation with wife, made a great date.
We moved away from Eugene 20 years ago but were attending an event last weekend and made a reservation. We were delighted to have an excellent dinner. From the salad to the entries everything was excellent. The wine list very reasonably priced and a very nice list. The only miss was dessert as I was dying to have the tiramisu but we were very full and off to our event. I’ll be back for dessert!! We definitely miss the Excelsior!
This place is gem of a restaurant. The food is the best. You will love your server because of the knowledge they have and willingness to take care of you.
First time. It was a perfect date for my wife and I
Thank you for the wonderful dining experience at your beautiful establishment. The food and wine exceeded our expectations! The service was exceptional!
Food was excellent, but had a bit too much salt. I had the lamb stew.
My husband saw the menu and didn’t think our 19 year old would find an appealing entree. I called to confirm our reservation and to ask if we could order off of the bistro menu instead of the evening dining room menu. The staffer was very accommodating and we could do so. We arrived promptly and saw there were quite a few open tables. My family laughed that we needed a reservation at 7:00 pm. I had to ask our hostess (who I had just spoken to on the phone) for the bistro menu. I felt like I was in an alternate universe. She only gave us formal dining room menus and seemed to have forgotten this important request.
Our server placed us in front of the warm fire place and we were very comfortable and cozy. The ambiance was perfect.
The restaurant advertised slow cooking but it seemed that our food appeared rather quickly / almost immediately after ordering.
The wine menu though short did have selections from Oregon and California. My wine was delicious but pricy per the glass.
I asked for plain food with the sauce on the side. Our server assured me their food is gourmet and not that “type” of restaurant
My scallop dish, when served - was floating in a weird sauce. There was something very bitter in the mix and too much vinegar. The scallops alone were fresh though a little over salted. Surprisingly, they were not soggy. I would not order that dish again - unless they allow you to HOLD: the sauces and the salt as I had first requested.
The mixed fried seafood appetizer located on every menu tasted fresh and non greasy but heavily breaded. The pasta dish was sublime and perhaps the best dish ordered. The sauce was tasty and they make their pasta. Very respectable. My husband ordered the lamb. It was also delicious but overwhelmed with sauce and mash potatoes.
Pricy though we did not have desert
It seemed like the meals were slowly cooked and then frozen or prepared at another time and reheated.
The restaurant adventure in Eugene continues
Great food and service
We have a family Brunch the Sunday before Christmas. I recently moved here from New York where there are elegant, stunning restaurants that feed your soul as well as your stomach. Beauty is not on Eugene’s radar. They tried to put us on the inelegant bar side, but accommodated us with the pretty dining room. Other than that all was great.
Holiday dinner. Great food, a little slow...
great wine list. Dropped 700 for 7 people including drinks
Wine and tip. Overall I was very impressed.
This place is a treasure as we have been going to Excelsior for a few years now.
It’s our favorite spot to bring good friends or to celebrate something special. The Italian food is amazing as it is not a pasta spot but for authentic full favored food. The wine menu and desserts are very impressive as well. The other thing to note is they use local source food to ensure quality.
We usually prefer to go when U of O is off season like the winter and summer for parking reasons.
We made reservations for a special anniversary dinner (on line) Assumed we would be seated in the elegant dining room. We were seated in a "Bistro" area - through the bar. Food was good, service was adequate and friendly. but the noise from the bar was annoying, and there wasn't even a table cloth on our table. In short, it was not the elegant dining experience we expected - and paid for. I think we should have be advised in advance if the dining room was not available at our selected date and time.
Elegant atmosphere and fabulous food for a festive Christmastime dinner with friends.
Always consistent, good food! Friendly engaging owner chef.
As always, our experience at Excelsior was fun and fabulous! It is one of our very favorite places to go in Eugene and never disappoints. Our waitress was wonderfully attentive without being intrusive. The ambiance was really festive and beautiful. I felt very lucky we were able to get reservations at this busy holiday time. Thank you for adding to a wonderful holiday season,
We had a large office Christmas dinner. We were placed in a beautiful room for the evening. Service was top notch. Best appetizers in town (prawns, calamari, carpaccio). Excellent wine list. Everyone enjoyed their entree and dessert.
Lovely relaxed dinner with my wife’s parents, his 82nd birthday. Food, drinks, service was perfect, as expected.
Two out of three meals were excellent the osso bucco was not good, small and sauce was non close to traditional. I would not order again. Basically, do a better job or take it off the menu.
Very nice meal with excellent service, would recommend it to anyone...
The Excelsior is my favorite place to hide out when I’m visiting Eugene — like a classic European pensione with careful attention paid to every detail and wonderful service too!
A quiet Monday dining experience with excellent ling cod preparation and attentive but not intrusive service.
Great job with brunch. A number of perfectly executed egg dishes (three kinds of eggs benedict). Even the waffles are a little bit different. Service was really first rate as well. Lower part of the sun room is quieter than the upper part by the bar. Recommended.
Pretty good food even though the night we went they had a reduced menu. Very friendly staff and would go again
Small portions and fairly pricey ...nice location and staff
The evening was delightful for our friends birthday. This is her favorite place to dine and was my first time to visit. Truly lovely!
The excelsior never disappoints. Great food and top service. Mauricio and co. are like a family, and we are the beneficiaries.
Been there twice. Loved it! Marcella is a true gem. Best memory I have ever had with a good server!
The calamari was dry and tasteless. The oysters were over cooked. The shrimp was average at best. Tiger prawns were tasty but served over a rather bland pasta. The service was excellent and the decor was awesome.
Great service and great food in cozy environment. We loved the dinner and experience and now want to stay at the inn.
Food was TOP SHELF!!!!
Out of this world!
We had grilled prawns with prosciutto and caprese , gnocchi, salmon and porketta!!
And dessert.. yummy!!
This place is top shelf.. a few suggestions to make this a perfect experience:
1. Please Warm the bread
2. Cover the lemons with gauze
3. The To go bags were cheap plastic and tacky
4. Warm hand towels would of been a treat for end of dinner
5. The kitchen should FEED the staff so they know how food taste and could explain it better
6. Staff was lovely but could of been more attentive
These tiny details would of made this a 10* experience!
It was truly an culinary delight!! Kudos to the chef and kitchen staff!!
Wonderful evening and a fantastic meal. Our server (Matthew) was great, very attentive and friendly. The food was very good. We had the lobster ravioli and game hen. Both were absolutely fantastic!!!!
Absolutely delicious food (I got the caprese salad and the lobster ravioli)! Fabulous service, very friendly staff. In an older building, lots of character (stained glass, etc.).
My wife and I in the past and now my family of four reserve the first night of our two night trips back to Eugene for a nice dinner at the Inn. The food, service, and ambiance has remained 5 star since I graduated from U of O in 1985.
This truly is a gem of a restaurant.
We've been there twice in the past 4 weeks. Wife's birthday and our 24th wedding anniversary. We love it there.
Totally enjoyable. The noise level was very low so made it possible to carry on a conversation. Our water was very attentive.
Enjoyed our second anniversary dinner at this fine dining spot. Everything and everyone did an outstanding job with the perfect amount of attention.
We love dining here. What a lovely place. The outdoor patio is awesome. On occasion they have music outside. Also they have wonderful wine dinners.
My Cod was cooking to perfection. The filet mignon was tender, wonderfully prepared. Wine was Delicious. We took dessert to go.
That was so ohh there were no words, just mmmm and yummmm
We will be back again.
Top of my list for one of the best restaurants in Eugene. Outstanding cuisine, staff, and wine list are reasons to spend a lovely evening at this charming restaurant. It's the place to bring out-of-town guests or good friends for an unforgettable meal. Wonderful selection of delicious menu items and excellent service. We've always had excellent meals at the Excelsior Inn and Restaurante and look forward to visiting again in the near future.
Great food, great service, a little high priced - I mean $15 per glass for house Chardonnay is a bit pricy. But the rest of the menu was priced as you would expect for a higher end restaurant. I would go back for special occasions but a bit too expensive for just a night out....
