This was my first visit to Excelsior and I would definitely go back! I took my parents to dinner here the day before Mother's Day so it was understandably busy.
Appetizers: beet salad, calamari, and lobster ravioli (actually an entree but we all wanted to try it). All appetizers were amazing and full of flavor - great to share between 3 people
Entrees: we ordered and the filet mignon with chocolate ravioli and it was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The meat was cooked perfectly and the chocolate ravioli completely surprised my mom and I (which isn't easy to do). We also go the lamb with couscous which I would highly recommend.
Desserts: Rhubarb/strawberry pastry, creme brulee, and berry cheesecake - all came recommended by the server and would definitely order them again... also - best cappuccino in town (I had two).
Overall, it was a really relaxing evening and the staff accommodated our request to sit outside even though I didn't request a specific table in advance and they had set up for the evening. Thank you for an unforgettable evening!
Linen tablecloths, candlesticks with real candles (not votives), excellent service and delicious food, spirits and wine...what more could one want?
Great dinners at Ristorante Italiano. Service was efficient. Food was delectable. Cocktails were over-the-moon fantastic, especially the Mescal drink with awesome chili liquor. Fabulous desserts. Can’t wait to return.
Anniversary lunch. Excellent food and experience... as always. Thank you !!
Food was far less than exciting, but it was good. Service and ambiance were excellent.
We have dined at the Excelsior for over 30 yrs. The quality of food and service only gets better with age. Recommend it highly.
Exquisite experience. Sarah our server was exceptional. Every bit of our appetizers and main courses were creatively and perfectly prepared. Deserts were the most diverse and most delicious we have ever experienced. Coconut cream pie was world class.
This was my first visit. Would have liked a menu with more selections, but what was offered was excellent. Definitely plan to return to try other menu items and explore the bistro.
Dinner was delicious. We were visiting our family in Eugene and walked by The Excelsior. We made reservations the next night and very glad we did. Will go there every trip to Eugene. There was 6 in our party and everyone ordered something different and everyone loved what they ordered. We also enjoyed that the wait staff took good care of us without constantly interrupting . Throughly enjoyable evening.
Simply amazing. Great food great service beautiful setting
Had a wonderful date night here. As transplants to Eugene it’s good to know that there is a spot like this in our midsts.
My family has dined at Excelsior Inn on numerous occasions in the past so we really looked forward to this visit. We were heading toward another 4 star review (incredible salads, entrees and dessert). Unfortunately, after reviewing our bill I came to the line ...Corkage $45! That is much higher than expected, higher than other restaurants in Eugene and Portland and rivals the fee at such fine restaurants as Le Cirque and Picasso in Las Vegas. While I consider the fee excessive and arrogant, and I understand Excelsior Inn’s right to charge whatever they like for the service. My biggest beef is that they do not have their staff trained to mention this inflated rate to patrons who prefer to bring their own, special bottles of wine to enjoy. Had I known I was going to be charged $45 for corkage we would have ordered several glasses of wine instead! Unfortunately this experience makes it extremely unlikely we will return.
We had heard about the Excelsior Ristorante for years and wanted to go there, so received a gift card for Christmas. The restaurant is beautiful. Parking was around the corner, half a block away. There was no valet parking when we went on a weeknight. I know if it's available at peak times. We were slightly disappointed at our dinners. While they were good and very attractively served, they were lacking in pizzazz when it comes to flavor. I ordered mushroom risotto, which had very little flavor of either mushrooms or parmesan cheese. It was good, but not as good as I had expected, given the restaurant's reputation. My husband ordered a steak, which he said was good, but no better than steaks he orders at our favorite watering hole, also a very upscale dining establishment, for less money. I'm glad we went to experience the ambience of the restaurant, which is really quite fabulous. But we were not all that impressed by the food.
caesar salad crisp leaves, good, dressing. powdered parm (neg) terrible croutons. crab soup terrible, lobster ravioli terrible too strong sauce. lobster over cooked. creme brûlée awesome. service excellent. atmosphere wonderful
The food was excellent and our waitstaff couldn't have been nicer and more efficient. We had a comfy table near the fireplace: perfect for brunch on a cold, rainy day.
The large party near us was a bit loud, but that is no fault of the restaurant. Other times we have been here, the noise level was much quieter.
Excelsior is a beautiful little place. The service is first rate as is the food. The food has subtle fine special flavors and pairings. The kind of food you think about as you eat it, just wonderful. Entering through the beautiful courtyard garden is such a lovely transition from the everyday world into a lovely dining experience. I have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed.
Best dining in Eugene Or. Option for beautiful dining room or more casual bistro dining. Authentic Italian food prepared meat and produce from local growers. Beautiful outdoor dining in summer. Great wine cellar. Extraordinary desserts.
Great food served in an elegant style. Excellent cocktails and wine list. Friendly and efficient service. Wonderful deserts. Has been our special spot for twenty years.
Great service and the ravioli was amazing. Thank you for a wonderful experience
Service was slow to start (10 minutes before a server came) but improved and was timely and appropriately attentive.
Food was only fair, lobster ravioli had great sauce but lobster had no flavor. Creamy gorgonzola dressing on salad was skimpy, and Blood orange cheesecake had no blood orange flavor beyound 2 small sections of blood orange on top. Previous experiences have been much better.
Took a friend here for their birthday and we were not disappointed. Gorgeous meal, great ambiance and excellent service. Only minor complaint was that it seemed a bit pricey for the very modest portion sizes. I understand that this is a gourmet/fine dining experience, but it's not too often I can finish an entire plate of food at any restaurant. I cleaned the salad, entree, and dessert plates, mind you. Would like to return sometime but probably only for another very special occasion.
We had a wonderful experience! The food was very good.
Charming restaurant - wooden plank floors, fireplace, vintage feel...had the filet with chocolate ravioli - curious about the ravioli and it did not disappoint, melted in my mouth, not a strong chocolate flavor, balanced with the cheese and pear, light cream sauce, meal portion reasonable.....highly recommend
Excelsior is outstanding. We were in town for an event and decided on Excelsior because the reviews were so good, and it didn't disappoint. Everything was great - my personal favorite dish was the roasted beet and carrot/fresh mozzarella salad - truly the best I've ever had. The pear tart is a fantastic dessert, though it was a hard choice because all of them looked wonderful. The owner came out and chatted with us for about 10 minutes, asking us about our favorite restaurants in Portland. That was a bonus - he's very personable. Would go here again, absolutely.
Can't do better. I've Been here 40 yrs. it's the same wonderful delicious place
Amazing food, great deserts, service was attentive and genuine, atmosphere elegant yet relaxed. Highly recommend this for any occasion and looking forward to returning.
Beautiful interior & atmosphere but limited menu. Dessert was over priced & stale. Good place for a drink at the bar maybe.
We arrived a bit early for our 7:30 reservation, and were seated without delay. We were seated at a very nice table for two, but it was a bit chilly in the restaurant. My date had to keep her jacket on during dinner. The server was very knowledgeable, and efficient. We ordered the mushroom risotto, and the short ribs with polenta.
Both dishes looked excellent, but frankly, the taste betrayed the look. Both entrees were a bit tasteless and unremarkable. On the mushroom risotto, the chef omitted the squash altogether. When brought to the waiters attention, she was apologetic and "comped" our first two beverages.
I was looking forward to having a nice place to take out-of-town visitors, since Eugene sorely lacks any true, cultured dining. I'm afraid I'll have to return for a "redeeming" meal before I'll take guests here.
Great meals near the U of O campus. A drink in the bar is worth the visit.
Best restaurant in Eugene. Great food and outstanding service.
A must stop place for a fine meal and impeccable service. We will return and soon.
Excelsior never disappoints! Great food and service. They always take care of my wife who is celiac (gluten allergy).
Slow service with poor quality of food
This restaurant is fantastic. The atmostphere is intimate and quiet. The service is excellent and the staff knows the selections well. But most of all, the food is outstanding.
Superb in all respects - food and very nice wine list. One of Eugene's best !
Cozy with wonderful food. I loved walking through the trellis at the entrance. It is rare to find a Restaurant that pays attention to detail. Thank you for being here.
I went to Excelsior for my birthday brunch. My family came and my Son treated us all. I wish I could say it was excellent. It was disappointing. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. There were only 2 other tables so that shouldn't have been the case. The server asked me after the meal was over, not during, if I wanted another drink. We asked for condiments for the brunch potatoes etc. She brought them when we had finished eating. What?!! The coffee was luke warm- the bacon was not crisp. need I say more?
Delicious birthday lunch with good friends. Very quiet because main dining room was full (and very loud) but adjacent dining area we were seated in was practically empty.😃
