We totally enjoyed our delicious dinners at Ristorante Gioia on Mother's Day. Each meal ordered was different, cooked to order, and all were served piping hot at the same time. Our waitress was very cheerful and efficient. It was a very relaxing atmosphere complemented by soft background music, allowing easy conversation among our party of 5. We definitely will return.
We went here for my son's 14th birthday because he wanted veal. The restaurant has a large selection of veal, pasta and fish. We all enjoyed our meals. This restaurant is a more traditional "old school" italian menu that everyone liked. My only complaint is that they could have a better selection of wines by the glass.
We booked through OpenTable a few hours before we arrived but they had no record of our reservation and no available tables so they seated us at some small bistro sets they have near the front door. They seemed short-handed with servers as there were only 2 and the restaurant was fully booked. They did the best they could and we weren't kept waiting too long. The bread was underbaked and raw in the middle. We pointed it out, they brought a fresh loaf over and it too was raw in the middle - not a good sign. The food itself - pesto gnocchi and lasagna - were not any better than we could have made at home. Dessert (Chocolate Mousse Cake) was good and wine list was good too, but there are better options in the area. We will not be returning.
Asked for a "romantic" table and a simple birthday treat! All was done very nicely. The owner, Vito, very pleasant and inviting.
Went on an off night and were the only ones there. The service was terrific, the menu was great and our selections were wonderful. The super cheesy garlic bread was delis. We had the gnocchi pesto and eggplant pram...both really good, piping hot with plenty to take home. Nice wine selection too. Will go back!
Lobster ravioli was awsome. Near everything in town. We would go back.
Open table said this place had availability, after making a reservation I was called by the restaurant to be told they do reservation on their own website and that they were totally booked.
Clearly a breakdown in communication and agreement between open table and this restaurant .
And then to get a follow up survey from open table asking about my experience. Well if you must know it stunk!
Tuesday night anniversary - great spot.
One of our favorites. The owner cooks every meal to order, which is a rarity these days. You may have to wait a bit for your food if it's a busy night, but it's definitely worth every second!
Based on the other reviews, we expected decent food. It was so average, we wouldn't go back, wouldn't recommend it, but the waitress was very efficient and it's a great location. Too bad.
This was my second visit to this restaurant and my pasta and shrimp dish in a vodka sauce was outstanding!!! Reasonably priced and an excellent meal!
Very nice find in Salem walking distance from downtown and the waterfront. Ample portions, excellent food and plenty of vegetarian options on the menu.
We found this restaurant by accident, and happy that we did. The menu is extensive, the service was attentive without overbearing,
and the dining room reminded me of a bistro in Italy. The minestrone soup was hot and filled with lots of vegetables. I had a
veal/eggplant dish which was generous in portion and very tasty. Definitely will return, and highly recommend this North Shore
Not as great as we had anticipated!
I've walked by the place often and we finally went in. The service was the best we have had in a long time anywhere, and the server was well informed and guided us in a pleasant dining experience. he was attentive yet not distracting. We each had a veal dish and it was the most tender veal we have ever eaten, and we've eaten out a lot. We started with the Caprese Salad and it was so fresh and crisp, it was delectable. Even his wine selection was spot on. We will return with an appetite, I cant wait to try dessert!
