Who is Marcello

Both a chef and wine sommelier, Marcello was trained in the culinary arts in his home country of Italy. His talent for creating exceptional meals and matching them to superb wines has allowed him to work in great restaurants in Italy, England and the US. He moved to Washington State in 2006 to share his love for food in the great Pacific Northwest.

Marcello found his love for food at a very young age. Some of his fondest childhood memories include his mother, Nicolina Doria in the kitchen, teaching him how to cook and sparking his love for this art. She always told him that the Italian way of living is defined by a love of good food, a passionate devotion to flavor and a vibrant lifestyle. He has named this establishment “Doria” in honor to his mother whom planted the seeds to his lifelong devotion to cooking.

Our goal is to share with friends and family that eating is for enjoyment, health and good living.

We read great reviews about this place and decided to try it out. We love Italian food and know it is very hard to find a good Italian restaurant in Seattle, unlike NY. Well... this one was "Italian wanna be" again. The food is not italian and the taste was very deceiving. I'm very sorry to write a review like this, I don't like being negative, but we paid top cost for something that tasted like microwave TV dinner food. I don't know if the previous reviews were from a previously owned restaurant or if the cook has left, but this place really needs some help with the quality of their food or try something else if Italian is not their specialty.

I had made reservations for 2, but when we got there, we stood in the cramped entryway for 5 minutes(!) before someone noticed us and decided to come seat us (and there were many open and clean tables). The ambiance was above average, and there was a live piano player, which was kind of nice. The food was also good, although at $17 per plate, was probably on the pricier side for a moderate Italian restaurant away from downtown. Aside from being ignored for 5 minutes after we came in, the service was also a bit sub-standard. Our waiter gave a courtesy check on us shortly after the food arrived, and gave us a water bottle for the table for us to refill our waters, but never came around again until we finished. In the meantime, when the water bottle ran out out, he never came back to replace or refill it, which makes eating hot Italian food problematic. Overall, not an entirely wasted dinner, as the food was good. That said, the food itself probably wasn't worth the price to visit again, and the service was lacking and simply not competitive with other restaurants.

Had the pre-fix family style menu for $28.50 and shared approximately 9 items. This was plenty of food and all excellent. I highly recommend.

Quaint neighborhood restaurant with great authentic Italian food. Good service. Only downside is no dedicated parking. Parking on street a bit of a challenge.

This restaurant has excellent Italian food. The waitress couldn't have been nicer, and the ambiance had a warm Italian feel.

My spouse and I were looking for a cozy, romantic place for dinner that we could walk to from our hotel which is located in the University district. We did not want to go to a loud, fast-food place or a bar on this night. This place was a good fit. We gave three stars vs four for a couple reasons: the cushions on the "pews" were pretty old and tattered, the food was really good, but not great, and service was a bit slow and price was a tiny bit high for pasta...but, all in all we would go back if in the area. Also fun to have a piano player/singer.

Good service is very important. Quality of the food was very good. I will be back when I'm next in town, as the service is so good.
