The Braised short ribs were the bomb! The salads were also very good as was our waiter. They always reserve the window seat for us. That table there gives us more room for the four of us. I highly recommend Ristorante Don Giovani!!! ENJOY!
This is one of our favorite places to go! Have been many, many times, and they always make us feel at home.
The food is great, The service is great ! My family and I enjoy our selves every time that we come here.
Great Food and Great Service.I lost my phone and they didnt steal it like most place so thats great.
I have taken co-workers here twice to celebrate our accomplishments. Each time the service and food have been great. We seldom get downtime so it is really appreciated that although the service is attentive but we are never rushed. Also I love that they have a good vegetarian selection which is important. Don Giovanni has become one of my go-to places for these occasions.
Usually start out with calamari and bruschetta with some nice bottles of wine. Main courses are a free fall but we have never been disappointed! Servings are generous.
This was my first time to DG so I don't have much to base a review on except this one meal. Our appetizer, a polenta dish, was excellent. The capellini dish I had was just okay. The flavor was very good but the pasta was overcooked and stuck together and it was hard to get out of the dish. The ambience was very nice, service was excellent and a friend had a drink that she enjoyed. It wasn't a stellar first experience food wise but I would go back and give them another try.
Solid Italian restaurant in Mtn. View. The room is quite large, so it's good for big parties or last minute reservations. Quality Italian food, and friendly and helpful servers.
I was there for lunch during the week for a business meeting. The food was delicious and service was great and prompt. I'd highly recommend and wouldn't hesitate to go there again.
We came with friends and had a quiet table, excellent service and delicious food. It was a perfect evening!
Very tasty, quality food. Good portions. Excellent service and restaurant has nice ambience.
The food was amazing...but my martini just ok..not chilled/lukewarm. Also had a really good Chardonnay recommended by our served.
Overall a solid Italian restaurant. Had the rock shrimp and scallops fettuccine at lich hour. Pasta was cooked perfectly, the cream sauce had a nice thick consistency but needed a bit more seasoning. The rest of my party enjoyed their dishes and the service was good which was why they didn't get a 3 star rating.
We waited at the hostess station before she acknowledged us even though she was right there. Finally I repeated my name and said I’d like to be seated. Once we were seated there were no more problems
Food was great. Service was outstanding. We got a table for 9 at the last minute. Will definitely go back.
This Restaurant is as good as it gets, we have been to this restaurant many times and I have meant to write a review. I had the Linguine and Clams in a tomato sauce it is my go to. The sauce is as good as any I have ever had I lived in Europe and NYC and have eaten at many Italian restaurants and this sauce is Legit! My partner has the Ravioli in Lemon Cream sauce and it was to die for. To start we had 2 Caesar Salads and they are really large, we could have split ours and it would have been enough, great wine list and the service is above and beyond, the Bar is also a good place to have lunch and people watch. Not many better than Bistro Don Giovanni.
Excellent dinners: pasta, seafood, Osso Bucco.
This is one of the classic restaurants still operating to their own excellent standards. Their veal saltimbuca is exceptional. They are friendly and personable, and they make you feel like you are in a comfortable place with family friends. The wine list is varied and reasonable - I don't know Italian wines very well, so I trusted that their menu choices would be excellent, and I was not disappointed. I hope this restaurant remains healthy and consistent for years to come, because it is one of my favorites.
As usual it was very good. Food was good and service was great. We’ll be back.
Great flavor on the chicken parmesan! Bread was soft!
We love this restaurant as I believe they serve one of the best bolognese sauces I have ever had. Their other food is excellent as well and the service is beyond reproach. The waiters are knowledgeable and make good suggestions for pairing wines, etc.
The food was quite good--but not inspired in terms of creativity.
The service was terrible.
We had reservations--table was not ready. most importantly our waiter was diffedent, inattentive.
Dirty Dishes were left on table for long periods of time as courses were delivered.
Support staff for clearing,
filling water glasses etc were almost totally absent.
We had no sense that anyone was in charge, or paying attention. An alienating experience.
Food doesn’t taste good. it’s not worth for the price
Showed up on time for my reservation. The place was a madhouse. Took 10 minutes to talk to the hostess, who couldn't find her appointment book. My friend sat at the bar during that time and even though several waiters came to pour drinks, not once was she even acknowledged. We ended up leaving and going home to eat.
Valentine's Day was much busier than a typical night and there was no indication that a limited menu would be used prior to arrival at the restaurant. Still the staff did a great job of serving and keeping things moving.
We arrived to a line out the door, and waited ~20 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. This wouldn’t be a huge deal normally, but we were packed into a corner inside where a clearly drowning hostess literally yelled out, “there’s too many people here!” as she frantically attempted to seat a clearly overbooked house.
After being seated through the chaos, our server rushed us through the ordering process. The food was mediocre at best. The night was capped off (again, after feeling rushed through the dinner service itself) by having to wait 30 minutes for the server to provide us with the bill.
I recognize this was a busy night (V day), but the service was really bad. We will not be returning.
The biggest problem was that were not seated till about 10 minutes after our reservation. The hostess was forced into a disorganized situation. They seemed unprepared for Valentine's day demand.
We have come to Don Giovanni for many years. All reviews have been 4-5 stars. We did not eat this time. For Valentine’s Day there was a special menu. We were looking forward to the Chilean Sea bass and the lobster Ravioli topped with crab on the special menu. My son sadly has food allergies so we always get him plain pasta with just butter. Seems easy enough. Apparently not. We could not order it. No kids menu and can only order from the special menu, no exceptions. It’s my son’s favorite restaurant. He sees it as a special treat and was so sad and on the verge of tears. We could not stay and have him sit with no food, so we left. There were no indication when I was making the reservation that there was even a preset menu. If I knew I would’ve gladly just come another day. I would caution that Valentine’s Day at Don Giovanni’s is really only catered to adults. Maybe that’s the intent to keep the kids home.
The service and the food was excellent, nice and clean
Solidly good restaurant where we have eaten a few times. Food and wine were first class. We were there before the theatre performance and service was prompt enough that we had plenty of time before the 8PM performance.
Excellent old world Italian food, ambiance and service at reasonable prices. If you are tired of all the new age fusion restaurants then Don Giovanni is a refreshing change of pace. Really enjoyed our experience and will definitely be back.
Excellent food and great service.
Terrible parking, but that’s not a problem of the restaurant.
We went there on a Saturday evening. It was less crowded. Food was really good.
My favorite Italian restaurant
Solid meal. Good food. Good service. Good room for a business discussion - not too loud.
Homemade flavors, great risotto (mushroom or seafood) and a friendly staff. A nice location on Castro Street in Mt. View, good for a post meal walk.
Good potential in the food, with a little more effort. Really enjoyed my pasta and the waiter. But I was given a filthy menu (why do restaurants not clean their menus?) and was disappointed in the wines by the glass for an Italian place in the Bay Area. Also, I ordered the crab cakes and although the flavor was good, there was almost zero crab in them! This could be a very good place with a little more effort and attention to detail.
As I was with my elderly parents, we were seated in an area of the restaurant that was a little quieter the other sections, which was appreciated. Table service was pretty slow and the food was very good, but not particularly great.
Great service and good food. Just wish the linguini was a little hotter and the clams were cooked just a bit longer. Tiramisu was delicious!
One of my favorite places in Mountain View, the food always has items that are to my taste (and excellent!), I usually go when I need some downtime and privacy, as I like the booth setting. The service is impeccable, and the servers know how to respect your privacy and time - they would never rush you out the door just because you finished your meal, so you can really enjoy a cup of coffee and a candle - I find that rare, and very precious. The owner is very courteous.
Always excellent and enjoyable! Great for all ages of our family.
