We have enjoyed Don Giovanni and it's our "go to" restaurant before going to the theater. However our latest meal wasn't up to par. The main course was terrific! (Sea bass) The chocolate mousse dessert was so sweet it was inedible. The cherry gelato was really cherry ice cream. Soup spoons were served as dessert and coffee spoons. Our waiter was incredibly distracted. And a beggar with her child came table to table begging, reaching the back of the restaurant before being shown out. It was a tarnished meal. All that said, our past experiences have been really good, and the food has usually been outstanding. We'll try again.
food and everything there is superb; John Akkaya has THE best restaurant in Mountain View, in my estimation...just a warm great place with great food and service.
Attentive service, menu with variety of choices, entrees well prepared and arrived hot at our table. Our server made our birthday celebration special with a candle in the dessert and a Happy Birthday serenade!
The food is always outstanding
This place never disappoints. For a date, business dinner, family gathering or every day meal, this is the best Italian place around
This was our first experience dining at Ristorante Don Giovanni and we had a delicious meal of fresh halibut and pasta with salmon. The wine was moderately priced and delicious. The only downsides were that the wait staff seemed to be rushing us through our meal (perhaps we should have said we wanted to enjoy a leisurely time) and the noise level steadily escalated until it was difficult to hear one another.
The food is consistently well done and the staff is very accommodating.
Great Italian food with both pastas and primi , and of course dessert too.
One of my favorite restaurants! My husband and I starting going to Ristorante Don Giovanni - Mountain View 17 years ago - on our first date! We go at least once a month. The food is wonderful - get the meat lasagna if they have it (only available as a special). The best I've had!! The staff is great, very attentive without hovering.
Never been disappointed. Great food, friendly staff despite the busyness. Totally recommend
Dishes are small, especially for the relatively high price. Few shrimps in a pasta. Soup felt a bit water down. Sofa seating not comfortable... too low to the table. Probably too old so sink in when seated
The service and quality of the food surpassed our expectations! 8 of sat at a large round table in the back and it was perfect for our celebration. We could all easily converse across the table.
The service was great. It was a Thursday night so that could be the reason, but it was the day after Valentine's day. My wife had the salmon special and I had the lasagna special. The salmon was ok, but the pasta it came with was delicious. Fresh and tasted homemade. The lasagna was good not great, but I enjoyed it. The bread was fresh and the waiter was attentive when we wanted more and brought put a different type of bread. All in all, we will return and hope for another experience like this one.
Nice Ambience and good food. Not crowded for Valentine's Day dinner. Service was a little slow, possibly die to some confusion on who was supposed to wait our table.
Very good food and service, my friends was so happy to have dinner there, they like the time they gave us to decide to eat and they answer our questions good.
Excellent restaurant for a business meal. You could talk amongst the group without raising your voice. The service was fantastic and the food was excellent!
Overall the food is very good. We were both disappointed however in that we felt very rushed and had to practically hold on to our plates otherwise someone would take them away. They were a little bit too pushy to get us out of the restaurant.
Very good, authentic Italian food in an appropriate ambiance.
all delicious. definitely a good spot pre-theatre.
Two of the dishes we ordered, eggplant Parmesan and polenta, were both heavy on garlic. The salad was fine and the cappuccinos were excellent.
I did have to request several times that the hostess check in our Open Table reservation as she was reluctant to do so. She said the Restaurant policy was not to do this unless the customer requested it.
I have not encountered this policy at other restaurants.
really good food and service, I'll sure come back soon
Very accommodating service, I asked for a different sauce on my Chicken Parmigiana rather than the cream sauce. I was told it would not be a problem and really enjoyed the dish.
Pleasant evening for two couples. Food and service were fine. Restaurant has been reliably good over past years.
The food was outstanding. Four of had sole, mahi mahi, veal, and ribs. Each of us found the food outstanding. Pleasant service
Food was excellent as was service.
Always enjoy the food, just wish the see red were polite.
Food was good not great. Overall, we thought the prices were too high for the quality.
I enjoyed the service that we got. I thought the food was very good and the price was very reasonable. The atmosphere was very nice as well.
Don Giovanni is one of my husband and I's key date night locations! It had some solid food and a great bar. Right on Castro street, it's not too bad to find parking or just walk to it from where we live!
First, the wine list is great! Lots of chianti choices from Italy as well as lots of California wines, which all pair well with food.
As for food, here are our recommendations/thoughts:
-Bread!: When it's fresh, it's SO GOOD. It comes with balsamic and olive oil, lightly spiced with garlic and pepper. But sometimes, the bread can be stale and
*Calamari! Never overcooked, seasoned well. I wish it had other sauce choices besides cocktail sauce, but I'd love to have some kind of spicy mayo or tartar sauce too.
*Caesar's salad: Solidly done, but it's still just a salad so it's not that exciting
Literally ALL OF THE PASTAS are amazing. All of the sauces are well balanced and delicious, the pastas are always perfectly cooked, and the proteins are yummy! I really love the michaelangelo pasta and the frutti di mare dishes.
- Secondi: Some of these dishes are the same as the pasta, but no pasta lol. So they're pretty good.
* Chicken Parmesan: My husband's favorite. They lightly fry it so that the breading is crispy, then finished in the oven. It comes on a bed of linguine and it's just perfection.
* Pollo ai Capperi: This is what I got last time and it was the perfect amount of food, and the perfect balance of each portion! The vegetables were cooked nicely, the mashed potatoes were delicious, and the chicken was still moist and tender.
My one nit with this place is that the service can be spotty, especially if they're busy. It can be hard to wave a waiter down and get a refill on water, but they try to come by as often as possible and make sure you're doing okay.
We went to dinner for New Years Eve. We liked the broad choices on the menu and the number of available wines.
Great staff and service! We went for a family dinner on Christmas Day - they were packed, but were juggling everything beautifully. Good vegetarian choices and wine list. We enjoyed the gnocchi, eggplant parmesan and penne pesto and everything was delicious including the cannoli! We will definitely go back!
As usual, this restaurant was overbooked and the service was TERRIBLE. We waited and waited in a sea of people and no one seemed to care. Waiting at the bar for our table, we could not even get a drink. Guess they just assume they are forgiven because it was Christmas. I'm done with these people
Had family Christmas dinner here. Food is tasty, portions could be larger but are okay. Prices are affordable for a family dinner or a couple. Nice ambiance but noise level WAY too loud; we were practically shouting to hear one another.
Basically a good experience.
Four of us went for Christmas, got seated right away. Food was great. Good time had by us.
We have been to Don Giovanni twice in the last 6 weeks, once on a Saturday for lunch with a group of 12 and once on a Friday night for Dinner with a group of 5. Both times our experience was wonderful, the service was exceptional, they were very attentive and diligent, fun and helpful. The food was also exceptional, served in a timely manner, salads were very fresh and pasta/entree dishes were served steaming hot and obviously very fresh. We found the prices very reasonable especially for the portion sizes and quality. Would highly recommend Don Giovanni's to all!
This is my favorite go-to restaurant for special occasions. Never disappointed.
Never been to this restaurant but saw all the positive reviews. Portion size is good, waiter was friendly, food was good, and wine good. I wouldn't go ga-ga over the restaurant but I do give it a thumbs up.
Don G. (as well as it's sister restaurant, Cafe Figaro in Burlingame) is a wonderful Italian restaurant. Food is always wonderful -- not just some dishes as happens in many restaurants. Service is always good and owner (or son) is on site and actively involved in the proper running of the restaurant and the consistent quality of the food.
The restaurant is a pleasant walk from the Center for the Performing Arts. We had a group of seven people. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and the service was excellent. Will definitely go there again.
