This is not your typical "Italian" restaurant. They have dishes from Northern Italy, Southern Italy (like spaghetti & meatballs), and French dishes like duck and rack of lamb. I had a pasta dish with pieces of wild boar in a bolognese sauce. Pasta was very fresh. A bit on the pricey side, but interesting different dishes, excellent service.
I have always wanted to try this place but never had the chance. We were in town for a concert and realized that it was restaurant week and they were on the list so we used that as our first time dining at Ristorante Divino. The service was immpecable. The food delicious and plentiful. Would go back here again and again
We have eaten here for years. The last two times we have gone the food has not been good and it has been very loud. Years ago this was the best in town. They had tablecloths with the best service and food. It has been going down over the last 3 years. No tablecloths and much more casual. Even though the down grade of atmosphere the prices have stayed the same. I had the swordfish and it was way over cooked and very salty. The size was so small it was about three bytes and gone. My wife ordered scallops and they were awful. They were burnt on the bottom. She only ate two of the five. As stated I have been a long term customer but have now had my final visit. Such a shame
Second time there when visiting our daughter for parent weekend. From Chicago, we have high standards for Italian food and Divino is equal with some of the best Italian restaurants in Chicago. Excellent Caorese salad and venison carpaccio for appetizers, fabulous papardelle with boar bolongese and other pasta dishes for entrees. Great server in Phillip as well. We shall return regularly.
I was expecting so much more from this place... It sounded great but the service was bad, he would disappear and we wouldn't see him again. We had to flag him down to get another cocktail or wine. The drinks made by the bartender weren't great. I ordered the gnocchi and was SO excited for it, it came out with 10 noodles. This place just fell way short of what I expected based on the reviews. I am not sure if the place has undergone management/chef changes but there are definitely much better places in Columbia.
It was the first time for us my wife and I for a little date night dinner. The food was very well prepared and the service was excellent but the atmosphere was a little bit noisy for our liking for that type of restaurant but overall it was very nice. I have already recommended this restaurant to a couple of friends
The food was very good -- not really excellent but no real complaints. Service was friendly but slow and orders were messed up making it a long dining experience. given the amount of great restuarants in the area i dont think i would go back. there's nothing bad with the place but its not a stand out.
Enjoyed a tasty meal with business associates. The seasonal salad was crisp and fresh. A very good pallet primer. The ciopinno was equally delectable. A good balance of pasta, proteins and seasoning. The tiramisu was a decadent meal closer. However; none of these offerings would have made the dining experience memorable without the fine service provided by Jessa. She was very accommodating, pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu. She spent the correct amount of time at the table to provide connection from beginning to end without presenting herself as overbearing. I will request her serving area on my next visit.
My wife, daughter and I ate there when taking our daughter for move-in for her freshman year at USC. We shared a salad and my wife and daughter had the gnocchi-very light, while I had a pasta special--absolutely delicious. We are foodies from Chicago and the food was as good as Italian places in Chicago. Reasonably priced wine as well. Friendly service. We shall return in the near future.
Great meal and experience! I tend to forget about this classic local gem. Michelle gave us fantastic service, and we had a special treat of the owner and head chef, Henry, coming by for a chat to check in on us. We enjoyed a few of the special appetizers and the bolognese that we couldn't finish was just as good the next day. Go and enjoy!
My wife and I came here and we were both thoroughly impressed. It started with the great service as the host welcomed us and got us to our seats immediately. The waiter was always on top of his game answering ever simple question my wife and me had and getting our food and drinks in a timely manner. The food was fantastic. The appetizer was delicious. We had a meat and cheese platter which by the way the meats and cheeses change daily. Our entrees were equally as good. I had the fileto de Bue which was made to perfection and the meat essentially melted in my mouth. My wife loved the Maltagliati which had fresh hand torn pasta. As I said previously we loved our romantic dinner there and would definitely come back.
Excellent! We started with the calamari and sea scallops. Both were cooked perfectly, not overdone, and seasoned well. I had the gnocchi in pomodoro sauce and it was possibly the best entree I've ever eaten in Columbia. Definitely the best red sauce I've had in SC. Bartender made a great French 75 and they had a nice wine list.
My wife and I enjoyed a nice dinner here for a date night over the weekend. The service, albeit a little unorganized, was very attentive and polite. Like most restaurants in the vista the dining room was small and cozy but had a tendency to be a bit noisy. The food and wine was by far the shining star of the evening. We started with a watermelon and crab caprese followed by a pappardelle bolognese for myself and speghetti with meatballs for my wife. The recommended Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa paired very well and we each finished the evening with a cappuccino. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we look forward to returning. I would recommend dining here for anything from an impromptu date night to a wedding anniversary, just make reservations and use the valet. It's complimentary and makes getting in and out much easier.
This was our first time dining here. We went for a spur of the moment date night on a Friday night. I was able to reserve our table online the day of (which is very handy) and they have complimentary valet parking, which is also very handy considering it's location on Gervais. We were greeted by one of the friendliest and most accommodating host and were given the choice of a booth or a table. The staff were friendly, informative and very attentive. Our waiter, Conner, was wonderful in helping us select delicious entrees and had perfect timing at our table. The wine selection was wonderful, and the portion to price was also surprisingly fantastic. We left full, happy, and well served. I highly recommend!
My husband's rack of lamb was wonderful, and this is one of the few places in Columbia that serves lamb. And they serve it well. My shrimp scampi was not good. You can't serve shrimp that is not good and fresh to someone from SC. We know good fresh shrimp.
Also we waited a good 15 - 20 minutes before our waitress even acknowledged us, and then we waited more for water. I expect better from a white tablecloth restaurant that is expensive for Columbia.
