Ristorante Castello at Blue Bell Ratings and Reviews
We’re frequent diners at Castello’s sister restaurant, Panache, so we thought we’d try this for my husband’s birthday. We both enjoyed it very much and we’ll definitely return. It’s a BYOB which we didn’t know, but they have alcohol too so no worries there. Veal with crabmeat was exceptional. Tender and great tasting. We had the artichoke app which was superb. Kudos to Sam, our server, who we knew from Panache. Very friendly and accommodating.
Great food, very generous portions, and good service. Tables a little too close (I got tired of hearing about prostate cancer treatments). My real complaint was that the chef was not willing to make something special but relatively simple for me (my birthday) despite my stopping by the restaurant 4-5 hours early to describe what I wanted. Apparently, the chef felt that what I had requested was “beneath “ his creative side (melon wrapped in prosciutto was ok).
We like trying new places, and were pretty excited to get a gift card that could be used at either Pinache or Ristorante Castello for Christmas. We often have date nights in Blue Bell, and this was our first time visiting Castello. After the Eagles won this past Saturday, we decided to venture out for dinner as we had a night free of our children. I went online to make a reservation and saw there had been 9:15, 9:30, 9:45 & 10:00 options. We live 40 minutes away, so we chose the 9:45 slot to be safe, and arrived a little early. When we walked in the door, we were taken to our table immediately. Our server went over all of the specials in a manner that was less than inviting. Before we even picked up our menu, he asked if we'd like to get our order in from the specials because the cook would be leaving and he had to get the order in quickly. I asked if we could review the menu for a moment, and requested a wine list. Displeased, he brought the wine list and stood there waiting for my order. Without a glance, I just asked for a bottle of Cabernet, so I could breathe for a moment. While I was looking at the menu, he stood at the table, hovering with an impatience about him. I made a quick selection so as not to take a moment too long, and immediately regretted the rush. In my hurry, I did not order something I was very much interested in having. I feel as though these reservation times should not be made available if a guest is to be rushed in making a selection. This leads to uncomfortable, rushed dining. We were not the last table to leave, and did not feel very welcome. In my opinion, the food was par for a lower cost, casual dining experience. This may only be due to the cook ending his evening. While this experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I will give the benefit of suggesting that it may have been different if the reservation times were not made into the closing hour of the restaurant. Our experience at Castello's was good with the exception of the service. Our waiter Sam was excellent, however I rated the service as poor because Sam did not have any help. We were a party of 11 so either management did not care or did not plan accordingly.
The bread baskets sat empty and so did our water glasses. We sat for quite a while after dinner without anyone clearing the table. Sam noticed this and promptly cleared our plates himself so we could have coffee and dessert. A bus boy was around (with a less than cheerful attitude), and my husband observed him on his personal phone more than off. It never ceases to amaze me how management (non-existant) and other employees can stand around and watch a coworker struggle.
When a restaurant is priced like Castello's, you expect to receive service accordingly.
We’ve been to this restaurant many times where everything was great. However this time fish entrees were not that good with one being “fishy”.
That said, we will be back as we’ve had many good meals at this restaurant. Hopefully This was just a mid-week aberration.
Went for an early New Years Eve dinner. We had been there before and enjoyed it very much, so expected a similar experience. Was not aware of the special New Years Eve menu, as it was not posted on their website. When we made the reservation, the usual menu was available. I would have preferred the usual menu as they have excellent offerings with good portion sizes. Special NY Eve menu was basic, with surf and turf, veal, and simple seafood offerings. Included first and second courses, but these paled in comparison to their usual menu offerings. I thought the portions on the special menu were too small, overpriced, and choices too limited. While the food was ok, I won't return for special menu again. Instead, we will plan to return again when the usual menu is available. Service and atmosphere were very good and as welcoming and comfortable as always. We have recommended this restaurant to friends and family already. They also give good reviews of the menu and service on normal nights. BYOB for wine & champagne are added bonus, but they do have bar service as well.
Went there for New Year's Eve. Our reservation was for 4:30. We were seated immediately. After our order was taken for a very expensive fixed menu that was not advertised to my knowledge it took a total of 3 hours for us to have salad, cold pasta, and a cool entree and dessert. People at other tables came and went. We were a party of 10. Parties of 7 and 8 came after us and left before us. Not happy with our experience there at all.
Lots of specials offered and a full menu. It is still a byob for wine which we liked! The service was very slow for us on a friday night. Gnocchi is homemade and was delicious. Wish tbey had other options woth less seafood for appetizers. There were large parties in a very small space making it noisy. Overall food was good amd wait staff friendly.
My uncle and I share a birthday on Dec 26th. This year he is 90 years young and I am 19 years younger. Our long standing tradition of enjoying a meal together (usually Italian) continued this year at a lovely place in Blue Bell. Food, service and festive space all made for a wonderful celebration.
We arrived at 8PM in Christmas Eve. Our appetizers were served in due time. At 9.15 PM we were still waiting for our entrees. As we asked two times to be served without any result, we decided to cancel our order and quit. No apologies!
We think that we will never return to Castello or Panache twin restaurant.
The food was absolutely amazing, authentic Italian however, the atmosphere and our waiter were awful. Our waiter was extremely rude and for the amount of money we were spending he brought our dining experience down. The glasses were dirty with lipstick and there were fruit flies buzzing around the table. Also the restaurant refused to take our gift card claiming the machine was too old. I would go back for the food but never again for a special occasion
Took our parents here for lunch while back in Philly area for the holidays. Food was excellent. Service started slow as a very large party in the ballroom had everyone's attention. Once I found someone, we were treated excellently. Some of the best Italian food I have had outside of Italy.
Our waiter and server were delightful!! The food was delicious and steamy hot!! Lovely ambiance and the music was delightful in the background, we could hear ourselves talk. We didn't feel rushed and the waiter checked on us at appropriate time.
Recommended Castello to several friends and I will return.
This was our first visit to this restaurant. We were very happy with our meals and the service which was quite friendly and personal. I would look for a table further from the entrance next time because every time the door opened I got a chill.
We will definitely return soon!
Great meal and service. This Friday evening they had at least 10 specials, maybe more. They needed a print out of all the specials to go with the menu. It was tough to remember all of the details of the specials and it took the waiter about 5 minutes to recite all of them. You didn't want the waiter to have to repeat them. Also, they have a full bar but do allow you to BYOB wine. Great meal.
Party of four and most were very happy with their appetizers and entrées. A couple of us went for menu items, a couple for the specials. Overall, the meal was great until the last 20 minutes where we sat idling for our server, who was very busy, to finally give us our check. The orange roughy was very good and The veal with prosciutto was not as good. Appreciated the ability to take dinner pasta options and reduce the size for appetizers.Our guests were both fans of the lobster ravioli and the hazelnut ravioli specials. Desserts were outstanding however the concept of ice cream and whip cream seemed to throw someone for a loop.
