Ristorante Amoroma Ratings and Reviews
Dropped a kid at a birthday party in Moraga and had a 2hr window for dinner. Have been there 3x now, and happy each time. The Calamari appetizer is HUGE, and very tasty. I had the stew, which was also huge, and delicious as well. Took home 1/2 of the stew and it was great for lunch the next day. Its a little hard to find, but use the Theatre as your mark, and go 20 yards down the hill.
The live jazz music was excellent when we went this past Saturday. The food was yummy and the ambiance was comfortable. Would also be nice for alfresca dining when it warms up a bit more.
The only drawback is that they serve veal. Baby cows kept in crates not allowed to move so that the meat is nice an tender is just not cool. They had several veal dishes.
We had a great meal at Ristorante Amoroma:) My wife had the Ravioli and I had the Seafood Risotto Special, and we really enjoyed both entrees. We had the bruschetta appetizer and had two deserts;) the crème brulee and the cannoli's. They have a very extensive wine offering, however, we brought our own bottle and their was a $15 corkage. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.
They were short cook staff but neglected to mention that .. even a heads up would have helped. My soup was fine and came quickly but then we waited about 35 minutes for meals and my scallops were room temp at best. Noise levels were very high - they could use a little sound dampening. Staff was friendly but should have been more in tune with customer's waiting.
Would not have gone except we had a coupon. The best fritto misto we have had in a long time...large platter of lightly battered calamari with tentacles, large shrimps and pieces of fish. We then had their special pasta of the night, seafood linguine with lots of clams, mussels, shrimps and half a large lobster. Definitely going back again, even without a coupon!
The food was outstanding and super delicious. Excellent all around, except they nickle and dime you. I incorrectly assumed the soda had bottomless refills and ended up paying $12 for 4 glasses of Coke at $3 each. The server asked what type of salad I wanted with my main dish. I again incorrectly assumed the salad was included with my entree. It wasn't and I was charged extra. The salad was excellent, I was just surprised that it was extra when the bill came.
Food, though not spectacular, was well prepared and tasty. Service good. Parking for us with a mobility challenged person was easy but for others, regular parking might be a challenge since it's next to a theater. Main downsides: tables are small, fairly close together, and noise level made conversation a bit challenging.
They weren't quite ready for the Valentine's Day rush, so there were several groups of us waiting to be checked in. We were essentially checked in as we were seated which required us to keep track of who was first in line and resulted in a less than optimal experience on various levels. Let's just say that if you're 25 minutes late for your reservation at 7:15, you do not deserve to be seated ahead of those of us who showed up on time for our 7:30 reservation. But you know there's one of those kind of people in every crowd ... and there's a name for them too.
They could have given everyone a complimentary glass of Prosecco to help us pass the time that we had to stand around waiting. I think it would have gone a long way toward to making us feel better.
The food, as usual, was very good.
Granted, it was Valentine's day, but our reservation for 7p was honored at 8. They had no system or even clipboard reservation list. No one greeted anyone. Reservations were taken out of order. Service was competent but nothing special. Food was tasty, but not so notable to make me return or recommend. Waiter could have informed me that my single malt scotch was $33. Probably okay if you're a local on a quiet evening. Otherwise, pass.
We took our 10 yr old son for Valentine's Day. Had a 6:45 reservation and when we arrived there was a mob waiting for tables, some with reservations and many without. No one greeted us for 30 minutes so my husband went to hunt someone down. A nice man was trying to clean tables and sit people, names were not asked and only the time of our reservation. After 45 mins my son started to whine and get a headache from waiting so long and right then our table was ready and we were seated. We were a party of 3 very hungry and frustrated people! However, everything thereafter was totally wonderful! The service, ambience, wine list and especially the food! Everything was delicious. I think the big rush was due to the holiday and a small price to pay for such a great meal. This was our first time here and we will definitely go back! Our new favorite Italian spot!!!!
We experienced an unfortunate Valentine dinner at Amoroma. Arriving 10 minutes early for a 6:30p reservation we were sat at a table for 2 right by the front door, separated from the entry way by a 4 ft wall. I asked for a different table, but was told their were no others. People immediately began stacking up in this entry way, some people waiting 20-40 minutes for their tables. Amoroma made the mistake of overbooking or perhaps forgot to include the Open Table reservations? We were exposed to the cold air from people trying to cram into the restaurant. I stood up so that I was eye level with a couple waiting to enter who were holding the door open. I explained that they were letting in the cold air and asked very politely if they could move up and not hold open the door. The "gentleman" replied, "Don't you think we know it is cold, we are standing in it?" in a very hostile tone. I sat back down, stunned. Then I looked up at the man and said, "You know, that was not very nice." He retorted, "Well that is what you get for sitting at that table." Very nasty man. Since there were people standing above us for the hour we had the table it was impossible for us to have any kind of intimate conversation. This situation would not have happened if the waiting patrons had been ushered to the bar in the far room or if the resturant had not been over booked. We will not be returning to Amoroma.
In spite of an early reservation (6:30), the main restaurant was completely full. We were seated in the bar area and the maitre d treated us as if we didn't really have a reservation. The food was fine, though not outstanding. The service was very good. We'll definitely return as this is the only nice restaurant in Moraga. I do think they should have apologized for the lack of a table or given us a comp glass of wine.
I almost hate to say it because I don't want to jinx myself, but I have always been able to count on Amoroma to prepare an excellent meal ... especially the filetto. I tried the Capesanto appetizer (grilled scallops on vegetables) for the first time and I'll be ordering that again! My husband had the halibut which he said was delicious. The service is always friendly and relaxed and I really enjoy having this dining option in Moraga!
The noise level made it very difficult to converse with our table mates. In the past we've felt the food and service were of higher quality. This experience was a disappointment. I would ask to sit outside or in the adjacent bar space to reduce noise level. And hope the food and service return to former enjoyable levels.
We often enjoy a good meal at Amoroma and it is a great place to meet friends. It is local for me, the food is very good and the chef is happy to sub extra vegetables for carbs to satisfy this Paleo diner. Each member of our dinner party had different desires (vegetarian, meat loving and "anything Italian". We all left happy!
