RIS has never disappointed! Food is always excellent. Brussel sprouts are absolutely delicious.
Wonderful beef carpaccio, ample enough to be a main dish.

The food was great. I ordered the daily special, quiche and a salad and it was done perfectly. My colleagues enjoyed their steak frites and grilled salmon. The price was very reasonable. We sat in a booth and that turned out to be not that comfortable. The cushions were too soft and I sunk into them too much. I would not recommend a booth there to anyone, like me , that has occasional back pain.

This was by far one of the absolute best restaurants I have ever eaten at. The food was amazing. Service impeccable. Overall experience tremendous. Can’t say enough good things about everything.

Food was ok, service is sub-standard as waiters don't know how to serve. His can be recommended if you don't expect too much.

Food was delicious. Service was super slow. It was Valentines Day but wasn’t crazy busy. Waited over 20 minutes for dessert and then got the wrong one.

We went tonight for Valentine’s Day. It was our first visit to Ris and we are definitely coming back. We had the Crown of Cauliflower and the Portuguese seafood stew and OF COURSE the butterscotch pudding. Everything was delicious! And because it was VD, the waiter also gave us a rose to take home with macaroons and truffles in individual bags. That was a nice touch! Justin was our waiter and I think he was the best waiter we have ever had - engaging and personable but not hovering. Overall, such a pleasant and satisfying experience!!

We love Ris, our go-to place to eat. Like
Going home where someone can cook and the atmosphere is warm and friendly, starting with the servers.
Frankly I have recently had some disappointments: oats in the meatloaf which makes it tasteless and soggy. Why do I have to have chocolate in my soup and peanuts in the broccoli? Can’t I have the formally terrific Ris regular heavenly REAL food? Why all this mixing with outbof Place ingredients which I wish would go back to California or wherever they came from?
Where is the Ris we came to love? Still work there?

Menu was very limited. Liver and onions was the sam meat special as the date night special. I haven’t seen that on a menu in my life. There was no other beef selection. Service was great but everything took very long and the restaurant was empty. I wouldn’t return

I previously had an extremely bad experience at RIS that prompted a fairly terrible review from me . After a break of a year or two I started to slowly go back and try again and was pleased to discover a more consistent quality of food and service. I actually took some old college chums there the other night and everyone was extremely happy on all fronts . The lamb and seafood were standouts but it's RIS' expertise with the "pot pies" she cooks that has really won me over . I had chicken the other night and it was perfect for a cold windy winter night - the crust alone makes me want to go back again soon . Absolutely perfect . So I'm sorry I had to write a bad review a couple years back but I'm not too proud to give places a second chance and in the case of RIS I'm very happy I did .

Fabulous, fresh food at a reasonable price ... so hard to find in this city! My chicken was amazing and my boyfriend loved his steak frites. Bonus little bag of homemade cookies were such a treat when we got home. Server was just right, and made sure we finished our meal on time to make our Kennedy Center show. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for someplace special without going broke.

Had high expectations and had wanted to go there for some time. But, the experience fizzled quickly. Service was very inconsistent and slow, bordering on rude. Had to call waitress three times. It was lunch so we didn't have a lot of time; we ordered cocktails from menu - took over 30 minutes to arrive. they arrived after appetizers. And then it was spilled on table. Food was good, some things very good, but service was a hindrance to enjoyment. We had to send french fries back because they were tepid. A positive point: it was quiet though the room seems past its prime. With all the other great spots in DC, I won't do this one again...

Food was fabulous. Great kale salad and trout. Service was uneven. Our waiter was very good but those delivering food and taking care of clean up and new utensils not so much.

With dining options near and in the Kennedy Center spotty at best, we gave RIS a try and were better for it. A short walk from Foggy Bottom Metro, RIS starts off with an extensive gin collection and associated mixed drinks that tempted us to give it a try even though I hadn't drank gin in over 20 years. The soup (tomato) and salad (Kale and Brussels Sprout Salad) appetizers were excellent. The main courses were Chicken Milanese (very good) and Portuguese Seafood Stew (excellent...with a rich savory broth). I only wished for a third slice of bread to better soak up the extra broth. For dessert a shared chocolate-filled cream puff was the perfect finish to the meal. The first course was a little slow to arrive, but we arrived shortly after opening and we still made it back to the Kennedy Center with time to spare. Overall a good time.

This is the third lunch I have had at RIS and they never disappoint. The lunch was wonderful, we were able to make substitutions, without any problems, that accommodated our diets. The Tomato Soup was awesome. Our waiter was attentive and repectful, but not bothersome. The establishment is very bright and inviting.

Just two couples getting together. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It was Resturant Week, but you would be never know it. Menus was great. Best chicken dish I have had in a very long time. The waiter was excellent and the availability of parking at the Ritz was a positive.

I used to get stuck at the light next to this RIS an say I was going to eat there. They were featured on WETA check please and when a friend called we decided to eat there. We were not disappointed, even though we were interested n the date cake that wasn't on the menu that day. My starter salad was wonderful and my entree was fresh and imaginative while still being simple as well as delicious. Rice, perfectly grilled shrimp, cucumbers, red pepper was a great combination. My companion had the Nicoise with trout that she fully enjoyed. Choosing between a glass of wine or dessert was a nice choice as I am not always a sweet eater. I do plan to come back soon.

Restaurant Week 2018. I was pretty much fully ignored by my waiter, Khalid, the entire time I was there. It was a full 10 minutes before he even approached my table/greeted me. Food runners delivered each course and I had to flag someone down twice for water. As a single diner, I would have much preferred to have been seated at the bar where it seems I'd certainly be attended to and not have spent an hour and 20 minutes for a simple lunch.
As for the food, it was fantastic! Thai brussels sprouts may be misnamed, as there was no Thai flavor or spice involved. It was basically sprouts with bacon. But they were roasted well and tasted good! The cauliflower crown was an excellent entree -- pine nuts, pomegranate seeds, mint and yogurt, along with the spice blend made it an excellent exercise in flavor. The cream puff had the texture -- and taste! -- of cardboard. It was a total let down after that excellent entree.
As I was seated near the hostess stand -- and had virtually no interaction with my waiter or any other service folks, I observed the hostess, Danielle, in action. She was professional, attentive and pleasant to EVERYONE! Khalid needs lessons from her! He also needs a supply of breath mints.

Colleagues went for restaurant week. Food was great, as usual - innovative and delicious. However, the service was very lacking this time. We got there 12:15. 1:45, still no main course. No explanation to the end. No one coming by to apologize and explain. We were so frustrated anyway. I love the food, and would try again, but definitely not sure about the service.

Two of my friends joined me for lunch during Restaurant Week. For the appetizer I enjoyed a large bowl of delicious mussels in a herb-infused tomato broth with only a slice of heavily toasted garlic bread on the side; I would have liked either more bread or a spoon to be able to soak up the broth. For the main course starring their fish of the day, trout, I dined on a large filet cooked to perfection accompanied by poached baby potatoes and some veggies, with an aoili sauce available for additional flavor. For dessert, the apple pie ice cream included pieces of cooked apples combined with luscious ice cream for a memorable conclusion to the meal.

Service was slow paced, but we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We had intended to go to a free concert, but the meal was so slow we missed it despite giving ourselves over 1 and 1/2 hours to eat. Not a big deal though as there are lots of concerts and the food was excellent.
