Special events & promotions
RIS offers three beautiful private dining spaces for every occasion from business dinners to wedding rehearsals. The State Room is our smallest and most intimate dining room, seating a maximum of 10 guests. The Federal Room seats up to 35 guests, and comfortably accommodates up to 45 for a standing cocktail reception. The Main Dining Room accommodates 40 guests, and when coupled with the adjacent State Room, seats to 50 diners. We also have other options for group dining, including two banquettes that seat up to 16 guests. For more casual receptions, the Cafe area next to our bar is a great location for a standing cocktail reception. Contact Heather Small at to book your special event!

RIS has never disappointed! Food is always excellent. Brussel sprouts are absolutely delicious.
Wonderful beef carpaccio, ample enough to be a main dish.

The food was great. I ordered the daily special, quiche and a salad and it was done perfectly. My colleagues enjoyed their steak frites and grilled salmon.The price was very reasonable. We sat in a booth and that turned out to be not that comfortable. The cushions were too soft and I sunk into them too much. I would not recommend a booth there to anyone, like me , that has occasional back pain.

This was by far one of the absolute best restaurants I have ever eaten at. The food was amazing. Service impeccable. Overall experience tremendous. Can’t say enough good things about everything.

Food was delicious. Service was super slow. It was Valentines Day but wasn’t crazy busy. Waited over 20 minutes for dessert and then got the wrong one.

We went tonight for Valentine’s Day. It was our first visit to Ris and we are definitely coming back. We had the Crown of Cauliflower and the Portuguese seafood stew and OF COURSE the butterscotch pudding. Everything was delicious! And because it was VD, the waiter also gave us a rose to take home with macaroons and truffles in individual bags. That was a nice touch! Justin was our waiter and I think he was the best waiter we have ever had - engaging and personable but not hovering. Overall, such a pleasant and satisfying experience!!

We love Ris, our go-to place to eat. Like
Going home where someone can cook and the atmosphere is warm and friendly, starting with the servers.
Frankly I have recently had some disappointments: oats in the meatloaf which makes it tasteless and soggy. Why do I have to have chocolate in my soup and peanuts in the broccoli? Can’t I have the formally terrific Ris regular heavenly REAL food? Why all this mixing with outbof Place ingredients which I wish would go back to California or wherever they came from?
Where is the Ris we came to love? Still work there?

Menu was very limited. Liver and onions was the sam meat special as the date night special. I haven’t seen that on a menu in my life. There was no other beef selection. Service was great but everything took very long and the restaurant was empty. I wouldn’t return

I previously had an extremely bad experience at RIS that prompted a fairly terrible review from me . After a break of a year or two I started to slowly go back and try again and was pleased to discover a more consistent quality of food and service. I actually took some old college chums there the other night and everyone was extremely happy on all fronts . The lamb and seafood were standouts but it's RIS' expertise with the "pot pies" she cooks that has really won me over . I had chicken the other night and it was perfect for a cold windy winter night - the crust alone makes me want to go back again soon . Absolutely perfect . So I'm sorry I had to write a bad review a couple years back but I'm not too proud to give places a second chance and in the case of RIS I'm very happy I did .

Fabulous, fresh food at a reasonable price ... so hard to find in this city! My chicken was amazing and my boyfriend loved his steak frites. Bonus little bag of homemade cookies were such a treat when we got home. Server was just right, and made sure we finished our meal on time to make our Kennedy Center show. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for someplace special without going broke.

Had high expectations and had wanted to go there for some time. But, the experience fizzled quickly. Service was very inconsistent and slow, bordering on rude. Had to call waitress three times.It was lunch so we didn't have a lot of time; we ordered cocktails from menu - took over 30 minutes to arrive. they arrived after appetizers. And then it was spilled on table. Food was good, some things very good, but service was a hindrance to enjoyment. We had to send french fries back because they were tepid. A positive point: it was quiet though the room seems past its prime. With all the other great spots in DC, I won't do this one again...

With dining options near and in the Kennedy Center spotty at best, we gave RIS a try and were better for it. A short walk from Foggy Bottom Metro, RIS starts off with an extensive gin collection and associated mixed drinks that tempted us to give it a try even though I hadn't drank gin in over 20 years. The soup (tomato) and salad (Kale and Brussels Sprout Salad) appetizers were excellent. The main courses were Chicken Milanese (very good) and Portuguese Seafood Stew (excellent...with a rich savory broth). I only wished for a third slice of bread to better soak up the extra broth. For dessert a shared chocolate-filled cream puff was the perfect finish to the meal. The first course was a little slow to arrive, but we arrived shortly after opening and we still made it back to the Kennedy Center with time to spare. Overall a good time.

This is the third lunch I have had at RIS and they never disappoint. The lunch was wonderful, we were able to make substitutions, without any problems, that accommodated our diets. The Tomato Soup was awesome. Our waiter was attentive and repectful, but not bothersome. The establishment is very bright and inviting.
