I went here during restaurant week and it was completely booked. The server, Kareem, was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was fantastic. I will definitely return to RIS.
Two of my friends joined me for lunch during Restaurant Week. For the appetizer I enjoyed a large bowl of delicious mussels in a herb-infused tomato broth with only a slice of heavily toasted garlic bread on the side; I would have liked either more bread or a spoon to be able to soak up the broth. For the main course starring their fish of the day, trout, I dined on a large filet cooked to perfection accompanied by poached baby potatoes and some veggies, with an aoili sauce available for additional flavor. For dessert, the apple pie ice cream included pieces of cooked apples combined with luscious ice cream for a memorable conclusion to the meal.
Ris is always delicious - great menu and wonderful warm atmosphere. Service is usually smooth, I've been there many times -- something was going wrong on the floor the other night, but I will return.
Service was slow paced, but we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We had intended to go to a free concert, but the meal was so slow we missed it despite giving ourselves over 1 and 1/2 hours to eat. Not a big deal though as there are lots of concerts and the food was excellent.
Enticing - and delicious - Sunday brunch menu, with a wide range of selections from a prix fixe menu. Associated selected teas and coffees are available and well served - altho rather pricy.
We had a wonderful first visit to Ris. Our server Karim was excellent and suggested the pre-theatre menu to us, which was amazing food and good value. Everything we had was perfectly seasoned and tasted great. We enjoyed a gin and house-made flavoured tonic from the Gin Mill, which was a nice take on the standard G&T. The ambience was just right for us ... elegant but not at all stuffy.
Each visit to Ris is more wonderful than the last. We live in NYC but make a point of stopping in whenever we're in the area. This visit Ravi's gin menu was incredible and varied, Kareem was the perfect server, caring for each of us attentively and making sure we got what we wanted. Ris is a delightful host and inventive chef. Her French Onion Soup is such a fave we went back for a second bowl the next day before we left town! The hamburger (on the lunch menu) is truly the best I've ever had, and lamb roast (Thursday night special) was wonderful.
Ris has very good food for lunch and dinner. It is a low key setting where it's easy to talk business or talk with friends. The food is a classic menu but with good variety. there is a good wine list and a nice area to sit at the bar.
The chicken Milanese was great , the plate was balanced with flavours. It was simply delicious. it was rich but not heavy. It was refined rustic food at its best. It was to bad the desserts missed the mark for my taste
We liked Ris so much we went back again a few nights later. In fact, I liked the Portuguese fish stew so much I had it both nights. My husband would've had the scallops again, too, but that special been replaced by a beef filet. He loved them both. Our friends were equally as happy with their dishes, and the two sides we shared, cauliflower and brussels sprouts, were terrific. The ambiance (especially, but not only, if you have a booth) is perfect for an evening of conversation with good friends -- an elegant and quiet but not intimidating dining room, thoughtful but not obtrusive service. We'll definitely go back.
