Riptide by the Bay Ratings and Reviews
Amazing Maryland Crab Soup! Nice service. Quality of food good however did not care for the crab ravioli - did not seem homemade and flavor of crab potato mixture and cheese sauce off. Cheese sauce on top of ravioli, the worst - processed cheese is not what I would expect for $22 a dish.
Spent 55 mins to bring out the food. The portion of food was very small. Over charged price for restaurant week lunch menu.
$18 dollars for two mini crab beignets (1st course, little crab meat with corns) and bowl of seafood bisque (2nd course, with not much ingredients in it), I will never come back or recommend to my friends.
I tried this restaurant with my family on a whim because it had 2 features that I was looking for: it was near the waterfront and offered fresh seafood. It was an additional surprise that the day we ate dinner was the start of restaurant week. The 3 of us took advantage of the restaurant week offerings starting with the Southern Crab Beignets appetizer, then Lobster Ravioli for the entree, and finishing with the Key Lime Crumble for dessert. My mom ordered the same, while my dad went for the MD Softshell Crab for his entree.
All 3 of us were floored by the appetizer - the Southern Crab Beignets could easily be turned into a full dinner and you would not leave disappointed. The Softshell Crab was, again, exceptional. Their crabs are packed with flavor and in my dad's words, "It was the best I ever had." I would agree with that (even though I only tried a small bite). Moving on to the Lobster Ravioli, there was no "exceptional" flavor there. Our server did recommend it and it was still "good" however, you will feel as if the Lobster Ravioli did not meet the standard that the Crab set. Perhaps the lobster just did not have the same inherent flavor as the crab, or there was something missing from the sauce, or the ravioli was overcooked (there was a definite mushy, potato-like texture inside the ravioli, like a pirogi). One last note is the portion size - there were only about 5 average-sized raviolis on the plate, as if it were the size of an appetizer rather than a full entree. In contrast, the Softshell Crab dish was an appropriate size.
The Key Lime dessert was light and had a pretty good flavor. Perhaps due to the small entree size for me, I was unfortunately still hungry after dessert, which was the size of a small juice glass. There were clearly no leftovers at our table, so we went out to a nearby ice cream shop afterwards.
Overall we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, despite these small snags. If I judged the crab alone, I would rate it 5 stars.
This place is a joke. Seriously, the only people who eat here are those who can't get a table at Thames Oyster House. I order a dozen blue point oysters, muscles and Chilean sea bass. Well, oysters and muscles never came until they brought the sea bass. Sea bass was waaaaay over cooked and the muscles, if you can call them that, we small and nasty. No chance the oysters were blue points as they claimed. And the bartender serving us is in the wrong business. Terrible service, attention and all around experience.
We were on the prowl for some crabs! The crabs here were good...but much more expensive than LP Steamers, and it took a while for us to be served. We also got an appetizer of clams that was not a great value, and was supposed to come with bread that didn't arrive until we'd finished the whole thing. I'm unlikely to return.
We took our son there for his birthday - first timers. The table was ready as promised (the street parking was a little challenging) and the atmosphere was casual, but fun. We ordered drinks and a mussels appetizer. The mussels were very good and it was a decent-sized portion to share among 3 adults. I ordered the sea bass, which was moist and delicious. It was served with gnocchi and asparagus. Very filling and satisfying while being somewhat healthy, as it was in a broth. My husband had the soft-shell crabs, which were tasty, but it was his first time trying soft-shell crabs, so it was kind of a challenge for him. Our son had the pan-seared scallops over the lobster risotto. He really enjoyed it, but wasn't able to finish it as it's a large portion and he got full. Lucky for him that his parents were there to polish off the small amount he left over. Scallops were perfectly cooked and the risotto was rich and you could taste the lobster. We would be happy to go back another time.
This was my first time dining here and it was fabulous. Our waitress, Jessica was awesome; great service and very attentive. The food is top notch. I suggest the Griiled Atlantic Salmon and Lobster Ravioli. The scenery makes the dining experience worthwhile. My new favorite spot😊
Dinner was so-so. Great gnocchi sidedish but the swordfish was so tough it was hard to cut with a knife. Didn't eat it and waiter didn't ask why...because he was largely unavailable...nice but not attentive We waited for drinks...for a while. Total experience was eh!
I will not be returning to Riptide. It took us over a hour to get our meal which was 2 dz crabs, calamari, and chicken wings. And, we never received the chicken wings. Then we could not find the server for him to give us our check. While we were still eating, the restaurant staff was cleaning with strong chemicals, which is great, just not when I'm eating. We could also see the frustrations on other patrons as well. It was a disappointing night.
