Rio Grill Ratings and Reviews
I had the seafood special, barramundi fish. It was cooked perfect. Came with roasted potatoes and asparagus, which were nothing special but tasty. My friend had the skirt steak which was also cooked perfect with a hardy serving of wonderful vegetables. Both meals, especially the steak, we're very good portions.I recommend the ice cream sandwich for dessert. It was easily enough for 2 and delightful! Our service was excellent. Will definetly go back.
it's great for celebrity watching.. the artichoke appetizer was to die for.. the kitchen was able to serve the skirt steak that was off the menu. fabulous.. and the dessert..beautifully plated.
our waiter was the best.. it was a special meal.. and on valentines..
Another great meal at the Rio, our favorite place to eat when we are in the area. We arrived early for our reservation but were still able to sit right away. Cocktails, server, and food were all great. Its a fun and lively dining area, but not so loud that we couldn’t hear each other. Rare these days. We love playing with the crayons too!
We were there to celebrate a friend's birthday we are a group of walking ladies cancer survivors. Jan. 12, 2018. Our food was good and the service was outstanding one of the best service I've ever received! Everyone was so friendly, warm and very welcoming to us!!! We will be back.
Enjoyed the ambiance.
Very fun and creative. A bit too cold however. They could have turned the heat up a bit.
Food good. Flavor combinations perhaps a bit strange or off . Too many unusual flavors combined -not so good . Tacos and beans both had too many mideastern flavors that did not jive with a traditional Mexican or southwestern flavor. One different spice might have been okay but this had several that set it waaaay off from 'Mexican' flavors anticipated.
Perhaps just not a nice blend of flavors. Too much garlic.
The brisket sliders were tasty. Could have been a bit juicier. Meat a bit dry. Wines very good.
Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio - both nice.
Waters attentive and pleasant making the dining experience much nicer.
biggest issue that the restaurant was tooo cold.
The amount of food provided for the cost was conspicuously minimal. On the list of items for "bigger" kids on the kids' menu was a burger listed as 1/4 pound, for $8 - fair enough. What was delivered was a slider...the diameter of the burger was barely more than a Reese's peanut butter cup, and the burger must have weight about 2 oz. You just can't charge $8 for a basic burger that even a child can eat in 3 bites.
The adult meals were similarly poor values for the cost.
Always a great meal at Rio Grill. It’s been our go-to place when we are in the Monterey Bay Area for at least a few decades! We love the lively, warm and welcoming atmosphere, great artwork and Southwest theme, and reliably delicious food! We always recommend it to friends, family, and whoever asks.
We have been coming here since it opened and have always had a good meal and great service. This time was disappointing. They were very busy. Our favorite artichoke was not fully cooked. They redid it and better but not great They were nice and removed from bill. The skirt steak was delicious as well as the calamari and pork belly
I had a resy -- knew to do that from other visits. VERY busy! Our cool wait guy must have been over worked-- service was a bit slow. Food was great. My sis and I split a wedge salad and the shrimp pasta-- cook split it for us -- no charge! Friend had Chinese chicken salad- said it was good--looked great and large to me!!
What happened to the Rio Grill we knew and loved? We had not been to the Rio Grill in several years, and apparently they changed chefs (and bartenders) during that time. The menu is now Southwestern rather than California cuisine, so the much anticipated onion strings that we wanted to order were not available. Nor was one of the specials of the day...we ordered it around 7:00 p.m. and they had already run out. My Manhattan will go down in history as one of the worst I've ever been served (what happened to the Maraschino cherry) and the bread was mediocre. The amount of food in the courses is more than enough, but the quality of the food is not what it was several years ago. I had marked this restaurant as one of my favorites, but no longer...we won't be visiting the Rio Grill again.
Rio is the best, consistently excellent Restaurant in Carmel, and hasn’t changed in the 30 plus years I have lived here. Wait staff is well trained and knowledgeable about the menu and the specials. It is kid-friendly, can get noisy, but that’s part of the fun of the place. It is great for lunch or dinner and a locals’ favorite. Their warm sour dough bread and butter, which they automatically bring at lunch and dinner is the absolutely delicious. Tony, the owner, is philanthropic and community oriented, and although he owns three restaurants in the area, his presence, style and touch is always felt where you are eating there.
When we first got there, there was not a hostess there that we could see. We were there Saturday night. There was a server who seated us but she made us wait despite the fact we had reservations. She was very unfriendly. She had long dark hair and is middle aged. Made us feel like we were unwelcome. Our actual server was very nice and friendly. I ordered the New York cut steak and it was grissley. The only vegetable they served was chilies. LOTS of them. Filled up half the plate. Who could eat that!! Very disappointing meal.
