Best risotto I’ve ever had and other dishes were excellent, too. Only negative is the noise level is pretty high and inside seating was too close for Covid.
Always the best service in town. Food always exceeds expectations.
We have been dining at Rio Grill over the past 10years. Food is always consistent.
Grill artichoke and the calamari our favorite appetizers. The fresh fish is always outstanding with added pizzazz of flavors. Ribs are also our go to selection with a nice smoky flavor.
Service was prompt and friendly. Food was perfect. Highly recommend Artichoke and Smoked Chicken. Wines by the glass were fun and suited menu perfectly.
Disappointed that the restaurant stopped serving food at 8 PM. Despite appearances, Carmel is not a retirement community!
Always good food and prompt, professional service.
We appreciated your continued patronage David and look forward to providing you with the consistency you've come to expect at Rio Grill.
We were seated within minutes of our arrival. We were soon greeted warmly by Kat (Cat?). She made great suggestions for drinks and the meal. She made us feel so relaxed and we were laughing like old friends in no time. We had the Charred Romaine Heart and Basket of House-Made Herb-Truffle Bread with Maple-Chipotle Butter. The salad was so flavorful, and the bread was warm and tasty with the butter - don't skip the butter. I had the Atlantic Salmon and it was delicious! Kat said, "The Chipotle-Lime Vinaigrette with the salmon is everything to me", and she was correct (so good!). My husband had the Surf & Turf Special and had no regrets. We had the cheesecake and apple bread pudding for dessert, and they were a perfect ending for a perfect meal. We will definitely return to Rio Grill the next time were in Monterey.
Rio Grill continues to be one of our favorites. We had a party of 7 on a Friday evening. We had an outdoor reservation but they were able to move us inside because the outside as a little too cool and breezy. The group enjoyed shirt steaks, shrimp pasta and ribs. The service was a little slower than normal probably because of staffing shortages. Rio Grill is still one of the best stops on the Peninsula.
We are frequent diners at MontRio and know that the Rio Grill is owned by the same group. While MontRio is going through its renovation, we thought we would try the Rio Grill. It did not disappoint. We each tried something new and it was delicious! The wait staff was very friendly, and remained comfortably engaged. Treat yourself to this wonderful restaurant.
Thank you so much for visiting us since Montrio Bistro is currently being prepared for our fall reopening. We are glad our food and service lived up to our sister restaurant. We hope to see you again.
All good well prepared. Recommend pork belly and the potato skins appetizers. Service was excellent. (We had a 3-year old and needed prompt and intuitive service. We got it!). One of our favorite places in Carmel! Will definitely be back.
Thank you Jim! We appreciate the kind words and I'm glad we were able to meet your needs. I agree, the pork belly should not be missed. It melts in your mouth. I look forward to seeing you on your next visit.
This was our first time dining at this restaurant. I picked this place because it has good reviews. We requested outdoor seating as we had a small dog with us. The inside looked really nice and cosy. We were the only one outside so we felt very spacious and comfortable with heaters set up all around. Food was delicious with good prices. Our servers were wonderful and very patience with us as my puppy was acting like she was a tigress. Will come back next time when we are in the area.
Thank you for choosing to dine with us and for bringing a furry friend too. We appreciate the kind words and look forward to seeing you next time.
Excellent service and delicious food. I will always come back..
Thank you! Im glad you enjoyed dinning with us.
Never disappointed after all these years!
Thank you for your great review and for your continue patronage at Rio Grill. We really appreciate you Claude.
We just moved to Carmel and saw this place via exploring! Incredible! Loved everything about it!
Welcome to Carmel Kalendra! I appreciate you dinning with us and we're glad you had a good time. We look forward to your next visit.
The smoked chicken is consistently the best dish. Sorry they don’t provide the bread basket anymore except at a price. The deserts are at a
reduced size from the past.
First travel and higher end dining since Covid hit!
Loved the food. Good service as well. There was also a live musician outside which was a nice touch.
Thank you for the kind review. We're glad you enjoyed our live music on the weekend!
Artichoke had been burnt on outside and wasn’t nearly as good as one we’d had in the past.
This was the second time in 3 days that we ate at the RÌo Grill. We ate outside both nights. The servers were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The food, skirt steak and Chinese Chicken Salad, was delicious, and in the case of the steak prepared perfectly. We will definitely return the next time we visit Carmel.
Great menu, great staff, comfortable and pleasing atmosphere. Excellent spot for a couple, or a group.
Thank you for the wonderful review and recommendation for our future guest.
Family get together
Delicious. Were early diners, and service a little slow at first until we requested help.
I made a reservation and got in right on time. My group was especially interested in a racing driver meet and greet that was put on by the Rio Grill. We ended up not keeping our reservation and spending an hour with drivers that were in town for the IMSA race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Food and drinks were amazing. The drivers were inviting and approachable. It was awesome!
We are glad we were able to accommodate your needs and giving you the opportunity to meet professional racecar drivers. We pride ourselves on serving our community and providing our guest with great experiences at Rio Grill. Thank you.
Alexis is such a friendly hostess. As locals we appreciate that very much.
Great food, especially for vegetarians
Alexis is a gem here at Rio Grill and we appreciate her professionalism and warmth everyday, especially her closeness to our regulars and how she is able to make them feel at home here at Rio Grill. We appreciate the kind words. Thank you.
Can't wait till we get COVID under control and Rio Grill can return to its full menu and wine list.
Waiter never told us about specials. We over heard the same waiter tell people on the table next to us after we got our meals served.
Great food, service and atmosphere.
Thank you for the kind review. We are glad we were able to provide a great dinning experience at Rio Grill.
Easy to reserve online. Great environment. Good food. Service was surprisingly slow, but overall a great restaurant. We will be back!
Rio Grill is a great place to dine. Establishment has great energy, appetizers, entrees, and desserts were terrific, and Katherine (our waitress) demonstrated outstanding service.
We dined outdoors and although very comfortable (plenty of heaters) just be aware that there is a fair amount of noise from the busy parking lot and adjacent street. Food and drink took a while to arive, seemed like the kitchen and/or wait staff may have been overwhelmed. Table next to us waited more than 45 minutes just for their cocktails. My husband enjoyed his skirt steak, but my pasta was overcooked and although the salad was tasty, it was also soggy fromn too much dressing.
Several gluten free options. On the advice of the server, we ordered the roast chicken with chili butter. It was delicious. The flavors of the sauce perfectly complimented the chicken, potatoes and baby artichokes. I usually won't order chicken when dining out as I cook it at home but, after this meal, I will have to re-evaluate my position. The server was knowledgeable and very careful with my allergies.
Thank you for visiting Rio Grill Denise. I too get the hesitancy to order chicken at restaurants since it can be easily cooked at home. That being said, We're glad that you gave our Smoked Chicken a chance and even more thrilled that the flavors delivered. We take great pride in preparing the dish, starting with smoking the chicken for at least 3 hrs so that it can be tender and smoky.
The Rio has been a favorite of ours for many years. I’m not sure if management changed or if it’s due to the pandemic, but we didn’t have a good experience this last time. The service was off, the squid was not crispy, but tough and greasy, and the ribs were tough too. I hope this was just a bad night.
Our server, Andre, was the best! He made our dining experience extra special. We'll definitely go back to the Rio Grill.
Maggie, thank you for acknowledging your server Andres. He is professional yet is able to connect with our guest on a more personable level as well. Next time you come back Andres will be waiting to provide the excellent experience you've come to expect from Rio Grill.
Very good meals. Ahi tuna is really good.
There was still a wait for people with reservations but it was a long weekend
Hi, Thank you for your 5 star review! Hope you had a great weekend and thank you for dining with us! -Gabe de la Vega, General Manager
They made us wait 40 minutes. What's the point of a reservation?
Hi, I'm sorry it took so long to get you seated on your recent visit. Based on your experience, it looks like there are updates we need to make in OpenTable for seating times. I hope you choose to dine with us again so you can see how we've applied your feedback. Thank you, Gabe de la Vega, General Manager
It was a busy Saturday night so we had to wait 10 minutes past our reservation time. The food was fine and the atmosphere merry, but a little loud. Good cocktails, too.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We always do our best to seat our guests promptly but occasionally fall behind depending on the level of business. Hope you come back and see us soon so we can offer you a 5 star experience! Gabe de la Vega, General Manager
We arrived early and they could not have been nicer. We were seated and our server greeted us almost immediately. Our food was delicious- the quesadilla is different every day and is delicious every time (and we live in Texas so we know good Mexican food). The salads are amazing and the daily fish was delicious. It’s so relaxed and the wait staff is great. If they are walking past and see something that needs to be done, they do it - even if it’s not their table. And they always ask before they remove or refill anything.
The restaurant was packed and the atmosphere was happy. We’ve never been disappointed at Rio Grille. Not bored with the menu. I recommend it highly. Be sure to have the salads and try the daily Quesadilla. You won’t be sorry!
Thank you so much for your review! I'm thrilled to hear you had such a wonderful experience. That means we are doing our job! Please come back and see us again soon on your next trip out to CA. Cheers, Gabe de la Vega, General Manager
We have eaten at Rio Grill many times and the experience we had the other day was so out of character for Rio Grill. Usually everything is outstanding. The only meal worth eating was the special my husband ordered. We had reservations but waited 15 minutes to be seated. The waiter was very nice throughout the meal. My daughter mentioned that her usual go to meal was not up to Rio Grill standards. My meal was the worst of the bunch with grease a puddle on the plate. I ate only half of my meal before I had the rest of the family finish it with the same critique all around, that it was terrible. My son had meat that was tough. I don't usually write reviews but this was not what we expected & therefore diners should be prepared for a dining experience that they may regret.
We waited over 45 min to be seated and we were holding a reservation. You could tell they were unorganized and unprepared for the amount of people who requested outdoor seating. We finally ended up indoors, I have no idea how much longer we would have been waiting.
Food was just OK, fish was overcooked and dry. Rio used to be a great dining option, but I think it definitely has fallen. Not worth the time & energy.
