Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant - Boulder Ratings and Reviews
was crazy busy after the game last Saturday. We made a reservation and still had to wait a bit...not that big a deal. It was just so overcrowded it was claustrophobic. I can't imagine being a waiter and trying to get around like that. We tried to order more drinks to go with our dinner and never received. Think the bar was totally overwhelmed. The waiter was doing the best he could with the situation. I think bar orders for diners should be a priority.
The food is just ok. Not bad, but not great, either. The service is always friendly, but it always seems to be a bit of a chore to get the correct and complete order. Whether it's forgetting a drink, an extra side of sour cream, or enough chips for the table, it just never seems to be right the first time. Net-net, not a bad experience, but not great.
We had a group of 8 people.
Our food was cold!!!! My fajitas were not even grilling when they brought it to my table!! Same story with my friends food.. her chips for the nachos were burnt and she couldn't eat it. We asked the waitress to bring us a well done meat and the attitude was just not the best. We even told him in the end of the night how frustrated it was to pay almost 200 for burnt food
I will NOT COME HERE AGAIN!
Service was good, but the other aspects of the meal were underwhelming.
Service: Our server Katie was terrific -- friendly, helpful, knowledgeable.
Drinks: I used to love the classic Rio marg, but this time it just tasted of citric acid (think lemonade powder). The Agave Martini was better, if a little strange. My husband ordered red wine. They only have two on the menu, and they were out of one of them (how does that even happen?!).
Food: The Queso was bland. My spinach enchiladas were fine, nothing to write home about. The burrito had very little chicken and the "fajita vegetables " inside were still crunchy, not having been grilled enough to even cook through.
Bottom line: We won't be coming back any time soon.
My family and I always enjoy eating here! The food is great and the view is so nice! So far they have been consistent with their food. We are never disappointed! My guys order smothered burritos with beef. The beef is tender and the queso is just right! I order the grilled chicken salad because I like the grilled chicken. The margaritas are always good! So many to choose from. You won't be disappointed!
We had a reservation on a busy Saturday night. We waited 45 minutes past our reservation to be seated (in the world's busiest restaurant entrance) and then another 30 to place an order once seated. The food was good but expensive for Mexican food. We paid $50 for enchiladas, a quesadilla and 2 drinks. They need to train their wait staff on entering orders in their computer so that the bill can be split at the end of the night. Won't be back, there are better places in Boulder to get dinner.
Food was much better than we had experienced prior to this visit...excellent service with a charming yet professional young woman. We had 2 friends from France who really enjoyed the Margaritas and the food. Recent visit to the Flagstaff House was not half as good!
We went for dinner on a Tuesday that wasn't too busy and were able to sit out on the rooftop with its spectacular view of downtown and the Flatirons. Service is a little slow, but friendly. Other patrons can get pretty noisy, exuberant, let's say. The food was good, not spectacular but there's probably something for everyone.
Chicken quesadilla hardly had any chicken, steak burrito was over salted, guacamole tostad shell was burnt. This is the 2ns time in 1 month we went back, figuring the last time we went was an off night. No, the food has gone downhill. We have been going to the RIO for 15 years. Their child and salsa & margs are great, but pass on the food.
The steak nachos are my go-to item. They are dee-lish. They typically come out a little cool--I think they are made first and then are waiting on the other food items.
Service is hit or miss at Rio. Sometimes we get great service and sometimes it is 10 minutes before the waitstaff arrive
A good time was had by all on the birthday celebration. Our table was out in the 'garage' area which is a nice substitute for the rooftop (it was not quite warm enough that day) as it has an outdoor feel. The Rio's margs still live up to their reputation after all these years.
