Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant - Boulder
Sauted spinach, squash and red onion, cheese, tomatillo sauce
Try it Hot! Diabla style w/ chile de rbol sauce
The favorite Rio strawberry marg without the booze
Rio has done a nice job managing re-opening. It's like being in an intentionally uncrowded restaurant. Not that weird. Employees energy was off the chart. They are glad to be back!
1st day the dining room was open since the "rona". Great job, great food!
Other than an exceptionally long wait (gotta expect it, cuz the place is so popular, -always a fun time, without exception!
This was our first time to Rio Grande, and our first reaction was, “why in the hell haven’t we been her before?” This place has all the right stuff on the menu and the drinks were dialed. Love the vibrant bar and chatter of the place! Perfect for a Friday night date after a long week.
All good except they first ran out of the featured taco (that was heavily marketed), then after waiting for an order of sopapilla, found out they ran out of those too at 6:30 pm. Frustrating.
One of our favorite Boulder destinations for Mexican fare. We actually got a last minute 7:30 Saturday reservation via Open Table. The hostess stand was PACKED!! Nonetheless, we got seated on time. Service was very attentive. Food was as spectacular as always!
Everything was great. They seated us on time and the food was excellent. Will definitely go back!
Always consistently good food, drink, service and ambiance.
Great, friendly service. We were not rushed through our meal so our party enjoyed the evening. Loved the blood orange margarita. Food was fine.
Great margaritas. Excellent food. Always a good time!
Very good food, great margaritas, great service. Kinda noisy and no special ambiance but I would definitely go back.
The manager was extra special nice and went above and beyond to make our night special!
The Rio as always. Great service , food and fun. Thanks David W.
We had the tacos and they were very yummy and very filling!
Loud space. Nice server. Overpriced food but decent.
We would absolutely recommend The Rio over and over again. It is our fav restaurant! Don't change a thing.
We had a great time! Each staff member was energetic and willing to answer any and all questions. They truly made us feel at home. Highly recommend if you are thinking of dining out in Boulder.
Love going out here with friends for margaritas and apps. Wait staff will only check on you after you get your food, then not acknowledge you for 20 mins. Has happened a few times
Food is always amazing, however our service was terrible. Out waiter had a several tables, plus a large table of about 30 people, plus ours(8). He was clearly overloaded. We had to track him down the entire evening and ask for everything. From appetizer plates, to salt and pepper, to more drinks. A dis-service to him to have him that overloaded. We love the Rio, but disappointing this visit for sure!
Wow the Rio got a face lift! I clearly haven't been around Boulder lately but what a pleasant change! The seating is more comfortable, cozy, and oh man the food! What an improvement! I am sad that the margarita's have shrunk in size and are far less potent than they used to be, but on the plus side, no hangover! I will most certainly be back!
Stephanie made us feel welcome and appreciated. New decor is great! Food seems even better than before. Love this place!
Great service, food, drinks and atmosphere as always. David W
Margs are always worth the visit.
Nice restaurant. Seemed they were short staffed. So a manager had to handle our table. Food was good, but nothing exceptional about it. Ambiance was nice.
Rio has really gone downhill in the last couple of years but this last visit was not good. The food was bland (salsa, enchiladas) and the star of the show - the margaritas - were not very good. The margs have always been very good and nicely potent, but this time both I ordered were flat, too sour, and not strong at all.
They need to get back to basics and turn things around. I’m going on a break for a while and we’ll see if next time they’ve gotten their act back together.
The “New” Rio is better than ever! The decor, including a whole new bar, is a fantastic change and the food and drinks, and service, are as good as before... maybe better. My kids started at the Rio in high-chairs, now they take their own kids. I love it!
Won’t go back.
Food and service marginal.
Overall, our experience was good. Server was very friendly but had troubles keeping up with how busy it was. We had to pull him aside to get silverware and round of drinks.
Chips and salsa and queso great! Chili rellenos were very plain with hardly any sauce or seasoning. Would try something else if return.
Our go-to date spot. Always love the margs and burritos!
Busy weekend in Boulder, got a table last minute.
Young crowd but not too crazy. We all had the tacos, which were good. Get 6 if you are hungry. The margs could use a little work
Really miss the OLD layout and feel. Service seems to have gone downhill too.
Four friends had a fun dinner and lots of talk recently at The Rio. Our server was delightful, making sure we had everything we needed, carefully took our orders, took photos of us and came by often to check on us, but without hovering. The food (we all had different enchilada dinners) and the margaritas were delicious.
After eating our server came by but didn't hurry us out.
Undistinguished is the best I can say. Many better options.
My friend and I were went to the location near Pearl street when we were staying in Boulder. Food was awesome. Place was packed and we were seated in the bar area. I asked the waiter for a tequila suggestion to make me not hate tequila. Haha. He said the GM wanted to talk to us. He came over with a little tequila tasting for us and was super knowledgeable and picked out a few for us to try on the house. That’s amazing customer service!!
Great food and location
Good food good waiter what’s not to like!
Interesting interior and very basic food preparations. Expected a bit more overall finesse in a state with lots of great Mexican food.
Always good food, service and lots of fun. Our favorite place.
This is a fun place for happy hour, and the renovations turned out great!
When we arrived, the hostess said that we would have a 30 minute wait because the reservations we made through open table could not be honored - that the system could not tell that there were no reservations available - even though we received a confirmation. The hostess found a table for us sooner then they expected, which was great. But they must have been short staffed. It took 45 minutes to get our food and our waitress was swamped (Poor service but I don't blame her). I was taking friends out for my birthday and ended up feeling embarrassed by how late it got and how many issues we had. We liked the new decor and the food was good. Except that my husband's food came out cold and one of our guests got the wrong salad. We have been going to the Rio for years (since college) and I am sorry to say that we will not be in a hurry to go back.
