Rio Grande - Ft. Collins
We have been going to the Rio since it opened more than 30+ years ago. The food is always dependably good, sometimes really delicious. Changes over the years since Stevo and Andre began,, but the margs are still delicious, the chili con queso is still creamy yummy, the Chili rellenos have gotten HUGE and delicious, etc. The queso verduras were our favorite appetizer, since my "over 40" children were small. The manager SAYS queso fundito is the same, and it is ALMOST the same, but there aren't enough mushrooms and onions in the new dish.
The sopapillas are the BEST of any restaurant I have ever tried. In fact we don't bother to order them anywhere else . . . although we're disappointed you have decided to get rid of the agave honey . . . can't understand that. I hope you bring it back.
Overall, we still love the place, though we're getting too old for the NOISE and chaos when it's busy, and it's always busy.
We had a very good waiter this last time, and typically do, no matter who it is. We will always be back.
We made a reso and requested a booth, but were put in a table in the middle of the walkway and a booth sat open right next to us for most of our meal. That was really disappointing since we were celebrating a big anniversary that night and had people in from out of town.
My reservation was necessary on this very busy night! Nevertheless, the meal arrived in a timely fashion and was delicious! Was a great choice for a friends night out.
We had a party of 5 with baby, and they gave us plenty of space. They also put us in a corner, which I appreciated so our baby wouldn't bother anyone if he decided to cry. Server was polite and open to offering suggestions when asked. Great time and on par with how Rio usually is.
A great fun atmosphere. The best margaritas and great Mexican fare. A favourite place when visiting Fort Collins, CO.
This is the best restaurant in Fort Collins - best tequila drinks, good food, amazing patio. Good for families, couples, large groups or small.
We sat at a booth in the bar for late lunch and happy hour. Mark and Luke were our bartender/server team. They are awesome. Best food, best margaritas and hands down the best service.
This place was packed, so I'm glad I had a reservation. There was a long wait, so service was not overly speedy. Servers were friendly, upbeat, and handled my bill quickly at the table when I was done.
LOVE RIO GRANDE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. We were there to celebrate a 45th anniversary, and Rio was what we wanted. Certainly not let down. Good food, good service, and good company.
When our tacos were served cold we told the waitress and she said, "If you want, I can go put them under the heat lamp to warm them up". Without good food and well trained servers, what else can a quality restaurant offer?
I took my girlfriend on a date here and it was a blast. Our server was amazing and the food was great!
I have been coming to the Rio since 1981! When it was the little tiny place on College Ave and it is always where I like taking friends and family visiting from out of town. Which was the case on Saturday, my brother and his wife were visiting, first time in FC., her first time in CO! And MY first time ever being disappointed with the service! We got seated quite promptly, which was very nice! Hosting staff was great! Then after we got sat we literally waited about 8-10 min for water and chips, and then about another 7-10 for our server! Once he got there and took our drink order we waiting a long time for drinks to come as well. I kept telling my brother how "its never like this!" , "I've never waited this long...."! and such. Lastly, we requested more water 3x and on the 3rd time we finally got it. Food was great...love the street tacos.
Was wonderful guy and atmosphere - was PACKED inside hire more waiters
Food excellent but the noise level is a killer. Would give the restaurant 5 stars on everything if the noise level wasn't so out of control.
Always enjoy Rio and we did again this time. One thing that bothered us, we had made an opentable reservation. When we arrived at the restaurant the front desk person seemed puzzled about the reservation after I gave her the name but seated us and we had our usual good meal. I received a note from Opentable that the rio reported me as a no show on the reservation. It was cleared up that we did show, but the Rio needs to make sure they acknowledge reservations since I take showing up as a serious responsibility unless we cancel.
Love the patio, great ambiance
This is what passes for ordinary Mexican food in northern Colorado and for many it is an institution. That said, the food is ordinary-definitely better than just ok, the portion sizes overly large, the chips bulk-bought. They attempt to make it Tex-Mex, but it really isn't, not much spice to things. I love northern New Mexico Mexican food (red chili, carne asada and such), but there is nothing of that sort to choose from. The margaritas are very good. Sadly, many consider this the best Mexican food in town...Ft Collins considers itself a "foodie" town in certain aspects, but given the popularity of this place, it shows we really have mediocre food tastes. This place is nothing special, but it is probably the best choice for Mexican food in town and there are plenty of poor choices when it comes to Mexican food.
We love the Rio! It is consistently perfect!!! We are coming again on June 6 with out of town relatives❤️
Awesome place for great margs and memories. Love the Rio!!!
We went to celebrate our sons graduation. They seated us fast and we had great service.
We’re back come to the video since it opened. Separately and then together. Our first dinner date was at the Rio 31 years ago. So we know what to expect. The drinks are always good and we have our favorites on the menu.
And we sat on the patio which is great. Our waiter was especially attentive. I was quite surprised. Good job.
Mother’s Day was amazing on the back patio.
Good food. Recommended
We have never had a bad visit to the Rio! The drinks are delicious, the food is yummy and no matter how hoppin', and it almost always seems to be hoppin', the wait staff is friendly, fast and efficient. It's easy to see why The Rio is a FoCo favorite.
Service is always great, however, on last visit, food was late and tacos were cold.
We sat outside is why I gave it a quiet rating. I enjoy going to the RIo.
LOVE this place! Great food, amazing margs, and wonderful people. We'll be back (but it's pretty darned noisy!)
The best Mexican food we have had in a long time! Great margaritas too! Excellent service. Will plan to stop in next time we are in Ft Collins.
Great time celebrating my daughter’s birthday!
I enjoyed my experience at your restaurant. We came on Tuesday and took advantage of early specials. The food was good and served quickly. Our waitress was friendly and good and we will be coming back.
Happening place on a Friday night! Great food and fast service considering the place was packed. Best margs in town!
Great happy hour menu! No wonder it's a Fort Collins tradition...
The Rio makes the absolutely best Chile Rellenos and chips and salsa. Wait servers were excellent, especially with my rambunctious grand daughter. The manager (Chris) came over to table and was genuinely interested in our opinion about the food, service, etc. Very good experience! Thank you
Food was terrible the queso was just Velveeta that had been sitting in a crockpot. The restaurant was filthy. My husband and I decided to leave after we had the queso. Table was wobbly and our drinks spilled.
I really miss the way the RIO use to be. The new plates, service, food, is not as good as it was. The server was ok, but nothing like the service I have had for the past 20+ years. The Rio has been a favorite of mine for years and it was great the way it was. I hope the owners consider going back to tradition.
I love that Rio offers vegetarian options, especially their Tortilla Soup. We would have waited over an hour for a table had we not reserved ahead through Open Table. Service was attentive and food was good, but the seats are a little worn (my friend’s was ripped and scratching her legs) and the set up makes it very hard to hear your table mates. I will definitely return on a less busy evening.
We went to the Rio for Great Plates. We always enjoy the margaritas there, and the Great Plates deal was great. Our waitress, Julie, was fantastic too!
They ran out of tequila!
My only complaint is that we had specifically reserved a booth. Even though they had obviously sat two booths just prior to our arrival, we had to sit at a table. It appeared that they just forgor that we had asked for a booth.
