RingSide Steakhouse - Uptown Ratings and Reviews
My birthday dinner turned into a marathon wait, indifferent service and frankly lousy food, sorry Steve but a gratuity you did not earn. I ordered the bone in rib eye for two, asked for medium to medium rare that I was assured possible. After an hour and 40 minute wait the meat arrived blood red rare and cool in the center. By then I was exceedingly hungry and had given up. I thought what the heck, it’s a rib eye the tastiest cut (IMO), i tried it and it was tough and tasteless. I tried my wife’s smaller rib eye and it was an order of magnitude better. I will think twice before coming back.
I wish I could say I enjoyed my experience but, alas, I cannot. The food was exceptional, the staff members (valet, coat check, server, auxiliary staff) were ALL attentive and excellent. But unfortunately, my husband and I were seated next to the owners and guests who were a bit loud for the intimate atmosphere and one owner in particular was rude and demeaning to a staff member. My husband and I were thoroughly taken aback by this behavior.
For this reason alone, I will no longer bring my friends, family, staff or clients to this establishment.
The food was, as expected, very good! The service was fine but rather mechanical. We did have to request bread multiple times, soups/salads brought to the table we not quite right. They fixed it but the issue seemed to be order taker, servers, water refillers, were all different people and didn't get to 'know' our table.
We were celebrating a birthday and they didn't really do anything for it even though I noted it on our Open Table reservation, told the hostess when we arrived, and told our primary server. What we got was, "Oh, you'll get your dessert for free". For a $600 dinner bill, that's not trying very hard. We certainly would not expect nor want a sombrero and staff sing along but put a little effort into showing you care about your clientele. While we would dine there again, it would not be tops on our list for a special occasion.
I hate to say this because we have been loyal customers for years however our experience was not very good. We went for my husbands birthday and our waitress Kelli was absent most of the night. Once we got our second drink we were about done with our meal. We even had to take the check up the front to pay it because she never returned. When we told the manager up front he didn’t even act like it was that big of a deal. Disappointed.
My boyfriend wanted steak for his birthday... I wanted to bring him somewhere where I know the steaks are top notch and the ambiance cozy. Needless to say, he raved about his meal. I had ordered the special of the evening... filet with roasted cauliflower and fingerling potatoes and it was fantastic as well. Dave, our waiter, was attentive and made excellent recommendations. It was a wonderful experience, and we can't wait to come back. Thanks for making his birthday THAT much better!
We enjoyed New Year's Eve dinner at Ringside. They were running a little bit behind in getting us seated but it wasn't horrible. The restaurant feels pretty intimate (the tables weren't as crowded in as some restaurants). The ambiance/look of the place is very nice. The food was very good! My lobster and shrimp cocktail were excellent (I don't like the aioli they pair the cocktail with but I just stuck to the cocktail sauce). The lobster mashed potatoes weren't as good as they've been in the past...so between that and an ok desert I gave the place 4 stars (also our server was very nice but she wasn't on top of things like you would expect - and forgot to put in an extra order).
We have come to this restaurant frequently, over the last several years, for family birthdays. Our last visit made us question if we would come back. Our bar service was exceptional, our waitress was gracious and charming; she had a wonderful knowledge of the bar menu and helped us navigate the menu quickly. We were moved to dinner service only to be absolutely forgotten. We brought a bottle of wine, paid the corkage fee, and had it sit on our celebratory table. He didn't pour one glass of that wine. Our food was expedited by others. His co-worker Scott , was The one saving grace of our experience. Still the steak was poorly cooked and serviced lagged between courses. Sadly, I don't know if I'll be back.
We took our son to Ringside to celebrate his birthday. He is very fond of a good aged steak and Ringside did not disappoint. It has been many years since my wife and I had last been there so we were also pleased that after all these years Ringside has maintained their reputation for a quality product and quality service.
The Ringside has been our destination for our anniversary (48 years) for many, many years. It is our favorite place to eat - always great food and awesome service. There is nothing better than the sound and smell of the steak when they bring it out on the metal platter.
As always excellent, but expensive. The old saying applies to the RingSide: "You get what you pay for". You leave lighter in the wallet, but full of great steaks and fond memories. We were celebrating my wife and my 46th anniversary the previous week and my sister in law and her husband's 50th anniversary which will be in February. They live in Nevada and this is probably the only opportunity we had to celebrate their anniversary while they were visiting us for Christmas. We never thought twice about where to take them. The RingSide of course.
Sadly the quality of the steaks are not what they once were. A shame at their high prices. The special lobster mashed potatoes were fantastic. The service was great and the ambiance wonderful. Though I wish they would institute some sort of a dress code to prevent patrons from dining in sweatshirts with sports logos. I will be looking for another restaurant for special dinners.
This was my first time at Ringside Steakhouse. All our steaks were prepared as ordered and tasted very well. The side dish of Mac and Cheese was really bad. It was an odd taste and not cooked properly;runny/soupy. Rolls were excellent. Mushrooms excellent. Professional Waiter! We were sat in the very back room and the restaurant could not control the temperature-it went from perfect to freezing to warm during our two hour dinner time. All the tables in the room complained and they could not get a handle on this issue; that is a problem because I was anxious to leave so I could regulate my environment. Additionally they did not have proper chairs at the tables where we sat-too low for the table; felt like we were sitting in the overflow room. They need to address these types of concerns if they are going to charge these prices- my thoughts.
Wedge salad was weak, cause they used the same sauce that they use for their onion rings. Not good! Needed a normal wedge salad with Blue cheese dressing. Also, all our steaks (and a prime rib) were so salty! Not good! However, the steaks were cooked perfectly, just way too salty.
We try to celebrate all our specials occasions at the Ringside as it is hands down the best steak house in Portland. Ask for Scott-he is amazing and we request him every time we go. You will not be disappointed. My family has never had a bad steak and I order the lobster which is the best I’ve ever had. I especially love the ambiance-it is everything a steakhouse should be. Perfection!
A group of my wife and I, plus two of our good friends went to celebrate Winter Solstice. It had been quite a few years since any of us had visited RingSide/Uptown and we were pleasantly pleased. Fine steaks were all of our choices and each of us chose different ones, with all of us very pleased with the flavor and correctly prepared steaks. James was our server and he showed us attention, but just the correct amount. A good time was had by all & and that includes our choices for dessert.
