RingSide Steakhouse - Uptown Ratings and Reviews
Everything was wonderful. I don't like that you have to pay extra to get a vegetable. Many people have a low carb lifestyle for health reasons. While I love potatoes, I can't eat them. You should have a vegetable option on the menu besides potatoes that come with the meal.
I'll preface this review by saying we've dined at Ringside on several occasions and had stellar service by career servers. Unfortunately, last night for our 20th anniversary we can't say the same. It took 18 minutes for someone to take our drink order. We were 2 minutes away from leaving. The server was cordial, but he didn't provide that top-notch experience you expect from a fine steakhouse. In fact, I don't believe he even introduced himself by name. He may have been overworked because he had several large tables, which were clearly more important to him. I understand - that's where the majority of his tips would come from, but it was our 20th wedding anniversary so I felt cheated. We picked Ringside out of all the other steakhouse options in Portland for this special night because we thought we'd get great service in a romantic location. On top of that, our order was wrong. No, I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't care to deal with it and it wasn't an egregious error. But again, I have a higher expectation of service when you pay over $50 for an 8 oz. steak. The food is wonderful at Ringside (their special lobster mashed potatoes was to die for), but the whole package is what has us returning time after time. I've learned that the next time we go I'll be sure to request one of their long-time servers.
The service is impeccable, the food is mostly excellent, but some items are just “good”. I’m satisfied with almost everything except the exorbitantly high prices; regardless of who you are, it’s very difficult to justify $35 for good fried chicken. Or $60 for 8oz of the lesser cuts of steak.
I might not find better steak quality in town, but I can easily find better value. Most $35 steaks at similar establishments will be at least close to the same quality.
Service was amazing. I was 45 min late on Valentine’s Day and they made my reservation work. The wait staff are always amazing and very knowledgeable about their menu items. Of course the onion rings are the best ever lol, but the steak, lobster, and pork belly are absolutely a top pick for anyone coming to ringside. Wait staff very friendly and know how to make you feel comfortable. The ambiance is impeccable, the lighting and decor is just what you want from a steakhouse.
Service was great. Our server explained the menu and offered suggestions. She was friendly and the timing of the courses was perfect.
Drinks: I had wine, he had two cocktails. All were satisfactory, but very overpriced (~$15 per cocktail).
Onion rings - The hype around the onion rings is all true GET THEM. Do note the small onion rings are absolutely huge for two people so you may not need an additional appetizer. We only ate 5 pieces and took home a full large box of the rest.
Kurobuta Pork Belly - melts in your mouth, delicious! Note in only comes with two pieces and two gyoza. But this is perfect for two as the rest of the meal is huge.
Lobster mashed potatoes - absolutely amazing. They are not on the menu, but when you order a steak they give you the option to upgrade to these, I would suggest only one person between two upgrade because they are very rich and you can share.
Dry Aged New York - Delicious steak, I ordered 12 oz medium rare. It was much rarer than I expected, but probably my own fault. Ask the waiter if you are unsure. I ate 1/3 of the steak and took the rest home.
Peppered Dry Aged New York - the peppered crust is a fantastic touch, he ordered 12 oz medium well. He liked it, I tasted and thought it was a bit dry. Verdict on this steak is order it medium. Bearnaisse sauce was fantastic, not too rich.
Fries - he ordered a side of fries and we ate 2 of them. They were delicious but we were so full.
We passed on dessert (they offered complimentary creme brûlée for his bday, but we could not fit it in) she brought us chocolate toffee brittle to take home in a box. If this is on the menu GET IT. I would go back just for this.
I would recommend going to the bar area (it’s nice with booths and bar seating) for happy hour because the prices here are just too much. While we did enjoy our meal, the items we loved the most were not the steaks.
Celebrated a birthday and two couples engagements. We introduce this group to the Lobster Mashed Potatoes and the amazing dining experience that is Ringside! A great night and, as always, amazing meals and service; thank you Susan and the gentleman making sure the water and used meal dishes were cleaned before even asking. And thank you for making it extra special with the champagne & toffee!!!!
Best steak in Portland. Steaks rival those from the best steakhouses in the country.
Jimmy the bartender makes the best cocktails, he especially makes a killer old fashioned.
Best wine list in Portland.
Best happy hour in Portland with great a great menu of happy hour food...try the steak-bites.
Killer onion rings.
Everything about our experience was great with the exception of one of the waiters we caught a couple times walking out of the kitchen licking his fingers. At one time he went directly to the firmware station and started thumbing through the utensils. If this would have been my server I would have said something at that point. To say the least it was not professional or sanitary.
This is a family favorite. Never a bad experience here. We have gotten to know a few different waiters and bartenders that always make our time here even more special. Tried the crab cakes for the first time as an appetizer.. AMAZING. It was hard veering away from the traditional onion rings I must say!
We go here every year for our anniversary and are never disappointed. The service, food and atmosphere was absolutely the best. If I could eat like this every day, I would go every day, but unfortunately, my ever expanding waste line in not cooperating. The value for your meal is excellent and the steak just melts in your mouth. Love, love, love this place.
Our experience was not as good as in years past. The food tasted a little on the bland side. My steak was a little under cooked, but not bad enough to send back. Our drinks were a little watered down and my second drink was never delivered (although our server was apologetic about this). Compared to other steakhouses, I don’t think we had the best experience for the amount of money we spent.
Ringside is a very special place for my family. We take a trip to the coast every year and always eat at Ringside as our family tradition. We love it there and we always try to get Derrick as our waiter. He is a great guy- fun, great service, kind, engaging, and knows just the right amount of time to spend with us. Love that the Ringside has the dark wood interior with the fireplace and that the waiters wear their suits. It is such a throw back and so very special because of that. We can always count on great food, great ambience, great service and a wonderful time!
Said yes on recommend only from previous dining experiences. Travel to Portland on business 3-4 times a year and take customers out. Been frequenting Ringside for many years each trip.
Chalking it up to a bad night - 3 out of 8 dinners wrong or overcooked. Other people uncomfortable when meals are not presented and eating at the same time. The manager did remove from our check. Even the quality of the beef seemed out of sorts. Sure we will try again.
This is the fourth year we've been going for our son's birthday. The three previous times the food and the service were outstanding. This time the service was not good, and the food was not memorable. In particular, the garlic mashed potatoes were more bitter than garlicky. And the side dishes came out well after our meals were served.
