This restaurant is now on my list of favorites in Portland. The staff is extremely attentive and the food was very, very good! I am always in search of finding a good gnocchi. Though it is listed as a side dish on the menu, I had to try it. Wow! The wild mushroom/gnocchi is one of the best I have ever eaten. Will definitely make a point of visiting again when I return to OR.
They were not able to seat us at the time of our reservation because the people at the table wouldn’t leave. They found us a table in the bar until our table was ready. They brought us onion rings and also brought us an order of doughnuts after dinner. They were very apologetic and gave us great service.
Bar was hopping (20 min wait) so glad we had rezzies for dinner! Great champagne (Crement, which we discovered in Amsterdam) and an artisan, pickled onion-garnished Hendricks gibson got things started, wonderful seared scallops and salmon after yummy crab cake and gem-salad splits rounded out the dinner, overseen nicely by two glasses of Shea Pinot Noir (yum).
I'm from VA and was looking for a Portland restaurant to take my daughter and her boyfriend. We did a little Christmas shopping, then stopped by Ringside for drinks and appetizers before going to the ballet. We had reservations for 9:30. We arrived on time and were promptly seated. The waiter recommended a chardonnay and gave us a taste, without asking, which I did not like. He seemed a little perturbed, but mostly got over it. We ordered a bottle of pinot gris, which was fantastic. I had the Sturgeon and mushroom soup. My daughter had a seafood bowl. Her boyfriend had the Marlin. Everything was excellent, and well worth it. We finished the dinner with their doughnuts and decaf. I highly recommend this restaurant, and my next time in Portland, it's definitely on my list.
Food was very good and fresh. Lovely old school restaurant that was quiet and relaxing and charming. Server was not well informed or knowledgeable regarding the menu and one dish needed to be sent back as it was incorrectly prepared. But overall a good experience and would return -just with a different waiter . Great place for a relaxing laid back meal with very good fresh fish cooked well
Our daughter ordered the salmon and it was very good. My husband ordered the marlin. It was dry and flavorless. He was disappointed. He was hoping to have a wonderful dinner with our daughter who was home from college. He was glad her dinner was good. His, not so much.
We had a 5:30PM reservation for a pre-show dinner, 7:30 show. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time and had to wait a couple minutes to be seated. One of our party was late but we went ahead and ordered drinks and appetizer ( great onion rings) and then dinner. Everything seemed to take along time, drinks, onion rings, salads and dinner. We made it clear we had show tickets at confirming the reservation as well with our server ( Levee? ) the first time we spoke. We didn't make a big deal out it but we had to end up taking our deserts with us in order to make our show on time. We have ate here a number of times and it has never been this slow. The food was great, 3 of 4 had the pre-show 3 course dinner and all were enjoyed. we used the validated parking which was great.
Our table wasn’t ready whenever we arrived so we had s drink at the bar. Our server was very friendly and attentive but our entrees took forever to arrive and one of our sides was missing. The manager very nicely took it off of our bill. Overall we had a really nice meal and would go back.
The service, ambiance, appetizers, entree, and desserts were amazing. Every staff member from the doorman, the hostess, and the wait staff were professional and enthusiastic. The ambiance has an upscale feel to it that is also trendy and fun. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary while visiting Portland from Honolulu; and our dining experience really made the night special.
Seated at a table by the window which was very nice. Ambiance is nice and service was excellent. Food was very good as well. Both salmon and the sushi rice bowl were delicious. Complimentary validation of parking was a bonus because we went to a Broadway show after dinner.
Had a great Birthday dinner last week, with the best clams in Portland. Together with a super Kale/Arugula salad and the best Martini in town . Partner had an amazing Salmon 'collar', (Sake-kama), which was deemed the best outside of Japan! A memorable evening made even better by Nick, our very professional and amiable server. Lola, the manager stopped by several times to make sure all was well. Tops, for sure.
Will always make Ringside Fish House our place to celebrate, and will ask for Nick, definitely.
Possibly the worst value for money meal I’ve ever eaten. New York premium prices for unremarkable/ poor food. The onion rings are great. The wine was fantastic. The service attentive and well informed. But the main “special” salmon tailS was a single salmon tail with 3 mouthfuls of over-cooked flesh, dressed with undercooked sprout leaves and unpeeled squash. Scraps and leftovers - for $22.50!!! Oysters 4.50 each. Nice oysters but outrageous prices. Pleasant crab salad but should be $5 not almost $20. With reasonable prices this would get a high overall rating but extortion for leftovers is lucky to get 2 stars.
This was our first visit , we usually go to the Ringside On Burnside. I was opened minded but won’t go back. The biggest reason is my husband has a garlic allergy and the choices were reduced to one choice . Our wait staff at the Ringside goes out of their way EVERY time with suggestions to help with this, Fish house gave none? In fact I kept asking could this or this be made without garlic. Not horrible just not what we are used to.
Second reason once you have been to the original Ringside there is a certain expectation and even though I knew it would be different it was too different , ambiance, service just not close to what I have come to look forward to at the original Ringside.
We have been looking for a good upscale seafood place in Portland for a while and this is it for us. The food was outstanding and portions just right. I had butter poached lobster with a gnocchi and wild mushroom sauce as an entree. A truly heavenly blend. Plates were heated and the lobster was cooked to perfection. Beautiful visual presentation as well. The service was excellent without being intrusive. Very nice wine list, including some excellent whites from Europe. Had the Pichler Smaragd 2015 Gruener Veltiner. Its such a good seafood grape and I don't understand why other places don't offer these wines.
There were only two (minor) negatives. First, the wine was not chilled when it came out of the cellar. It was put in an ice bucket at the table, but wasn't at perfect temperature when first served. And then we ended up sitting directly below the loudspeaker, which made the music a bit too loud.
The Ringside Fish House is a top flight restaurant in every way. I have nothing but compliments for their cuisine, service (Gabriel) and modern and comfortable ambiance. Casual clothing was OK and clientele seemed to be from all walks of life. Owner greeted guests at each table and was sincerely interested in feedback from each. Rest of staff was thoroughly competent, polite and friendly. These folks know their business and demonstrate that they enjoy it. We've been to Ringside Fish House several times and always enjoy it. This time, my wife and I were meeting a friend from out of town, who was staying just a block away. She arrived before we did, got the table, had drinks waiting upon our arrival.
The staff from reception on was very friendly, and our server knew his menu backwards and forwards, and was quite attentive but never rushed us a bit.
The food was simply excellent.
The service was excellent and the waitstaff was very attentive. The food in general was o.k. but we had a very over-cooked octopus appetizer that the staff took off of our bill, and we appreciated that. The atmosphere was subdued but nice, and conversation was easy.
The seafood was amazingly fresh and very reasonably priced. We were very happy with what we received and the dining room was very nice. However the service was a hot mess and somehow (at least if our flaky server could be trusted) the kitchen apparently managed to run out of ALL side dishes while we were ordering. We were not offered bread although the tables around us received some (and we did have bread plates on our table), the server managed to make two mistakes with my order, and he offered my friend no compensation for the fact that he could not serve her any vegetables. Very disappointing and distracting.
