Riffs Ratings and Reviews
This is only our second time at Riffs, but it was equally impressive as the first time. Great food at a great price! Duck confit was cooked perfectly and beautifully plated. Most entrees were under $20 which is awesome for Boulder. So glad they are doing well. Hope to return many times.
The Pearl Street Mall in Boulder is always vibrant and energetic. Riff's is a perfect fit. We really enjoyed the diverse menu options, especially the small plates and the fish. Both the brussel sprouts and the roasted beets small plates were outstanding. Delicious cocktails and speciality brandies were fun to try. The apple turnover for dessert was delicate and not too sweet. Our collection of birthday girls appreciated the smaller portions. Bigger eaters would require ordering side dishes.
Everything about this dining experience was wonderful. Informed, friendly waitstaff, creative menu, appropriate portions, reasonable prices. I was impressed that we were informed that the "happy hour" menu was good for another 20 minutes - so we took advantage of the scrumptious brussels sprouts as an appetizer and slightly reduced prices for drinks. Our guests were extremely impressed and will return, as will we. Thanks!
We were looking for a nice spot for a good meal and this fit the bill. We went on a Monday night at 7 o'clock and by the time we left there were not many diners left (8:30). We had a wonderful brussel sprout starter, the sweet potato soup which was delicious, and the kale salad. Good service and a fun find for us.
This is the second time I've been to Riffs. I'm a frequent traveler to Boulder due to business and have eaten at most of the spots around Pearl St. Mall. I enjoy Riffs because it serves an upscale meal in a non-pretentious and casual atmosphere. Get a window seat if you enjoy people watching on the Mall, or are with someone special. Both times, I and my guests were served quickly and courteously. The specials are numerous, so review them first before hitting the main menu. The Kale Salad was outstanding as was the Hangar Steak. All served in proper portion sizes that neither overwhelmed or left me hungry. Had a reservation for two that had to be changed to three on the spot. No sweat. I'm certain I'll be back.
Well designed. Like the long narrow, cozy feel. Went on snowy day, making feel even more cozy.
Had the recommended avocado dish; lovely. Enjoyed lavender process as well.
Even my husband--who is a great cook and very picky--was truly happy with this restaurant.
We agreed that we will return.
This place is a little unexpected. Somehow, I wasn't expecting much, but the food was really excellent. Creative without being pretentious; perfectly prepared. Nice inventive themes, but you could still find something to please the non-adventurous relatives. Noisy-ish. But fun and delish.
Outstanding menu, great vegetable dishes, just enough unusual fare to sustain an interest in coming back many more times. The variety of drinks is also a big plus. I also compliment the service staff - knowledgeable, courteous and overall very professional.
Had a great experience, food was all amazing. The drinks were great, very flavorful drinks that weren't just cups of sugar, lots of herbs and spice. Ended up there during happy hour, most of the "appetizers" were heavily discounted, they were more like small plates. Most of their mixed drinks were $6, really good price for the quality. The service was a little slow but they were very busy on a Sunday. Over all everything was amazing, would recommend to anyone. Not on the cheap end but the happy our was extremely fair.
We went to riffs to meet up with some family. The location is perfect, the food is delicious, and the restaurant is beautiful. My only draw back was the noise. Part of the kitchen is near the dining area and it makes it loud. It didn't take away from the evening though.
Love Riffs! Their small plates are FABULOUS. I have dined here several times for both lunch and dinner and am never disappointed. Their wait staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. You MUSH try their Brussel sprouts (trust me on this one, even if you do not like Brussel sprouts you will like these!) Great place to meet with a friend or to reserve for "date night". Riffs is small'ish, so I would strongly recommend a reservation through Open Table for dinner.
We had a book lecture to attend next door so we didn't have the luxury of having a leisurely meal but we didn't worry as the service was attentive and prompt. Jim our server was great! Plus he never made us feel bad for not ordering drinks which we didn't do since the weather was horrible and we had to drive in it. The food was so good (brussels sprouts starter, mussels and fries, and a brined cider salmon dish for my husband, to a shared pumpkin dessert...YUM) we felt bad for not having more time.
I don't think there is a restaurant in Boulder that tries harder to make you feel welcome and appreciated. From the time you walk in until you're ready to leave, everyone is friendly and responsive. That's good management! My wife and I have eaten at Riffs four or five times and had mixed food experiences, though more positive ones than negative. Riffs wants to be a distinctive foodie restaurant, which is a challenge in a town like Boulder, the per capita foodie capital of America. Accordingly, the menu is varied and offers some interesting preparations. On balance, it has a number of "hits" and a few "misses." On this visit, my wife had seafood and I had chicken. Both were well prepared, nicely presented and quite good. We started with the onion soup, which isn't your typical onion soup, but the chèvre on toast made it quite delicious. We didn't try the desserts, but the coffee was good. The wine list is notable in that it offers a number of interesting wines at reasonable prices, unlike many Boulder restaurants. Located on Pearl Street Mall, Riffs offers outdoor seating, where the "scenery" in warm months is interesting and entertaining - if you like weird, which we do. There is a relaxed feeling at Riffs and we have never felt rushed to finish our meals. Riffs also is a good choice if you're on the mall and are in the mood for a late lunch or early dinner.
It was our first time at Riff's, on the first night of a recent trip to Boulder. Restaurant bustles, staff is attentive and food was terrific. Menu choices worked for both plant-based eating wife and omni husband. Especially stunning for both of us was the green pea hummus.
We thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant, the food was excellent and the whole experience almost perfect.
Just a warning that we were 2 tables from the back, under the ventilation system. It was a bit cold,
leaving our jackets on solved the problem and it wasn't worth moving for. Its up there the class of Salt.
There are so many restaurants surrounding Riffs, but the quality of the food places it right up there with any of its neighbors. This is the third time I have gone to Riffs for dinner and have been pleased each time. Two of us had the mussels as an entree and we were quite happy. The roasted pear starter was delicious. We had no complaints about any of the dishes. I found the flavors to be subtle and nuanced rather than intense.
The food at Riffs was interesting and very tasty. They do a good job of offering new items that you don't usually find (like roasted cauliflower) as an appetizer. They take some of the old favorites and breathe new life into the meals (like avocado and crab salad, the hamburgers, and pork loin). Delicious!! Their cocktail menu is equally as interesting and delicious.
Riffs is easily our favorite restaurant in Boulder. The food is creative, perfectly fresh, well-portioned, and inspired. The menu changes seasonally and it's obvious that much care and thought was involved with each offering. Great for a full blown celebration or holiday dinner, don't miss the desserts, or a spur of the moment burger. Service is excellent, the servers have been well trained and know the menu! The best combination of healthy and delicious.
We sat near the kitchen so we were able to watch how they control quality. One person plates every dish and he is particular. The wait staff is well trained and efficient. The food was perfect...it's to a huge place which really allows the to have single point quality control.
Visiting our daughter, a student at CU, on Sunday evening for an early dinner. The food was fresh with local specials as well as the standard menu and well prepared. Between the 3 of us we ordered a miso bowl, flash cooked brusselsprouts, tomato curry soup and green pea hummus followed by a kale salad, cedar plank organic salmon and grilled duroc pork loin. We followed this with a flourless chocolate cake, which was excellent - very light, and the special, Swiss roll with ice cream (a little dry). Prices were fair for the quality and variation. Will go back.
