Rick's Cafe Boatyard Ratings and Reviews
I had the blue crab ravioli this time. Pretty good but the sauce wasnt my favorite. It seemed to overpower the flavor of the ravioli. The crab cake it came with was amazing. My husband had the plum shrimp (which i had last time we came here) and that is probably my favorite thing onthe menu. So good!!! We also had the smoked salmon nachos for an appetizer and they were very very good.
My boyfriend and I met some friends here for Brunch one Sunday. We had a great time. There were a lot for different Brunch food options. Or you could order off the regular menu. I ordered the Seafood Frittata. I thought it was just okay. It was more like a Seafood Omelet then a Frittata so I probably would not order it again. And I also didn't love the side of Breakfast Potatoes. I didn't think they were cooked long enough, not very soft. I did try my boyfriends Stuffed French Toast and that was very good. So I would definitely go back for Brunch, I would just order something different.
I have eaten at Ricks’ several times and have usually enjoyed my dining experiences however on this occasion the service was not up to par. It appeared there was only one wait staff and he was overwhelmed. Wait time was unacceptable due to only one wait staff .
I brought my wife here for her birthday on November the 6th. It’s one of her favorite places to eat! We have always had great service and food! Very quick also!! Her favorite is the catfish I would have to say my favorite is the bbq Pizza or the bbq nachos!
We made a late reservation before driving 20 minutes across town to get there for it. They were closed due to a power outage, but from the looks of it they had been closed before we even made our reservation. We were not the only angry customers showing up to a closed restaurant. Not cool to leave the reservation system open and not notify people.
We were disappointed. We used to come here frequently in the past and enjoyed it. But this time there were some problems. The food was good, but not enough to make it a destination. Our entree came out long before we finished our salads. Dishes piled up on our table until we actually stacked and removed some. Also, the noise level was too much for us.
I came here for my boyfriend's birthday. When making the reservation, I asked for a seat with a view and to sing happy birthday. The waitress was kind but she seemed uncomfortable. We she saw our IDs she made a comment about my birthday but did not make a comment about my boyfriends birthday (we went on the day of his birthday). No one made a comment at all about his birthday which was a disappointment because I wanted to surprise him.
Other than that, the restaurant is beautiful and I would definitely recommend. The only thing that was off putting was that a restaurant of this caliber you would think would have more seasoned servers. The waiters/waitresses were impersonal and amateur which I think takes away from the quality of the restaurant. The whole time we were there a waiter was cleaning tables and had in earphones while rapping aloud. I personally don't mind but I'm sure others would.
I ordered the salmon roulade which was tasty and my boyfriend ordered the rainbow trout which I thought was delicious and will order next time.
Overall good experience.
We had an excellent time here and had a great server. The view was excellent and thought the food was delicious. The only improvement I would have is that the service was a little slow. However, the server, food, and atmosphere still made this a very enjoyable experience. Definitely recommend eating here!
I can't say how good or bad the food was because we did not even get served. Customer Service here has been by far the worst experience I have ever encountered. I had a reservation and still could not get a seat I wanted upon arrival. Once seated, it took about 30 minutes for a server to ask us if we've been helped. It then took another 10 minutes for us to get some water, which was dropped off without asking if we were ready to order. As a result, we left and notified the hostess. There was no apology whatsoever. Therefore, I contacted the manager to discuss the situation and to request compensation for a later date, since I was fed up with the service. The manager was not willing to work with us despite our horrible experience and only offered us a free drink if we came back that same day. To wrap it all up, customer service is terrible. Do not go here if you have something special planned or if you want something quick, unless you are willing to wait upwards to an hour for it.
Made a reservation, however it still took 5-10 my mutes to be seated. Took our waitress 10 minutes to greet us. Food was ok. I received tempura shrimp plate that looked like it had been sitting for a while because there was skin on the sauces. I would’ve ordered another drink, but waitress took aboutb 20-30 minutes to return after my meal was complete. Dirty appetizer plates were never removed from table.
There were several tv’s to watch, but all but 1 tv was showing the same channel though a huge baseball game was on.
So Rick' s wasn't quite what I expected or hoped for. The menu was priced like an upscale restaurant, but the atmosphere wasn't much better than a burger bar where you might look for your lost shaker of salt. Tables are VERY close to each other. I had the Prime Rib which only comes in a 16oz portion. I ordered medium. It was delivered medium well closer to well and was almost dry. In regards to "upscale" pricing, your entree is priced high and you'll pay additional for salad and most sides. The restaurant is large with lots of seating, but is understaffed so don't expect a lot of attention from the wait staff.
For the price, I'd rather actually go to an upscale restaurant. For the value, I'd rather go to a Roadhouse and get a lot more food and drinks for the money.
I was greeted by the hostess with a friendly hello and the booth that was requested was ready and they took note of the evening was a birthday. Our server was Allen and he gave us excellent service. The problem was the food .A ribeye was ordered by the birthday boy it was full of gristle and the mashed potatoes were so soft they were flat. We sent the steak back ordered a fillet mr . When our grandson tried to cut into this steak it was rare and was'nt given the right steak knife.I tried to eat my dinner slowly so our grandson wouldn't be the only one eating but after seeing how rare his meat was and he tried to eat but was a little squeamish we just boxed it up and he could try to eat it the next day. The vegetables look like it was a last minute creation of leaves.Rick's is good when things are all in place or bad😞Our last visit was a disaster but it has been over a year and thought we would try it again. The atmosphere and location is great also the music. If you have a bad server and bad food that makes a big difference. 😭
Unfortunately, I didn't even get to enjoy dinner with my family to celebrate my mom's birthday. We sat for 25 minutes without any recognition from the wait staff. Not even water. After 20 minutes I approached the hostesses and let them know we had not been seen. Another 5 minutes went by and we decided enough is enough. I asked to speak to a manager on the way out and had to wait another 7 minutes. There were 2 managers on duty, neither was anywhere near the dining room. Our reservation was at 6:30 on a Sunday evening and they were busy, but not over-crowded. I was appalled by the experience and had to take my mom and family elsewhere.
What a disappointment! Took friends from out of town there because previous times have been good. The food was dreadful. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were mushy in both that we ordered. Sent them back and i got oysters instead which were flat and not very tasty. My trout was cooked to the right degree but had no taste. The mashed potatoes actually tasted good, but clearly had been sitting flopped on the plate under a heat lamp for a long while. The waitress was fine but slow top get us our drinks. My friend had salmon that also was not very good. We all agreed this was a mistake and I won't return. Not one of INDY's dining high spots even with the nice view.
