Rick's Cafe Boatyard Ratings and Reviews
I have only been during the warmer months, and will probably continue that trend. It is overpriced to feel like ur in the middle of an Applebees. Tables on top of one another I could hear everything around me. I did ask for a romantic table as I expect there to obviously be others but landed us smack dab in the middle of the restaurant my coat and the person's coat behind me were touching the tables are so close together. Great spot when we have great weather, other than that.... not worth the price.
My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Rick's Cafe Boatyard recently for date night. The service was a little slow at first, but after getting our appetizer and drink order in, the appetizer came before our server took our dinner order. Both my husband's and my selections were exceptional. The grilled seafood was perfectly cooked with a kiss of mesquite. I chose the Atlantic Salmon Roulade which was a large portion, moist, and flavorful. The wedge salad was enormous--enough for us to share and have half the salad to take home. We chose the crab stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. They were good, but disappointing as they were swimming in Mornay sauce. But the dessert was fabulous!! We shared the cheesecake, a sweet and tart lemon cheesecake with raspberry sauce. What a finish to an excellent meal. We were both pleased with our experience and look forward to returning in the summer to watch the sun set over Eagle Creek.
Had a great time with my wife enjoying Valentine's day. We enjoyed a late evening dessert and drink. The mud pie was awesome! The best part about Rick's Boatyard has to be the outside seating but in February, in Indiana, that was not gonna happen. We've been to Rick's before and as always, the service was great and the people were friendly. It was enjoyable and we had a great time.
It was Valentine's and they sat us up stairs which was fine, except the tables that they had set up (I am guess just for that night) were so small that when they brought our main course out I had to have the waitress take away my salad that I was not done with because there was no room on the table.
We had the filet mignon which was great!
After our dinner the waitress asked me if I needed a box to go because I had at least half of I meal left and I said yes so she preceded to take my plate away (some restaurants will take the plate back to the kitchen box it up and bring it back to the table). When she came back to give us our bill my husband asked were my food was and she said oh I guess I must have misunderstood her and here is the bill and here is where you add the tip. She didn't ask if she could make things right with us so I assumed it was no big deal to her.
Thank you for hearing me out. We live really close so we might be back.
As always the food and service at Rick's was excellent. However, someone thought it was a great idea to open up the second floor for dining without serious attention to the ambience, comfort or seating arrangement. After you climb the stairs, the tables at the top of the stairs are in darkness. The furniture is some kind of outdoor stuff (wood folding chairs) that are very uncomfortable. The tables near the windows (only on one side of the room) are arranged so you are seated as if you are sharing a table with the people next to you and only the people facing the windows can see any view as everyone else has their back to them. In the future we will always decline being seated upstairs, as several customers did that night, unless some extreme updates are made. This really ruined our romantic Valentine's Day atmosphere. Terrible!!
Celebrating a birthday, the dish I ordered was inedible. It was grilled plum glazed shrimp and there was a thin shell on each piece. The shrimp was too sticky to peel, it was awful. We sat in the bar for the best view, but the party behind us was loud and we couldn’t carry on a conversation. Then to top it off I get an email from open table that I missed my appointment. Did I get points for this? Rick’s has the atmosphere but they need to step up their food to equal the high prices
The food was excellent!!!! At some point it got too busy for our waiter to return. I didn’t ever get my refill he took which was no big deal and didn’t change my satisfaction. Also the Margarita my date had must’ve been bottom shelf because it was the worst she has ever had. Maybe our mistake because we aren’t drinkers and she could’ve chosen the wrong tequila. Great place for a date and a once in awhile dinner due to cost. Not many average people can handle $130 meals.
This was a "Girls Day Out" from work for lunch. I made a reservation a few days prior, provided a credit card as requested to hold the reservation. However, on Saturday when 3 of the 10 guest arrived with me, approximately 5 minutes prior to our reservation time, I asked if we could be seated. The male who greeted us at the front desk told us "no" that we would have to wait until 6-7 guests were present to be seated; and if we liked we could wait in the bar until that time. Within minutes after walking to the bar to be seated, another guest in our party arrived. The male immediately walked over to us then says, I'll go ahead and seat you now. I was a bit annoyed with this because I thought that was the purpose in making the reservation; so that the business would be prepared for large groups. I didn't understand why there needed to be 6-7 present to be seated when he turned around within minutes and seated our group of 5 at the time. Other than that, we enjoyed our time there.
Booked reservations online on Open Table. Went because we had coupon. We enjoyed dinner for the most part. My husband ordered Chicken Fettuccine which was made with a marinara sauce. He thought the chicken was over cooked. I had mahi-mahi which was blackened and I thought it was very good. We had very good service. Would go again.
A place you take out-of-town visitors. Or you want to go to because you haven't been there in a while. Food is always inventive and delicious and served pretty quickly by the army of wait staff. Server could have been more attentive to simple items like water and should have stopped by more often. And this is from someone who does not like intrusive overly-smiley servers. Overall, Ricks remains the place we can always count on for a good all-around experience.
I've dined at Rick's for many years. This visit was a bit disappointing as the service was shaky. We had a reservation for 715, arrived at 705. They made us wait until 715 to sit down despite our table being open and ready (I could see it). It appeared our server was covering too many tables. The booth seat I was sitting in was broken (wobbled and feel forward with people behind me got up). Overall, still one of my favorite spots, just an off night for Rick's. Everyone gets a mulligan!
Everything was great except in making online reservations, it doesn’t seem that there’s good communication between the Open Table app and the Restaurant’s computer system. We had asked for a specific spot and the host didn’t seem to know based on the online booking. This was the only glitch for us.
We have been loyal diners at Rick’s for nearly 15 years. Averaging about $100+ per week. If you do the math, we have spent over $75K at this restaurant during that time. A review of my Open Table account will support this statement.
On this occasion, our reservation was completely disrespected and our loyalty ignored.
We made a reservation early in the day regarding the 9:45pm slot. Rick’s called my cellphone at 5:40pm to ask for a confirmation. My cellphone was not with me from 4pm through the evening so I never received this message. The time slot I selected was open on the Open Table app and implies full service.
Upon the arrival of 2 members of our party at 945, they were informed the kitchen was closed and the bartender was already leaving. Upon my arrival, the manager in charge for that evening shared a very weak explanation of “confirmation “ requesting process no reply was an indication we would not keep our reservation; so Rick’s was full service was closed. This is horrible business. What was very evident is that the people working wanted to shutdown early; plain and simple.
We are done with Rick’s for the time being until we feel we can enter this establishment and feel respected again.
