Rick Moonen's RM Seafood Ratings and Reviews
VERY slow food delivery even though all we ordered were cold salads. Clearly thrown together, literally, and mine had no dressing but by the time the server came by again I’d already eaten it. No bread or anything to snack on while enduring the long wait. Our server apologized three or four times but did nothing else. If the food had been stellar might have overlooked the wait, but it was not. This used to be a great place; this time I heard other diners complaining as well about food quality.
I choose this restaurant based on its yelp reviews, menu and chef. I was expecting to be wowed and I honestly I felt like it was an average meal I could get at a McCormick and Schmidt’s or other chain. I had crap cake and Lam chowder for appetizers and both were the best part of the meal. I had surf and turf for dinner and the lobster was chewy and the filet was over cooked and had little flavor. The red wine reduction was simple and didn’t really add anything to the meat. My wife had shrimp and mushroom risotto. The risotto was very good but shrimp again were over cooked and chewy. Overall nothing was bad but for higher end restaurant with a celebrity master chef I expected more.
We had brunch and enjoyed the food ordered from the listed brunch menu and also for the special order (not listed in the menu). I loved the sushi dragon sushi roll and the rainbow roll. We also got the lobster for lunch (not in the brunch menu). Service and food are outstanding. Our server was attentive to our needs. We will be back!
I was celebrating my birthday and going to see the Michael Jackson One show so this restaurant was perfect. First we started off with a glass of the Riesling which was very good not too sweet not too dry. I had the Cesar salad and the surf & surf which was to die for and my friend had the mussels, sushi and cucumber salad. Since it was my birthday they surprised me with a piece of key lime pie (my favorite)with a lit candle. It was sooo good! When in Vegas I would definitely come back.
Absolutely wonderful! Exceptional service by Chris! We shared the steamed clams to start...perfect..Manila clams and lots of garlic the portion was large! DH chose the crab duo, king crab and a crab cake. He described this as the best meal of our vacation. I chose 2 sushi rolls. Quality was exceptional and they were willing to omit the cucumber for me. Timing was good as we were seeing a show after dinner.
Dined there on several occasions, and as always the food was excellent. What set this meal really apart was the service. Our server, Chris was spot on with recommendations of both drinks and food. His timing was impeccable as well, as he anticipated our needs, without us even having to ask.
My daughter & I were celebrating my birthday with dinner & The MJ Cirque show. Our salads were very good. My daughter had the mussels and had to send them back. I had the steamers which were salty-fair. Sushi was pretty good. Wine was excellent. We had a special assortment of desserts which were very good. But the best part was our waitress, CJ. She was very friendly, great personality, & a pleasure to have as our waitress.
Came for Ricks tasting game and it did not disappoint. Our server Nick was great appreciated his great customer service even though we were not dining for a complete meal this time. We had had some not so great service through out the week. This was our last culinary stop and it definitely ended oh a high note. Delicious unique flavors and so much fun guessing all the flavors. We got 11.5 out of 16 which Nick informed us was quite impressive.
They were out of several things on their menu. Beer as well. For a so called high end sea food restaurant in Vegas I expected a whole lot more!!! I give credit where credit is due. This place on the other hand needs work. Oh, and restrooms were out of service and toilet water was all over the floor towards the back of the restaurant!
Open Table's reviews and cost rating is wrong. This is not an inexpensive $$$ restaurant. Their wine list is more pricey than I've seen anywhere in Las Vegas. I can buy these same bottles anywhere else in Vegas for 10-20% less. The services was ok, but our waiter kept looking away when we were talking to him trying to place our order...like he was distracted or had somewhere else to be. He was knowledgeable and pleasant, but seemed distracted or disengaged at times. The rest of the wait staff were very friendly, from water to service food and clearing table, the wait staff were excellent and friendly. The manager never stopped by our table to say hello yet walked by 6 or 7 times. We had over a $600 bill- 5 meals and 2 bottles of wine. The food was ok, but not huge servings and no bread offered and sides were alacarte. I did really like the fish dip! The oysters were good as well. It's more like $$$$ in cost and for that I would definitely choose another venue in Las Vegas- hands down!
We have eaten at RM's Seafood 3 times: twice in one weekend in February 2011, and this past week. Our dining experience in 2011 was so incredible we vowed to go there again the next time we went to Las Vegas. The meal then was their Surf and Surf, which included lobster and Alaskan King Crab, over a bed of Orzo in a light Marsala sauce, and they had an amazing sushi called the Fujimoto Fireball. We wanted this meal again, so when we came back 9/2/2017 we had high hopes. My sushi was no longer on the menu, so I settled for a recommendation by the server and although it was good, it just wasn't special like before. The Chowder is great! Then we got our Surf and Surf: lobster, and 3 large shrimp. My wife added the King crab, and they had a special that particular night that added several large scallops, so I got that. The shrimp, crab, and scallops in our dishes were cooked perfectly, were very tender and exactly what we expected. The lobster tail however was very tough and rubbery with little flavor, what I have experienced when it is severely overcooked. I mentioned to the server I was disappointed in the lobster and they prepared a replacement...which was better but still very overcooked. The lobster claw in the dish was very tender and tasted great. The Orzo in the dish was prepared with a truffle sauce, that to be honest reminded me of a can of Cream of Mushroom soup...it was heavy and thick, and nothing like the light Marsala sauce we previously experienced.
So service was great, this is fine dining and it is a significantly priced meal, but I guess you just can't go back. It wasn't the same. My wife and I have been married for 30 years, and she counted her meal at RM's Seafood in 2011 as one of the top 2 meals of her life. We just didn't like it near as much, and that diminished the "value" paid for fine dining. BTW, in 2011 that restaurant was PACKED...long wait for a table. Saturday night it wasn't even half full at 7 PM.
