Richardson's Cuisine of New Mexico Ratings and Reviews
We came to celebrate 2 birthdays and had some very good and different food, including a spicy prime rib and fresh sea bass. Other members of the group tried a variety of dishes and all were pleased. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. The down sides were the noise level; could not hear others across the table, and the prices. This was a very expensive dinner per person, something you might expect at a more formal and higher-end appearing restaurant.
We went here for Father's day. He used to come here every weekend with friends for lunch but hasn't been in over a year. We brought him here and they made his favorite brunch special even though they weren't offering it that day. It really did make his whole Father's day. Also, we had a lot of dietary restrictions and our waitress Liz was extremely accommodating rather than frustrated with all our substitutions.
I already sent an email directly to the restaurant, buy I can tell you I was deeply disappointed. I made the original reservation about 4 weeks ago and recently updated it to be a table only, not a booth. A couple of people in our group are physically challenged and sitting at a table is easier.
After I made the change through my online reservation, a couple of days later the restaurant called to confirm. We went over the details and the caller confirmed the table request was fine. Not once did she mention that the ONLY table was outside without the luxury of A/C or even misters! Mind you it was about 104° that day in Phoenix.
The food. Eh. One appetizer was severely delayed because it was served to another table! There was no apology. No visit from the manager.
All in all, the evening was truly a disappointment. We won't be going back any time soon.
I took my staff for a birthday dinner. We arrived 10 minutes early. There was no one to help or any acknowledgment of our presence. We went to Rockerij where we were met promptly and led back to Richardsons. We waited while they got a table ready and the hostess reminded us we were a little to early as if she was annoyed. We got a table eventually. Our orders were taken and the server was not completely knowledgable of the menu and forgot a few things. When appetizers arrived the bottle of water at the table was spilled onto my lap by the clumsy server. NO APOLOGIES from her whatsoever. In the end the experience was acceptable and I gladly left a 50 cash tip. I get an email from Opentable that we did not honor our reservation according to Richardsons. Overall in was a disappointing dining experience but we tried to be understanding and gracious to our server. Richarsons did not return the favor.
The food was very good as always. Portions are larger than they need to be but good. My husband's dinner was a little over cooked (burned in places )
Temperature in the restaurant was so cold that it made it unpleasant but luckily we had all brought sweaters and were able to bring them in from the car.
Busy on Mother's Day; good thing I made a reservation well in advance. We got right in and seated promptly. Our waiter was super, and he was really busy. Very honest recommendations and he was spot on. The food was very good and the price tag was reasonable. We'll definitely be back and will tell others!
The food was fabulous. The patio seating in April was perfect. Our waiter started out fun and personable. But when it was time for the food to be served it all fell apart.
First two of the four plates arrived. The first two people did not want to eat until all were served. After 5 min we begged them to eat so their food did not get cold. They began eating. Then a third plate arrived. Same scenario. After about 20 minutes the final plate arrived. Lots of appologies were made but without explanation. I would have expected them to offer a 'condolence" but nothing of this nature was done.
I will go again as one time, shame on you. If it ever happens again, I will not return.
Wonderful food and the best service. A group of eight of us went for brunch and it was wonderful. Service was spot on, we had Matthew as our server. He was pleasant and took very good care of us. Making sure we always had what we needed. The food was delicious, delivered from the kitchen piping hot. I had Huevos Rancheros, they were to die for. The others had Crab Cake benedicts, the Breakfast Burrito, the Hangover (recommended highly), Lobster Omelet, and Chili Rellenos. The tortillas were fresh and hot. The Mimosas flowing...go enjoy..it is so yummy. I can't wait to go back.
I have a legitimate amount of experience with this restaurant, from my in-laws frequenting the place for the past 25 years and the stories that they tell about when it was a "hole in the wall". To having my wife and I's engagement party at Dick's (at my wife's demand!!!) As well as numerous other family celebrations between the 3 locations... My "review" will be curtailed to Richardson's.......
There are some nuances with Richardson's, important in my opinion, first being the size of the restaurant and more importantly the size of the kitchen, and what I mean by size is, it is a very small space, it is intimate, and I would say great care has been taken into what they do with the smaller space, including having air conditioning in the backs of the patio seating and low level lighting ect. ect. ....
Without breaking down all aspects, here is my list of what to expect, when dining at Richardson's:
1. They have a small (tiny) kitchen, your meal with take a while, but it will always be cooked with consistency and top ingredients.
2. Sea bass is "out of this world" delicious.
3. If you are cautious of "spicy dishes", ask your server about the dish, they will guide you, because they have dishes that bring the heat!!!
4. Ask your server about the dishes that are not on the menu or that cross over to Richard's other establishments. (Linguine being at the top of the list).
5. Order the garlic platter.....It takes a long time to cook, but it is something special.
6. Garlic shrimp pasta, will makes your toes curl.. #1 go to item on the menu.
7. Sunday brunch is low key and very good, bloody Mary's are decent. Eggs Benedict is Awesome.
8. If you make reservations in advance, I would recommend asking for Linda as your server, she is delightful and knows the menu and "not on menu items" off the top of her head.
9. The place is impressive enough, that I have never written a review online or otherwise for any type of business until now.
Food is always really good. I was very disappointed that even with a reservation for 4 we were sat at the worst table in the place. I even asked the hostess for a booth - they were all open at the time. She said she was not able to. Towards the end of my dinner I was on the way to the restroom and walked past the manager, I explained my disappointment to him and he didn't seem to care. When we left there were still booths open, they could have easily sat us there with no issues to other reservations. Service was subpar, had to ask for extra water multiple times and my husband was brought the wrong beer.
This continues to be our favorite restaurant. This time we had Jason as our server and he was exceptional. I do find it to be rather pricey, but the portions are so large you could easily share an entree or take your leftovers home for another meal. The carne adovada is awesome.
What a disappointment! The menu has changed and it was hard to pick combinations or items. I chose a shredded beef enchilada and a cheese chili relleno. I got two chili rellenos and a small cup of beans. Refried beans would have been excellent. The ones I had came from a can with no garnishment. Plus, they got my order wrong and gave me two chili rellenos, one beef and one cheese! Eeeek! The red sauce was so hot my gut was dying for two days. I personally will not go back! Plus, they didn't automatically credit my open table reservation. I looked like a no show!
Had friends from out of town visiting us. We took them to Richardson's for dinner. We all had a great time, and our friends could not stop talking about how great the food was. We were all pleased with our meals. The Adobo chicken was amazing! The New Mexico Enchiladas were to die for. Highly recommend this place.
I'm from New Mexico originally and was so excited about having some authentic Mexican food and chile. The server and other reviews made it sound like it was going to be amazing but it honestly wasn't. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was awesome. I'm really sad the food didn't meet the expectations everyone set for it. I will unfortunately not return. Especially for the price.
