Rice Bistro and Sushi Ratings and Reviews
We have gone to Rice Bistro for many years and never been disappointed with anything. The food is excellent, the atmosphere lovely, great service, and you can actually have a conversation without yelling. We will continue to enjoy Rice Bistro for many years to come.
They are going through the motions at Rice. It used to be a great little neighborhood place, but the last few times the food has been only average at best. Today we had a fish dish, but the veggies were plain, no sauce no nothin' and served at room temp as was the rice. Clearly the veggies were microwaved and never saw a wok. The rice was room temp. At an earlier visit, what appeared to be bagged frozen veg were scattered across the entree. This is NOT Asian cooking. Today, the manager tried to help, but if the kitchen doesn't know how to cook Chinese, nothing will help. We are sad that a once serviceable restaurant is taking the easy way out.
Moved to Denver from Los Angeles a few years back and was very concerned I wouldnt find a good nearby sushi place. Having discovered this gem I am overjoyed. The head sushi chef is always warm and welcoming. The hot food is good but the sushi is amazing. I highly recommend the salmon belly, wasabi creme roll, and the gabby roll, but its all going to be excellent. Pricing is good as well.
Overpriced for very typical Asian food. The waiter asked if I wanted my wine refreshed when it was half full which was confusing so I said sure! He came out with another full glass f wine and then carted another $16! Will not he going again! Dinner with an app, 3 maki rolls, one entree, and 1 cocktail and 2 glasses of wine was $120! Crazy and I'm from the Bay Area!!!
Located in an unpretentious strip mall, Rice Bistro has a perhaps surprising warm and elegant interior. Varied menu at lunch, including affordable lunch specials. The menu is typical Chinese with some Japanese and a wide variety of sushi. Service was excellent on my last visit; friendly and efficient.
They served a sushi roll with "super white tuna" on top. We eat all kinds of tuna, but never heard of "super white." When we asked our server what it was, she said it was delicious melt-in-your-mouth tuna. But the price was not for tuna. Hmmm. Something was "fishy." Quick google on our phone and we discovered -- to our shock -- that super white tuna is a sham, a fake name for escolar, a white snake mackeral that has a disgusting way of creating an almost instant laxative. It's called the Ex Lax fish.
Why would you serve this and call it something else???? A dangerous lie! Fortunately we didn't eat enough to cause harm. I encourage you to google escolar before you ever try a bite.
On the sake menu, they list a range of sake bottles starting at around $8 going up. You think you are going up in quality, but no..... they are not the same sized bottles! They should list the MLs for each bottle so you are not duped. We had bought a bottle of our favorite Hakushika Fresh and Light for $8 thinking it was a good deal (it's usually $14 or $16) but lo and behold it was a "miniature" bottle. Come on.
Food was good, as was the service. Prices are a little high for what you get in terms of quality. We made the mistake of going on Mother's Day. They squeezed in extra tables wherever they could to maximize on the day, as many places do. One problem with that is that anytime someone needed to get up or move it required several others to have to move as well (Mother's Day, lots of kids). But the biggest problem was the wait. Waited over 30 minutes for our food after ordering. On a different evening when the kitchen staff isn't over extended maybe this is a 5 star review across the board?
The food is ok. However it is, in my opinion, much pricier than what it is worth. Even though the food was ok, I am not sure I would return because the service was terrible. They are ridiculously slow and I went for lunch where there were maybe five normal sized tables with people. It was baffling that this lunch break took almost two hours!
We always love Rice- the service is great and the food is too. We order sushi and crispy honey shrimp when we go in, as we don't like those for take-out. The shrimp isn't crispy when it arrives. When we do take out/delivery, we love the chicken fried rice, mu shu chicken, and many more entrees.
Rice Bistro is my wife and I's go-to sushi place. Normally they're on point without fail, but this was New Years Eve... not their best showing.
1. Service was slow.
2. We're reseated after being seated in a booth, that was supposedly reserved, although no one ever showed to use it.
3. We're seated at a table by the windows which were extremely cold.
4. Food came out cold.
5. When my wife brought this hostess attention, nothing was done to solve our concerns.
My wife and I will get back, and hope service returns to its normal state.
Our group had a lot of dietary needs, and the waiter was very accommodating. He really did an excellent job of managing all our requests which is unfortunately rarely the case. One person in our party did have some tummy troubles about an hour later and while I can't say for sure it was the food, it does make you wonder.
We also informed the people up front that the ladies room did not have hand towels--twice--with about 20 minutes between requests. We eventually told our waiter and he assured us that the problem would be resolved although none of us can verify that it was accomplished.
Overall we had a pleasant evening, our waiter was excellent, and we will definitely be visiting Rice in the future.
There was an emergency during the time we were at the restaurant, my boss actually assisted a woman who was choking on some food. Emergency crews were called in quite quickly and the customer was taken away in an ambulance. Jim Reichert, my boss helped clear the customer's airways (he's a MD) and with the assistance of other patrons, one being a dentist who helped the woman first made sure that she was conscious and breathing when she was transported via ambulance. The staff at the restaurant were very gracious to Jim and thanked him repetitively for assisting in this dangerous situation. Also, the entire staff was concerned about the customer and showed great care to the customer and those in the dining area - making sure to accomodate and take care of everyone afterwards. Kudos to an excellent staff - they called 911 right away and I'm sure the woman who's life was touched that day appreciated everyone's concern. Good job!
This is one of our favorite go-to restaurants. We have some sushi eaters in the family and some who won't go near the stuff. The menu has options that fit all of our tastes. The staff super friendly, the food is fresh and delicious and the desserts are out of this world. Try the toffee butterscotch brownie. YUM. We have only had great experiences here, and we go there more than I care to admit. :)
I picked Rice Sushi and Bistro because my wife and I had lunch there several times. Our friends joined us for a great evening of dinner and conversation. I like the restaurant because they very much cater to my gluten free needs. Items that can be made gluten free are clearly marked on the menu. As GF people will know, in some places it will be salad and maybe one or two entrees, but not here. They have a lot of options and even come with the GF soy sauce to ensure that you have a great meal. All four of us ordered something different and shared the entrees in so far as possible. In spite of the large serving sizes, we managed to leave with 4 clean plates. We all commented that this will be a place that we would return for another meal.
