American
Rhubarb serves seasonal, regional American fare, sourced from nearby farms and dairies. Acclaimed chef John Fleer, formerly of Blackberry Farm, and his team craft a daily-changing menu including wood-fired dishes, plates made for sharing, house-baked breads, and other rustic creations. A thoughtful wine list showcasing natural and biodynamic wines and a full bar round out the offerings. Rhubarb asks that parties of 6 or more please contact the restaurant directly. We are closed every Tuesday.

The restaurant has a really cool vibe to it in downtown Asheville. New American faire from a multi time James Beard finalist and a pastry chef that worked at Bouchon lived up to expectations.
Our server Becca masterfully took us from cocktails & a snack thru small plates large plates and desserts and batted 1.000 with her suggestions. Overall and excellent experience that I would reccomend to anyone who truly appreciates locally and responsibly sourced food.

Great food, service, and atmosphere. The appetizer, prepared from ingredients we foraged earlier in the day, was incredible. Thank you Derek! The pet friendly patio was a plus and our waiter Robert was terrific. Thanks, Robert!

We had a rude arrival by the hostess that was followed by horrible service from the moment we sat down . We went on a Sunday evening and ask about a substitute on the menu which our server would not even ask the chef about. He then took his time to get our cocktails to us . Once we ordered our food one dish came out 15 minutes later after we told him we were missing an item . Our servers name was Robert . Had such high expectation’s as so many friends told us to go here to eat . Not sure I’d give them a second chance . Food was good once we got it all.

Amazingly fresh food. The salad was awesome. The sausage was the best I’ve ever had! The homemade sauerkraut on my muffin sandwich was crunchy and good!!

We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and watched the open table be available the entire 15 minutes. Once seated, the lamb ribs and burrata appetizer were fabulous. The waitress was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about the menu and ingredients. We were seated on the patio and were able to enjoy the action and musicians on the street. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend Rhubarb and would go back next time we are in town.

One of the most creative cuisine's in Asheville. 'Cudos' to the chief!! Had a tartine with Chanterelles that were foraged by one of the chiefs. And they were cooked very lightly put to the side of the tartene for maximum enjoyment. Not many restaurants know how to cook Chanterelles to maintain their flavor and delicacy. Highly recommend Rhubarb especially to folks who love local ingredients and creative cuisine.

Food was delicious. The pork shoulder was small, fatty and not an entree size dish--more like a small plate but priced as entree. Not a good value.

While our server was very nice and attentive, I did not think they food was that great. We did tapas style and had the oysters Benton, burrata and another item I cannot recall. The oysters were so small - smallest I’d ever been served at any restaurant. I just found the found to be bland overall. It was all fresh and I liked the concept but the dishes were lacking for savory taste - in my opinion. I’m glad we went but I wouldn’t return. The noise level was also very loud. We were at a small table for 2 and I had a hard time hearing my husband most of the dinner...

My friends and I were in town for a wedding and had the pleasure of dining at Rhubarb on a Friday night. It was very nicely decorated but the food was FANTASTIC! One of my friends has a gluten allergy and they were very knowledgeable and accommodating. For a couple of foodies we were sold!

I had high hopes, but as someone with health related dietary restrictions, this restaurant is not flexible in it’s substitution options. I need to cut carbs and making it so you can only sub a carb for a carb is in no way accommodating. Now that I know, I won’t be coming back. The purpose of this review is for others with similar dietary restrictions knew before choosing to eat here. On the positive side, it is a great location.

On the advice of more than a few old and new friends, we made dinner reservations at Rhubarb as part of our week in Asheville. The service was exceptional as was the meal. Really enjoyed ourselves. Our server told us the plates were designed to give layered flavors based on complementary individual tastes of everything on the plate. Conscious fork full's of as many of the different components of the plate delivered really wonderful bites! A very bitter green complemented a perfectly cooked bite of steak along with it's flavorful rub. Glad we didn't miss it!

The table was ready for a requested reservation time
We’ve eaten at this restaurant any number of times
Service was a bit slow this time but they were very busy
The menu changes daily and that’s one of the things we like about it so much and most of the product is from local purveyors

We visited on the 4th of July as a family. The food was really good, especially the cheese plate, French toast, and sweet potato skillet. We did not anticipate a brunch menu, so one of the kids in our group was bummed to be limited to it. It's a gorgeous spot, inside and outside. I would visit again if staying in Asheville.

Food was tasty and creative, but some of the potions, like the nudi, were really too tiny. The shrimp was excellent, and I really enjoyed the grits. The fried hominy needed a dipping sauce.

The food is innovative, but can be hit or miss. Very nice restaurant aesthetically. Our waiter was perfunctory at best. She did just enough. I realize that they serve a lot of tourists, but that shouldn’t be an excuse. We are local, but it shouldn’t matter either way. It’s a shame really. Niceness is something you can dole out free of charge to anyone.

Lamb chop appetizer was good, but should have gotten two orders for a lady's entree. Pork shank also very good. The squash casserole was okay, hard to tell all the ingredients. Wine pour was downright stingy for $14 a glass.Still, it's a good restaurant cooking over a wood fire. Sitting outside is an option as well, which diners get on a first in line basis. Parking in downtown Asheville, especially in the summer, is a fight. Take an Uber.

Part of our Anniversary Getaway, Rhubarb came highly recommended by the proprietor of our B&B. The street noise was a little conversationally disturbing at times, but we had desired the patio seating st the front of the restaurant. Our server graciously walked us through the menu. The food was very creative and amazing — really amazing — but don’t ask me to repeat the details. The fancy wine was a bit above my pay grade, as typically a single glass at $8 is just fine for me, and I must have missed that detail in the server’s recommendation. All said, we would love to return upon another trip to Asheville.

The appetizers were just ok. We had shrimp and the oysters. Both were uninspired. Plus it was slow to get them.

The mains - trout and grouper were very good but it took a long time between appetizer and main.

As a ‘sort of compensation for the slowness’ we got a dish of green beans which were very good but really didn’t make up for the lack of service.

Food & drink were great. The only negative was the server bringing the dessert menus before we finished our entree. Made you feel very rushed. Not sure why this was done but it made an otherwise great experience less so.

This restaurant has a couple of policies that make it less than a perfect experience. They charge a penalty for any cancellation on a reservation of 6 or more within 24 hours, although they did waive this for us as two people in our party had an emergency. They also have a policy of not splitting checks which seems unreasonable in a place like Asheville. No other restaurant I am aware of has this policy. Also, my poached egg was so over cooked it was completely hard. Our waitress seemed a little testy, so not the best experience all round.
