They did not have my reservation on file. Fish and chips was mediocre. Coconut shrimp was over cooked. Bar did not know how to make a mojito. Charlottesville is a great restaurant town but this just didn't measure up. Don't think I'll be back.
I brought my family here for Easter brunch and had a phenomenal experience. The food and service were exceptional. If you're debating about it, just go ahead and order the crab cakes! We sat on the porch outside, enjoyed our time, and didn't feel rushed, even on Easter Sunday! However, Rhett's is actually not using OpenTable for reservations. They use yelp, I believe. So when we arrived, we were one of many families who's reservation was not on the books Sunday afternoon. Rhett himself came out, apologized, and then did everything he could to make our reservation an overall positive experience. I would absolutely recommend going to Rhett's, they took great care of us! Just don't book through OpenTable.
Place is Awesome but not on your Network which put them in a bide when we showed up with no actual reservation, they made it work in style. OpenTable needs to get their act together!!
Unfortunately they don't except opentable reservations. Only use yelp to take a reservation. Go figure.
The food and service were excellent as usual. HOWEVER, we went there for Tuesday's All U Can Eat Crablegs and after we were seated were told Rhett's no longer offers that. We were beyond disappointed. We had been going about once a month since it began. We were shocked! Then we find out that only 1 1/2 lb. would be $33 without any sides! We saw the prices rise over the last couple of years but it was a special treat for my grandson and me so even though really pricey (usually $100 after tip) it was worth it. Had we known it was no longer offered we would have gone elsewhere. We really did only go there on Tuesdays. They should at least put a sign on the window or board on Tuesdays to let people know. It was a tradition but sadly no more.☹️
Makes the 4th time we had been to Rhett's. We were celebrating my husbands 50 th birthday. Great food, great service. Definitely worth the ride over the mtn!
Another great evening! The food was delicious, drinks were gernerous and staff excellent.
Great place to eat and be with family, the really take pride in what they do.
Sadly I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. We were told we could only order from pages 1 & 3 of the menu, which happened to be the most expensive. For the food we got, it was not worth $55. Small selection and high prices. I won't be back
Oysters were superb - especially the Oysters Rockefeller! The She Crab soup was awesome! Our bartender was so nice and personable and took great care of us! Will return if ever in the area again!
Had dinner with friends for Rhetts customer appreciation week. The service was good, although the server did forget to bring my appetizer when he brought the other two. The grilled oysters were delicious. I had the shrimp and grits. It was tasty but the shrimp still had the tails on. Since it was in a sauce, it was messy to eat the shrimp. I had the bourbon pecan pie for dessert, but wasn't thrilled with it. I have eaten at Rhetts many times. This week just wasn't my favorite. I should have ordered off the regular menu instead of the fixed menu.
Overall, good but not great experience. Came here for dinner before UVa BBall game-I didn't realize its a fair bit out town. Most of the items we ordered were good and the one major miss was corrected by our very friendly server. Everyone is very friendly and service was prompt. Portions are large.
I started with oysters-I thought they would be raw as I requested; they were slightly steamed and ok but not great. My duck was good (although a bit rarer than preferred) and the sides were very good. My daughter's crab cake sandwich was good. First order of ribs brought to my wife were overdone, very hard to remove from the bone, and had virtually no flavor. Waitress noticed my wife not eating them and without even a specific request by us, put in an order for a second batch without charge. Second batch were delicious. Good beer selection and we were done in plenty of time to get back south on 29 for the basketball game. Interesting that my Dark and Stormy was brought to me with the rum in a shot glass and the bottle of ginger beer and I mixed it myself.
I would come again if nearby, but don't think I'd make the trip from UVA area with all the other choices close by there.
Enjoyed the fish tacos. Delicious and large quantity, leaving some to enjoy at home.
We've been here at least half a dozen times in the last year and it has always been good. The food is well prepared and the menu is varied enough that everyone will find something good to eat. We go because they have oysters! They have a full bar and will accommodate requests. Their wine list covers a good set of wines to go with the meal whatever you pick. We've always had good service. Happy hour for cocktails and then dinner is our choice!
Rhett's fish and other seafood is top notch. We enjoy the staff, atmosphere, wine list (short but thorough), and mostly the excellently prepared seafood. Thanks!
Server was great and food was delicious! A small mixup was fixed quickly and made up for in spades!
On Thursday night during the winter months oysters are .75 cents each for raw or steamed. They were good but the shrimp and grits (only available at dinner) are what draws me to Rhett's every time. I have eaten this dish throughout the South and for my money, no one does it better. You get a dozen shrimp! The sauce is outstanding - I always ask for extra and they deliver. It is well worth the $21 cost of this dish. Ask for Joyce and you will have a terrific waitress with a good sense of humor. Highly recommended.
Good not great -- menu was OK - nothing special - our meals were OK but nothing special. I had the crab cake & it was unremarkable. My wife's scallop & crab casserole was good. The highlight of the visit was our server -- very personable & checked on us regularly.
Excellent food and service, nice ambience for conversation. Duck, flounder, and sides cooked to perfection.
The industrial design makes this place a little loud. It's a good place to go but it's pricey. We've been before and always get good service. The shopping center it's in is being remodeled. I'm hoping that Rhetts will be expanding because it is a small restaurant and it would be nice to have more seating that's a little more private.
Food was good as well as plentiful. Service was top rate.
The steak melts in your mouth and delicious and my husband kept talking about how good the crabs tasted. The service was excellent and the waitress was friendly. We will definitely eat there again!
When your dinner is served BEFORE your appetizers there is something wrong. They were apologetic but did nothing to compensate us except not charge us for the $5 cup of soup. The sides, rice and asparagus, on two of the dishes were cold. The waitress was very nice and it wasn't her fault but how does this happen? We are not from the area so don't have to worry about returning.
The rib-eye steak was outstanding and reasonably priced!
Always a good meal and value. Ingredients are fresh, staff is great.
Excellent oysters, very good service from Anna, beyond that, the food was just OK. Our guests really enjoyed the drink menu.
Everyone was very nice but service was terrible
Great experience. Wonderful service (Lynda, I think)
Service was excellent with a very friendly staff. The food was excellent: well presented, generous portions and cooked just right.
Very good value for your money although the wine glass prices were a bit high. Not too many seafood restaurants offer the option of steamed oysters so this was a major determining factor for choosing to dine here and everything was better than expected! The steamed oysters were sweet, my delicious seafood etouffee was so generous that I had to take it home for lunch the next day. My husband enjoyed his catfish dinner but he did not like the sweet tasting salsa from the chips and salsa appetizer. My favorite surprise was that this place has crushed ice in which hardly any restaurants have crushed ice anymore so you better believe that we will be coming back here for more!
Joyce our waitress was excellent! Food was good but slightly overpriced. Loud for someone hard of hearing. Would go back
I have had many versions of shrimp and grits. The ones served at Rhett's were the best that I have ever eaten. All other items ordered were very good but the shrimps and grits stand out from the rest.
A good dining experience. It was our first time. We will be back.
I was visiting my parents and was for seafood. This place didn't disappoint. Portions were large and plentiful! Our server was lovely and thoughtful and creatively ordered our food to allow us to try several items, without having to purchase full-price orders. The fish was fresh and delicious. It's very dimly lit and not particularly fancy, but it was a pleasant experience all around!
This was the second time that we have had dinner at the River Grill. On both occasions the food and service were excellent. we will definitely be dining there again.
This restaurant is located in a strip center on a busy thoroughfare. Their sign said they are expanding and to pardon the dust. It looks like they need the room as they were totally full when we dined. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and service was good, as well. I had salmon which was done to perfection with miso sauce and my wife had fish and chips which was actually listed an an appetizer but certainly well large enough for an entrée. The wine serving was very generous and we enjoyed this restaurant and would recommend it.
Good meal and event. Really good seafood is hard to get in Charlottesville, Va. Rhett's is a little pricey which is ok but quality of food more important. Oysters on half shell half priced but not very tasty.
Great food all the way round. Hamburgers cooked to order, good seafood, steaks and pasta Takes reservations for any size--1------30
Rhett and Kelly do a good job trying to capture a coastal eatery. The food is always good and the southern inspiration is apparent.
We were on vacation and wanted raw oysters. Found Rhett's on OpenTable. We thought it was a chain, but were pleasantly surprised to find out it isn't.
We started out with a dozen raw oysters that were great. The waitress recommended 2 Va. wines that were very good. I had the shrimp plate and my husband had perfectly cooked duck. We finished with pecan pie a' la mode.
Our waitress was very friendly with wonderful ideas of places for us to check out while we were in town.
