Rey's Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I are from out-of-town and were disappointed with one of the area's most highly-rated restaurants especially when price is factored in. The dining atmosphere was extensive, exposed and noisy with little intimacy other than dimmed lighting. The food and service were acceptable but I expected and have received much better at this price point in other US cities. Service was actually too aggressive and intrusive as the minute you finished your plate a waiter swarmed in to take it way. Not a relaxed environment to have a high-end meal and quiet conversation. The menu is not especially creative aiming to please everyone without necessarily excelling in anything in particular such as Cajun. Rey's is overrated. Will not return.
I've been a fan of Rey's for a few years and they never disappoint. Every time I visit Rey's I'm greeted with the friendliest waitstaff , Mr. Rey and flavorful food ! Rey's is my favorite place to eat in the Raleigh, Durham, RTP area !
P.S. The Banana's Foster is to die for !
Was in town for soccer tournament and had a great meal. The staff was super friendly and Rey was working the entire restaurant sharing his warmth and pride as an owner. Would've liked larger shrimp in the cocktail but all was fresh and surf and turf was divine. Crème Brule desert done to perfection. Highly recommend and would visit next time in Raleigh area.
Best steak ever! Literally melts in your mouth. So flavorful. Sides dishes are family style, a tad pricey but delicious! Quiet, semi -romantic setting. Also great for couples dining together. Staff is unbelievably attentive and courteous. The staff even speaks highly of the owner! The owner is always there and likes to check in on your dinner. Very classy restaurant. Definitely a favorite!! Give it a try. You will never regret it!
The food and service at Rey's are always outstanding. Rey was his usual convivial self. However, when I made the reservation, I requested a quiet location, preferably against a wall or in a corner. Also, I specified it was a birthday dinner. Evidently neither of these items were noted by the restaurant. We were directed to a table in the middle of a large room. We requested a more appropriate table and there was no problem with moving to one. No mention was made of its being a birthday event. We weren't asked if it was a special occasion, so we didn't mention it.
Our server, David, was exceptional! He was personal and attentive, without being overbearing. His secondary wait staff were wonderful as well. We loved the atmosphere! The food was good but not as creative as we had anticipated. The pan seared scallops we're wonderful and the coffee was the best we have had at a restaurant! Overall we were very pleased.
The Thanksgiving Lunch/Dinner was good, but not as superior as the usual menu items. It was worth $35.00 per person, but I'm not sure we will do Thanksgiving at Rey's next year. However, we will return for one of Rey's great steaks again! By the way, our server was energetic, happy and positive in a very busy restaurant environment.
This was first dining experience at Rey’s. The service was timely, friendly and professional. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing. The food was deliciously all that it should have been, and the drinks were excellent, as well. It is definitely on my list for as a “go to” dining experience.
Started with the turtle soup and the fried oysters. They were great and a true indicator of rest of the meal. We each had their 8 Oz. filets which were cooked to perfection and served on a very hot plate. A steak knife was included with the table setting however it could have been cut with a fork. We ended the meal with cherries jubilee which were prepared expertly by our attentive waiter at the table.
The wait staff was very cognizant of our relaxed (slow) dining pace and didn't try to hurry us along or up the tempo.
All in all it was great and we will be going back.
First time diners. Celebrating birthdays of our 2 girls and one son-in-law. Found Rey's to really be a special place. Fun began in the Voodoo Lounge with bartenders who were very attentive and entertaining. Then a great meal with waitress Carolyn seeming to be part of the family. Every dish was delicious, perfectly prepared, and delightfully presented. We will return for sure and not need to wait for a special event.
I wanted to like this place.
The calamari were tasty. The creme brûlée was delightful and huge. My waiter was fine - he was there when I wanted and wasn't when I didn't.
Some people might object that some plates were missing as part of the service while other plates weren't timely removed.
But... the prime ribeye was a disaster. The first one was not medium-rare but rather well done. The second one was medium-rare in one area sliding back to medium-well in the rest. Plaudits to the gentleman who checked on me. He apologized and removed the cost of the steak from my bill. However, no preparation would have elevated the steak to mediocre.
My husband and I love Rey's and it never disappoints. The filet is outstanding and the sides are delicious but the Bananas Foster is the absolute best! This is our go to for special event dining! It isn't cheap but is worth every bit of the money you pay for it.
I was disappointed. It is one of the top 10 in open table. The Calamari was excellent. The Caesar salad was good. The ribeye (medium rare) was tough. Not restaurant quality beef? Bread pudding was very good. I also had a side of oysters and they were good but not excellent (probably West Coast oysters). We had some scollops and they were cooked perfectly but had a slight (faint) taste of ammonia which suggested they were on the old side. Service was excellent.
Had a reservation at 8pm for my birthday, for a party of two. We did not get seated until 9:15pm. While waiting at the bar to get seated we did not even get to speak to the bartender for 20 min. After finally being seated we had ordered soup at the bar since we had waited so long, and no waiter came to our table for 15 minutes. At this point I stoped complaining and just wanted to eat my food and leave. Rey does in fact walk around but he couldn't be bothered with my seemingly petty issue. I would not return to this place. I had chosen it because it appeared to have excellent reviews. I hope that others have better experiences than I did.
