Rey's Ratings and Reviews
This was first dining experience at Rey’s. The service was timely, friendly and professional. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing. The food was deliciously all that it should have been, and the drinks were excellent, as well. It is definitely on my list for as a “go to” dining experience.
Started with the turtle soup and the fried oysters. They were great and a true indicator of rest of the meal. We each had their 8 Oz. filets which were cooked to perfection and served on a very hot plate. A steak knife was included with the table setting however it could have been cut with a fork. We ended the meal with cherries jubilee which were prepared expertly by our attentive waiter at the table.
The wait staff was very cognizant of our relaxed (slow) dining pace and didn't try to hurry us along or up the tempo.
All in all it was great and we will be going back.
First time diners. Celebrating birthdays of our 2 girls and one son-in-law. Found Rey's to really be a special place. Fun began in the Voodoo Lounge with bartenders who were very attentive and entertaining. Then a great meal with waitress Carolyn seeming to be part of the family. Every dish was delicious, perfectly prepared, and delightfully presented. We will return for sure and not need to wait for a special event.
I wanted to like this place.
The calamari were tasty. The creme brûlée was delightful and huge. My waiter was fine - he was there when I wanted and wasn't when I didn't.
Some people might object that some plates were missing as part of the service while other plates weren't timely removed.
But... the prime ribeye was a disaster. The first one was not medium-rare but rather well done. The second one was medium-rare in one area sliding back to medium-well in the rest. Plaudits to the gentleman who checked on me. He apologized and removed the cost of the steak from my bill. However, no preparation would have elevated the steak to mediocre.
My husband and I love Rey's and it never disappoints. The filet is outstanding and the sides are delicious but the Bananas Foster is the absolute best! This is our go to for special event dining! It isn't cheap but is worth every bit of the money you pay for it.
I was disappointed. It is one of the top 10 in open table. The Calamari was excellent. The Caesar salad was good. The ribeye (medium rare) was tough. Not restaurant quality beef? Bread pudding was very good. I also had a side of oysters and they were good but not excellent (probably West Coast oysters). We had some scollops and they were cooked perfectly but had a slight (faint) taste of ammonia which suggested they were on the old side. Service was excellent.
Had a reservation at 8pm for my birthday, for a party of two. We did not get seated until 9:15pm. While waiting at the bar to get seated we did not even get to speak to the bartender for 20 min. After finally being seated we had ordered soup at the bar since we had waited so long, and no waiter came to our table for 15 minutes. At this point I stoped complaining and just wanted to eat my food and leave. Rey does in fact walk around but he couldn't be bothered with my seemingly petty issue. I would not return to this place. I had chosen it because it appeared to have excellent reviews. I hope that others have better experiences than I did.
Service was outstanding. Our waiter, Matt, was very patient. We never felt rushed. He was very knowledgeable about the menu. The entire staff at Rey's was attentive and polite. The food was AMAZING. I cannot say enough good things about the quality and taste of the food served. Wonderful place!
It was a special occasion. The food was great. I ordered a salad and it was big. The veal marsala was so good I thought our companion was going to lick the plate. The baked eggplant was not as done as another one likes it usually but was good. The grouper with lemon was really, really good. And I had the filet rare and it was good. The family style sides worked out well, so we could try them all. The scalloped potatoes were the big hit. The spinach was not for me but everyone else liked it, and the asparagus was tender and the sauce very good. We ordered two desserts, the cheesecake and the triple chocolate cake with raspberry. Both were very good. The waitress was so excellent, that my wife wanted to take her home with us. The owner even came around to the table and talked to us.
Many Raleigh area restaurants have promoted themselves as purveyors of New Orleans style cuisine. Few have lived up to their claims. Rey's lives up to their French Quarter claims in both food and decor. They are not Commander's Palace or Galatoire's, but they do come close. I would recommend Rey's with the disclaimer that they are a bit on the pricey side.
We were celebrating our anniversary and had a very enjoyable evening with a delicious meal and attentive service. The crab stuffed flounder and lobster macaroni and cheese were outstanding. We were provided a complimentary celebratory dessert along with a long stemmed rose. Would highly recommend the bananas foster as a delicious, special dessert made table side. Rey, the owner, actually prepared and server our bananas foster and made a point to stop by our table several times. Rey's will probably become our annual anniversary dinner spot.
Had an excellent dinner for my wife's birthday. Her steak was not quite as done as she requested. My 16 ounce ribeye had at least six ounces of fat. The banana foster was out of sight good. All staff were outstanding and the total experience was very good. We'll be back.
Rey's service was impeccable! We arrived 30 minutes early hoping to be seated. They were able to accommodate us immediately, and our servers were very friendly and attentive. The meal was delicious and perfectly presented. I would recommend Rey's to everyone!
We went to Rey's for our Anniversary. The service, food, and atmosphere were all very good. Rey personally came by our table to congratulate us. Our server went out of her way to be friendly and helpful, but did not hover. I strongly recommend for all fine dining occasions.
