Rex's American Grill and Bar Ratings and Reviews
1. Lost/"never got" our reservation for 11 people so no table waiting for us upon arrival.
2. Extremely slow service - took a long time to place our order, an hour for the first plates to arrive and then they had to go cook the dishes they neglected to prepare the first time. The only remotely redeeming aspect was that they comped the dishes that were forgotten.
Management was nice enough but didn't go far enough to correct the issues created by the staff.
My girlfriend and I chose this restaurant because of the menu and because she is a vegetarian with poultry allergies. When we got there they only offered a Thanksgiving buffet which made us a little uneasy because we did not know what had chicken stock in it. We were not aware before hand that the buffet was only going to be the only option. The manager there was quick to tell us what ingredients were in the foods and even offered to make a special Mac & Cheese just for her. We were very thankful for such great service especially on a holiday. I was able to eat everything at the buffet and it was just like eating at home. We had a great experience.
Usually it's a terrific spot. This time not so much, service was super slow -server was great but had way too many tables for one person , he had to cover inside and outside. We waited a very long time just for water, appetizer came out with the meal-with ice cold fries, drinks took entirely too long. Overall not the experience we usually have.
Some folks who recently moved to town had never been to Rex's, so we suggested meeting there for dinner. It went straight to the top of their list of favorite places to eat in town! From the shrimp BLT to the caesar salad with sea bass, the food was superb. Although the weather didn't cooperate with our original plan to sit on the patio with a view of the mountain, our booth inside was comfortable and our server attentive.
Cornbread was outstanding with that caramelized pecan butter. Burgers were the best we had in Steamboat!! I had the Gracie Burger - fabulous!! We had a large group of 12 - service was excellent which is sometimes tough with a large group but it wasn't a problem here.
Been here a number of times - good comfort food in a casual setting
Had the fish tacos which I have to say was not my best meal here- others had the burger (excellent), chicken (really good), mac n cheese (excellent)
Traditionally always solid with friendly services and I like the owners who really are foodies
Andrew, the Supervisor, gave us wonderful service. I am celiac and had several questions for the kitchen to ensure my meal was served gluten free. The waitstaff were very attentive to ensure a safe meal. The menu changes regularly, so if you have an old favorite, it's worthwhile asking if it's still available. I would call the atmosphere 'pub' style.
Ignore the fact it's connected to a Holiday Inn, this isn't bland hotel food. Top notch taste and great value. I had the Chefs special of bacon wrapped scallops. Absolutely great! Chicken fried chicken is off the charts as well. Lot of great food in Steamboat but this is my new favorite for home cooked goodness. Service is adequate but not exceptional.
Glad we made reservations for this Saturday night before Super Bowl because the place was packed. Kyle, our waiter, was personable, informative and efficient. Our party of five enjoyed our entrees. The Shotback Bison was a hit ! The appetizers - breaded mushooms w/ bleu cheese sauce and artichoke dip with fried potato chips were delicious. We didn't care for the New England Clam Chowder - not enough clams - but the lemon garlic dressing for the dinner salad was refreshing and different. The coconut pie served with freshly whipped cream was the perfect way to end a meal. We shared two portions and were very glad we didn't each order our own. We were stuffed! Overall, it was a wonderful and relaxing dinner.I would return here.
Our dinner for four became a group of FOURTEEN and when we called to ask about making such a change on short notice during the Christmas holiday week, the response was "we'll make it work". When we arrived, we had FIFTEEN, and again the restaurant was very agreeable to yet another change in our reservation. Upbeat waiter, good service and good food for a large group of differing ages and taste buds. We'll be back!
We visited Rex's on Thanksgiving 2013 while we were visiting Steamboat for a holiday getaway. We were looking for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and found exactly what we were looking for at Rex's. The food was delicious and the service was top notch. There were so many choices on the buffet and everything was wonderful. It had all the traditional food we were looking for with some great twists to our favorites. Thanks so much for a wonderful Thanksgiving experience!
When we found ourselves far from family and stressed with busy
Schedules we opted to go out for Thansgiving dinner. We selected Rex's since they always get it right. This was no exception ... Everything about our dinning experience was incredible. The food was hot and delicious , the service was great and all were happy! I would recommend this restaurant over and over again.
Traveling through Steamboat Springs, & stopped in at Rex's. Food was fabulous! Service was friendly and excellent! Streak was melt in your mouth delicious! I also ordered coconut cream pie & is was heaven on a plate! It was so good, went bak for breakfast! It was just as great!
It was very busy the night we dined at Rex's. There were 9 of us. Our waitress Tina was very good; however, I thought the hostess was rude to the people waiting in line. That is the first entrance to a dining experience and should be handled positively even if she is overwhelmed with everyone wanting a table.
I had salmon with a salad. The salad had quinoa and green olives. The salmon was very good. My husband had a shrimp BLT with fries. He thought it was very tasty. They have an outdoor patio that has live music on the weekends. Our server was Andrew and we liked him a lot.
This restaurant is very well liked by locals.
