Revolution - Durham - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I was a bit disappointed with the food! The quality of food we've received was way overpriced, one of the dishes came out born and over salty.Other dish was supposed to be pasta and he came out only meet, I would definitely recommend a place for drinks and desserts not food!!!
My husband and I had dinner here last weekend. From the moment we walked in, it took 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us despite multiple wait staff passing by us. That was the first warning sign. When the hostess finally acknowledged us (without any type of apology), we had to sit at the bar for another 7-8 minutes until our table was ready despite arriving on time for our reservations. Second warning sign. From the time we were seated to the time it took the waitress to acknowledge us, another 7-8 minutes. Third warning and we were nearly ready to walk out and head over to Counting House.
The tagliatelle was bland, the fish was way too salty, and the food was definitely a disappointment given the high ratings on OpenTable. We eat out often and can tolerate sub-par service if the food is worth it. This was not the case with Revolution and we won't be coming back.
I have eaten at Revolution each time I've come to town to visit my son, and it has never disappointed. The mussels are an excellent starter and if you are feeling adventurous, try the three course "secret" food tasting with wine pairings. Cool atmosphere and excellent service. I highly recommend you give them a try.
Second time to experience a great tasting menu and wine pairing at this nice and fresh establishment. High quality raw materials and nicely composed dishes accompanied by some interesting and very well selected wines. The excellent staff is very knowledgable and friendly helping make the dining experience complete. We'll be back for sure!
Great service and lovely place. But my take on the food was that I could have made it at home if I had the proper ingredients (and I'm not a good cook). I had the salmon (flavorless) and my husband had the steak (mediocre). We had the prosciutto salad (decent) and the haystack shrimp (salty sauce). Probably will not be back.
Visited Revolution on a Saturday night prior to a DPAC show - 6pm reservation. Not crowded but service was a bit slow but no issues getting to DPAC on time. The food was outstanding. Had the arugula salad and the pasta dish with braised pork meat sauce - just awesome. Also the chocolate cake dessert was tops. Started to get a bit noisy and crowded when we left but that is to be expected at this restaurant on a Saturday night.
Limited menu. However restaurant was willing to accommodate if we needed it as we don't east pork and some of us do not eat shell fish. Interesting combinations. My husband had cauliflower soup; red snapper (which he said was delicious) and apple tart. I had ahi tuna appetizer and the duck tamale appetizer, both of which which were lovely.
Whoever shucked my raw oysters on the half shell left them attached to shell making them awkward to eat. And they were not chilled at all - another miss. Also, the wasabi migniot (sp.?) was not balanced ans had no heat to it. 3 strikes made for a very disappointing app. My Duck Tamale tasted mostly of corn masa. The stuffing proprtion was meger both meager and dry. Another miss made me very disappointed over all in the food on this my 3rd visit to Revolution. Boo Hoo...
We are out-of-towers and had an outstanding dinner a couple years ago. We were traveling with the same couple & decided to return. We were disappointed with the entrees, although the appetizers were okay. We expected the same quality we'd experienced previously. Our server was also less than friendly.
My assessments were very strong 4's. just reserved a perfect score of 5 for perfect & it wasn't quite that. The outside construction that blocked streets did affect business. Many less people eating and in bar area. I was counting on the valet parking and this was not available.
I have dined at Revolution numerous times prior to 2016. Our experience this time was far below what I had come to expect based on great prior visits. The restaurant was not full, yet we waited over an hour for our entreees. The tasting menu was promised to include items not on the regular menu, which was true for the appetizer only. While someone came over and acknowledged our long wait, the waiter made no effort to make this right. We were there for over 3 hours.
This was an early evening reservation before a show at DPAC for a party of 7. The restaurant had no problem sitting 3 of us before the rest of our party arrived. Service was good. Food was very good with a nice variety from a small menu. Many compliments and no complaints from the whole table. This was my third or fourth time here and each time has been good or better. Food is a little expensive, but a good value.
This was my first dining experience at Revolution and it was outstanding! Ivan was our waiter and he was attentive, knowledgable and overall, great. My friends & I enjoyed cocktails, small plates & entree "large" plates each. The mussels and tagliatelle pasta dish were my choice and YUMMY. Would definitely order both again. My friends order shrimp & grits with a steak and ahi tuna & eggplant lasagna. Everyone was very impressed with their food. This restaurant was a perfect place for our evening in Durham -- we walked to DPAC in 5 minutes for the 8pm show!
Sorry to have to call out Revolution but with so many good alternatives these days, I really expect a better experience. We arrived at the very beginning of dinner seating after a matinee at DPAC. Our waiter was friendly but not as engaged as I expected. That's because he was a bartender, and as traffic picked up, our service took a nose-dive.
We waited too long for appetizers, mains, and desserts. the staff finally figured out it wasn't working and we were assigned a real wait person at the dessert course.
I found the prosciutto as well as the haystack shrimp to be wonderfully balanced; i was disappointed that the duck entree was bland. I very nearly sent it back for not being warm enough, but we were there for an occasion, and I didn't want to get all that going. The eggplant (was it?) lasagna was delicious. Other entrees at our table included salmon, and pasta with pork; they were reported to be delicious.
There are plenty of places to eat; some places you want to be NICE. I want Revolution to be NICE, and it was not on our last visit.
The tasting menu has to be the best deal in town. All courses all full-sized entrees and the wine pairings are full pours. All five of our courses were delicious (even though blind--we did not know in advance what we would be getting.) The service is also top-notch. Highly recommended.
This was our second visit to Revolution and it did not disappoint. We ordered several appetizers, all were fabulous. The mussels are highly recommended. We had a variety of entrees. The duck with grits was my favorite but everything was really good. service was attentive and timely. All in all it was a wonderful dining experience. We will return when we are back in May.
My husband and I came here while staying in Durham for our anniversary. However, this is a great place for every day. Great cocktails, amazing food choices, great services. I don't know how I missed this place before but it's now one of my favorites. Highly recommend!
Service and ambience were good. The menu is interesting. The wine list quite extensive but wine we ordered was out of stock. Food quality was considered mediocre by all four of us and ranged from paella to a strips sirloin. Steak was quite grisly and not very tasty. Servers did get us out in time to attend a DPAC function. On balance, fairly expensive for the quality of th food.
