Excellent place. The "Jane" steak salad was great, strawberries and goat cheese with steak medallions. The turkey Lorraine was very tasty. Good value.

Our reservation made with open table was not received by Restauration, but the staff kindly honored it anyway. The food was wonderful, and we were happy they accommodated us.

Dear Restauration-

My husband and I were looking forward to our date night and dinner for weeks!! Hotel was gorgeous! We had high hopes for dinner with you as well.
Our waitress/service, honestly, ruined the evening. She was friendly, but uninformed. She didn't know the menu. The drinks we ordered were unavailable...though she wasn't aware of that (beer from the local brewery, Pulpit Rock). She didn't know basic parts of the meal. She frequently said she'd "be right back", then forgot about us. Other people around us shared the same feelings about her. We heard "I am so sorry", more times than we could keep track of.
Food was outstanding!!! Service was terrible, and that is enough to ruin the experience.
This is an educational opportunity to teach this waitress basic customer service. For example, she delivered our dessert with no utensils. She said she would grab us forks, then proceeded to chat with people at the bar. I got up, after several minutes, and found silverware on a empty table. She delivered our two forks, with our bill, over ten minutes later. She forgot to charge us for our dessert, for which she apologized again.
Hopefully, this helps to explain why I gave you the rating I did. Again, food was amazing. But the impact the service had on us completely outweighed the meal.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Restauration, a place of casual elegance, pleasant and comfortable. Neither the menu nor wine list is exceptionally long, but both offered ample choice . We chose Moroccan duck with couscous and grilled salmon ancho with rice; both entries came with perfectly prepared kale. A bottle of Zinfandel nicely accompanied the meal. Cheesecake- triple chocolate and a lemon - for dessert. The staff is personable, the service excellent. This was our first visit & well worth the trip. We'll be back!

The restaurant was fine, but not spectacular. The food was decidedly under-seasoned. The calamari was unappealing. But the service was great and the ambiance was nice. We don't live there so on a return visit to Decorah we definitely would not return there. It was disappointing to pay $100 for dinner for 2 and be so underwhelmed by the food.

We had a reservation at Hotel Winneshiek for Mother's Day at noon. We were seated right away. We did not have anyone stop at our table for 17 minutes and that was after asking if we could get someone to help us. Our order was taken and after 50 minutes we still did not have our food. I told the manager that we were not going to stay. What we hoped was going to be a really nice Mother's Day turned out to be very frustrating.

Lovely setting inside a historic hotel. Friendly staff with a sense of humor. Lunch menu was extensive enough to offer a variety of choices. Good food, generous portions and modest prices.

We brought two guests with us to celebrate a birthday. They were as impressed as we were and our reactions were totally positive. Our server, Cole, was engaging and very familiar with the menu and was very helpful in making our dining decisions.

The restaurant is a wonderful example of staff working together. Cole was the only server on the floor and when it became busy so that guests might have to wait the general manager appeared and was most helpful. He took our dessert order and served it. Neither of the men appeared to be rushed but maintained their calm and effective relationships with their guests.

The chef, Tom, was highly commendable with delicious offerings always with an unexpected twist. We celebrated our 51st anniversary there last March 29th and will again enjoy the Presidential Suite and several meals at the restaurant. Their weekday breakfasts and weekend brunches are also wonderful. It is not often when one can find some fault with a menu or staff member. It is always a pleasure to be enjoy both the restaurant and the hotel!

Our food was presented attractively and timely. Our server was helpful and attentive. There was a nice menu and a special entree. We both ordered seafood and both dishes were cooked to perfection. How ever, the veggies and sauces were very very salty. We both left those items on our plate.
We would both highly recommend the Iowa Meat and Cheese appetizer . It was excellent.

We were given a "glimpse" of how life was in the years past. The hotel setting, the period of elegance in dining and the gathering of many in groups just sitting and enjoying each other and the conversations. The staff who addressed every need before it was spoken, we had a wonderful experience and plan on making this a yearly experience.

The Iowa Grazer appetizer plate was wonderful, and my filet mignon was one of the best I've ever had! Best of all was the loaded Bloody Mary, real treat, and well made, not too spicy!

We were in town for our honeymoon and asked several locals for ideas for a romantic date night. Our original choice was closed that day so we ended up at Restauration. There were only about three other parties in the place, we almost felt silly for making reservations.
There's a great view for people watching and fresh flowers on the table to add to the romance factor. But the drink menu was longer than the food menu. Very limited options on dinner entrees, and the ones they did have were pretty high priced.
We ordered their BBQ nachos as an appetizers which were the best part of the meal. The walleye sandwich was great but the fries were nothing to write home about. The chicken piccata my wife ordered was plain, tough and lacking in the sauce department. Not worth the money. The service how ever was impeccable, our glasses were never empty and our table was constantly being cleaned. My number one favorite thing about our experience was the bread! I'd go back for that bread alone!

The weekday breakfasts are perhaps the best value in this part of the country. $5.50 Blue Plate Special includes two eggs, hashbrowns, sausage or bacon and wheatberry toast with jelly. The home-made sausage is tasty and generous and their bacon is very tasty as well. Their house made pecan rolls and scones are delicious.

In addition to excellent food prepared in-house and wonderfully rich coffee the service itself is conducted by very well-trained and pleasant personnel.

We had brunch to celebrate our 51st anniversary as well as my 75th birthday and it was wonderful. Dylan, our server, was knowledgeable about how things were prepared and he did an exceptional job of serving us. Chef Tom's offerings were very well prepared, the pacing was wonderful and the whole time was one we want to repeat often.

Dinner menu was excellent with many interestingly prepared foods offered--salmon in parchment, New York strip steak, house staple French Onion Soup. Everything we ordered at each meal was prepared extremely well but always with a little twist of something extra or special. Loads of talent from the kitchen to the waitstaff and bartender. A wonderful experience!!

We made a reservation here because we were booked at the Hotel Winneshiek and knew we'd be tired after a long travel day. Because the restaurant was barely booked, we were sent to the grill room instead and they closed the restaurant. I'm thinking perhaps they sent the chef home as well, because the food was very uneven in quality. First course was a minestrone that was so bad I thought perhaps the waiter might have brought out some soup stock that was being prepared for the next day and wasn't ready yet. Watery broth with a few diced vegetables -- this wasn't like any minestrone I've ever encountered. The main course was salmon with mushrooms -- and the fish and sauce were very good. The accompanying wild rice cakes were disappointing and floury. The kale was cooked nicely with lemon and garlic. Finally, staff brought out a cupcake because it was my birthday -- very nice of them, and it was pretty good. Service was excellent. The Grill Room was full of people having drinks and laughing and hooting up a storm -- not the ambience we wanted when we booked at the restaurant. So, I can't recommend Restauration for dinner, I'm afraid. But I do want to add that the breakfast there the next morning was delicious -- a fabulous cardamon French toast with lingonberry sauce. I'd definitely recommend the restaurant for breakfast! And the Hotel was really great.

We made a reservation through Open Table the night before dining at Restauration. When we arrived at the restaurant we were told by the hostess that we would need to wait for 1 hour before they had a table ready and were redirected to the Tap Room for immediate dining, Unfortunately, the Tap Room was full as well. We were eventually seated in the dining room within 20 minutes. Not exactly sure what the Open Table reservation gained us.

Four of us had a marvelous dinner to celebrated my birthday during an overnight stay at the Hotel Winneshiek while sight-seeing in northeast Iowa. My filet minion was cooked to perfection.The chocolaty chocolate cake made for this occasion was the best tasting and most beautiful cake I've ever had. The staff that waited on us, cooked for us, and sang for us (in harmony!) was outstanding. The ambiance was perfect.

Service was acceptable, wine list was adequate, menu was small but diverse. I was disappointed that my salmon was still soft and cool in the center when served. I was further frustrated when the server stated that the salmon was supposed to be served that way. Cool and uncooked? Sushi yes, salmon au poivre no.

I love this place. I always take special people here for a delicious dinner and/or brunch! The service is AMAZING and I know most of the servers. Taylor, Chris, Katie, and Tami are especially great. Definitely a great place to go for a filling and perfect meal!

Great food that was seasoned perfectly. The plate presentation was a work of art. Good choices for the wine and beer selections. Service was excellent, quick, an attentive. Staff was made aware of the special occasion and they did make this a special occasion. Go early if you want a quiet night. Gets very noisy with the hard floors.

Nice place, good food and service. One of the best and nicest places in miles and worth the drive to enjoy dinner with family. the Walleye and Lamb were very good and the wait staff was great, Dinner timing with salad and dessert was excellent. A nice evening.

We come from Rochester. When I saw that the restaurant was labeled "four star" I suspected a bit of puffery. The ambiance was average but the dinner was exceptional. I had the filet with red wine glaze, one of the best steaks I have ever had. My wife enjoyed her pork chop also. Kudos to Tom the chef. Our server was exceptional also meeting one of my special needs and friendly.

While offering a similar menu, the food at Restauration has improved over its previous incarnation. The wait staff is friendly, but could be more informative about the menu items. The restaurant is open for dinner seven nights a week, which, on some nights, makes it the only choice in town for fine dining. We have eaten here on several trips to Decorah and will certainly return.

We would go back frequently if we were closer but it is worth the travel to eat here. We had fillet and pork chop and they were wonderful. The chop was perfectly cooked to order and served with a lovely peach compote. The fillet was prepared perfectly and had a flavorful mushroom sauce. The vegetables may just have been the best part of the plate. Fresh green beans must have just been picked that day were beautiful, crisp, bright green and lovely served with a medley of other veggies. The services was super. Dessert, chocolate torte,recommended by our waiter, was delicious served with ice cream, creme fraiche and dark chocolate pieces. I had a glass of red wine which was great. Wine list was interesting. A true highlight in dining.

For lunch or dinner, the food at Restauration is worth the drive into picturesque Decorah, IA. We start with a drink and house made kettle chips in The Tap Room, then head to a booth in Restauration for a great glass of wine and a dinner to remember. Steak, seafood, pasta- we love it all. There is a special event of some type every night of the week so check the website. Tuesday evenings in the lobby of the historic Winneshiek Hotel we enjoyed live jazz piano as we finished off peach pie ala mode! The entire staff - restuarant and hotel- is outstanding. We ran into friends coming out after lunch and they raved about the pulled pork sandwich. There is also breakfast 7 days a week as well and we hope to try the Sunday buffet.

I was pleasantly surprised how nice the new Restauration dining room in Hotel Winnishiek is now than in former times. I hear there is a new chef. Good job! The kids meals were well done too.

Perfect place for a family brunch. Not an extensive menu, but delicious food that highlights local producers. Even have a small menu for kids.
