About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
Located in the heart of the Brandywine Valley, this modern American steakhouse is a short drive from Philadelphia, the Main Line or Wilmington. The complete redo of the 300 year old Chadds Ford Inn has created an excellent canvas with which to paint. The cuisine is strictly twenty-first century with an emphasis not only top quality cuts of beef, like the 16 ounce Prime Delmonico, but fresh seasonal seafood, like jumbo lump crab and wild salmon. The comfortable bar beckons you in with a Best of Philly burger and a local draft beer. Creative sandwiches, great happy hour specials and great steaks ensure we have something for everyone. Modern finishes to a historic building create an inviting, hip atmosphere that welcomes all-from tourists to business travelers to local families to private events in one of our many rooms.

Once again Brandywine Prime has succeeded in making our night out a totally worthwhile evening. The food, as always, is excellent and the service remains as outstanding as it always is. Consistency in delivery in all aspects of our dinner is exactly what we have been able to enjoy every time that we make the drive from Wilmington. You can't go wrong when choosing Brandywine Prime to spend your evening

Ordered two of their Wednesday special dishes. Only one came out. Had to wait 15 minutes for other dinner. Potatos were cold. Asparagus not done. Charged for everything. Offered gift card but since we will never go back or recommend, a gift card of no value.

An epic disaster we never would have expected. As a long time client and fan of this once grand old local destination go-to, we were shocked at the precipitous descent into mediocrity this place has fallen to. Beginning with the ambivalent-to-apathetic waitstaff and continuing through subpar courses (the crab dip and pita appetizer was a lone savior) from poorly cut, poorly chosen gristly steaks, to an entree salad that was barely that, to minimally-sized, lukewarm entree sides, we will not be returning. As mentioned, Brandywine prime had always been a fine local eatery we could count on for a great meal, great drinks, and great atmosphere where we have met lifelong friends for catching up, to holding our going away/anchors aweigh party for my son when he shipped off to the US Navy overseas in 2017. We’ve dined post-Covid a couple different times and found it to be hardly the same experience we had always enjoyed but gave the establishment the benefit of the doubt as everybody was struggling to regroup. In recent years we’ve dined mostly in West Chester, Pennsylvania at such great locations from Sedona, to Teca, to the new West Chester seafood kitchen, but figured we would try Chadd’s Ford last night since we all wanted a high-end steak dinner for a change of pace. Wrong decision. We will not be returning. Seems to us that this 300 year-old building is relying on the locale and location in Chadd‘s Ford as a draw for their faithful local restaurant goers and (likely) tourists as well. We will not be counted in that company any longer. We were so disappointed we didn’t even look at a dessert menu. For me, my wife, and son and a $400 dinner tab (including tip) later, we all decided that we needed to do something we have never done and share a *hesitantly* derogatory review, in service of others who would have the same expectation as us and save them a same level of disappointment. Go to West Chester. Go to Cafe Gelato in Newark DE, steer clear of this old joint.

The food was not up to snuff and certainly not worth the price! The mushroom ravioli was sweet and completely lacked salt. And the halibut dish was just meh. Our server needs to find more joy in his job. He was borderline rude, barely answering questions, and had a major attitude. Our cocktails were not good at all. The tastes were unbalanced. Just so disappointed. We were looking forward to our date night there.

Another great meal at Brandywine Prime. 30-day aged NY strip and the salt-crusted baked potatoe are a perfect match. Make sure to try the mushroom tart as an appetizer. Yum!

2nd time we’ve been here. Live 2.5 hours away but when visiting here a must restaurant to dine in. Food is delicious, service is wonderful and it’s right next to our hotel so very convenient. The shrimp cocktail was fresh and the sauce was deliciously spicy. I had one of the specials which was 1/2 lobster tail over risotto. My husband had the filet which was fork tender. Mashed potatoes and creamed spinach ala carte complimented his meal. Dessert vanilla ice cream with kaluha and Bailey’s whipped cream. Definitely a return when we’re in the area again
