Asked many times to call the waiter
A menu with a lot of good ideas, food effort was admirable. Service was pleasant but lethargic. Serving size pretty small, so don't go if you're hungry. Wine list is significant, but pricing was ridiculous. Many of the labels I know, and the mark up was astronomical - like gag-worthy astronomical.
a VERY mixed review. we have eaten at JR in Paris (Etoile) many times and are huge fans of his cuisine (
G d rest his soul). We do not enjoy writing negative reviews, nor are we overly demanding or critical.
First, the food. I chose the prix fixed menu, a steal for it's quality at $59. Began with a leek dish which was
delicious and beautifully plated. Next 2 strips of canard, beautifully presented and possibly the best I've ever had including 11 Mad. Finished with apple tart and ice cream, quite good. Duck accompanied by a glass of Nebbiolo 2014. good choice.
so what could be the problem??
we were greeted and show to our fairly well spaced table. the JR Grill is modern, upscale and very handsome establishment we were immediately asked for our water preference and served a bottle of Badoit. For the next 20-25 mins we were totally ignored. Never asked if we wanted a drink etc nor given any menu (wine, cocktail, dinner). my wife waved multiple times and finally yelled and got the attention of the fellow who took our water order who said he was new, and found someone to attend to us. glass of Champagne and a very nice "boulevardier" cocktail followed. After menus were provided we ordered and our choices were served in an acceptably timely manner. There was no description of our food, a bit unusual for a JR clone. There was no one to take our wine choices, so our glasses did not come until the second course.
We asked for bread. We asked for bread again. we asked a third time until bread was provided after our main course. we asked for butter. we asked for butter again. butter never came!!
the waitstaff appeared young and inexperienced, but worse, not at all concerned with the clientele
We hope this review merits the attention of the staff and manager: such a handsome establishment, such a proud name and tradition, and such wonderful cuisine merits a more professional and caring staff
The cheese souffle appetizer was one of a kind. I've never had anything like it. The branzino and duck breast were very delicious. The duck was tender juicy meat with crispy skin. Not fatty meat. Both dishes were not oily. The branzino came with spinach that had a little wasabi in the sauce and it complimented the fresh fish and sauce very well. Fish was all white meat and shiny meat, meaning very fresh. Desserts were excellent as part of the French cuisine.
Food was very good, portion was perfect for my diet. The service was excellent because they actually read my request through Opentable and took note of it and remembered that it was for a special occasion. Some restaurants don't train their staff well enough to be that meticulous. We ordered all the food together and requested that our 3.5 year old's lobster pasta to be served first and they brought it out really fast. I am happy with everything except that our food took very long but they were aware and apologized. I would definitely recommend this place and go back...
Food is great, and quite reasonable for the quality.
Chef Christophe Bellanca is the right heir to Joël Robuchon. A highly sophisticated French modern cuisine, unpretentious, and closed to perfection. A phenomenal value. Most memorable gastronomic experience in Manhattan in a long long time.
This restaurant has its place in the top five restaurants in New York City.
Nice food but far from our expectations from a Joel Robuchon restaurant.
My wife and I were celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary. This was definitely the right choice. We both had a Pre Fixe menu. Everything was outstanding, especially the cheese soufflé with pumpkin coulis. The pastry came out with a beautiful and delicious complementary dessert to make our evening very memorable.
This more casual restaurant of the group offers the same high quality of food at a more moderate price. It allows one to come on a more frequent basis to enjoy their fine selection of wines and liquors as well. You have the choice of eating at the Bar or at a table. Servers were cordial and accommodating.
Went here with my husband and son for a weekend dinner out and we all thoroughly enjoyed the ambience, delicious meal, wine and playlist. We will definitely go again.
Avocado and shrimp and mushroom veloute appetizers were excellent. Duck breast and cheeseburger entrees also first rate. Apple tart dessert was good but not up to the high standard of everything else. $9 for coffee seems excessive, although it was very good.
overall experience is good. It's strange there were no tips like usually you get compliments from the chef for starters and desserts, otherwise this restaurant has great design, proper service, nice crowd, trendy location
Amazing, great service
Food, Cost performance, Service,Everything great!
I highly recommend this restaurant!
Excellent service from the moment we arrived - door greet and details surrounded our thoughtful meal selections along with wine pairing
I have now been here 3 times. The first was for my husbands birthday in December. It was right after it opened and I have to say it was amazing. The food superb, the service incredible and the atmosphere great. We had brought our then 8 year old son who is accustomed to fine dining and they treated anazingly well. I then went with clients in March and it was still good but the food was not quite up to our first visit. Then just went again with friends and wow it was fantastic again. This time though there were very few tables full which worries me. I know that monseiur Robuchon passed away recently and I so hope that his restaurant will live on! Please eat here as often as your wallet will allow. NYC needs to keep this place alive!!
Great food with recipes by a legendary chef. Overpriced compared to competitors, however.
Very good food and their tasting menus are really worthy.
Good have a better service if they would increase their staff... waiting 15minutes for getting and paying bill is not nice.
Oysters were terrible. Took forever 20 minutes for them to clear our dinner plates. Then asked if we wanted dessert, when we already ordered. Put sparking water in my still water glass. No staff was in the dining room at one point for 5 minutes—for any tables.
Outstanding food and service, and an incredible value. I've been to several other Robuchon retaurants, in both New York and Paris, and the food and ambience of the Grill were equal to theirs.
We grabbed the opportunity to experience the legacy of Joel Robuchon, on the day his obituary appeared in the NY Times. The food (and the drinks) represented him extremely well.
Great food. The $59 prix fixe menu is a good value for the quality of food and service.
This restaurant never, ever disappoints. The prix fixe has got to be the best value in the city for the quality of the cuisine, and the amazing experience it is to dine here!
( And it is with great sadness that I write this review of the restaurant as the Masterchef, Joel Robuchon passed away earlier today, 8/6/18. May his spirit live on through L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon all over the world.)
I love the food, service, and ambience.
Great place to meet a friend for a conversation.
It was our first visit to LE GRILL and,we had a very delicious and pleasant dinner.
The most memorable dishes they were! Thank you so very much.
Beautiful decor, dark rich ambiance. Not a large menu, but varied to meet many different taste preferences. Service is second to none, very attentive without being intrusive. They do take their food seriously. Their 3 coruse pre-fixed is a nice choice for a sampling the menu.
Loved the staff and recommended great wines that complimented the food.
Delicious food, great service and prices fair. We started with the shrimp in avocado and main course of the steak. Every moment of the meal was thoughtful, well serviced and tasty. Highly recommend and as I understand it the full Atelier experience is much more pricey. For $59 dinner prix fixe you can’t go wrong here!!!
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. Any moderate- to serious-minded foodie should try this amazing restaurant by famed multiple-Michelin-star chef Joel Robuchon.
Excellente soirée, serveur très sympathique, et cheeseburger inoubliable!
Not much difference from the restaurant, same delicious food, great service, and great atmosphere. Very pleasant and interacting waiters. Love that place no matter which room to seat 👍🏻👌🏻
Great as expected. Robuchon gets it.
Excellent attentive service.
Great accessible menu. Competitively price with other restaurants on the level.
The food was very good, with nice extra touches of theatre by way of presentation... the wine list is exhaustive ...
This was another excellent experience from beginning to end. The food was awesome and Victor brought over a sample of a new type of roll that was freshly baked. Love this restaurant and the staff, who are so gracious. See you soon. Thank you!
Great restaurant for having awesome food and great service! Try the Pomme purée, it’s sublime!
Wine sommelier was superb and his guidance greatly appreciated. Food was paired perfectly with wine for the occasion.
We enjoyed this experience and food as much as we have enjoyed dining at Atelier de Robuchon. Menu is limited and each item is a dish the restaurant has perfected.
Relaxed, accommodating and comfortable service, in a gracious and elegant dining room. The cuisine is inventive, and its presentation is top notch. Highly recommendable.
Everything was perfect, just as you’d expect from a Robuchon restaurant...
