this restaurant used to be good, no longer! aaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
We had never gone to Nico's for dinner before. The bar scene was quite active, so service was a little slow but knowledgeable and helpful. We had a good dinner and a good time.
This is one of the times I wish I could give 3 1/2 stars - the food was fine - nicely cooked, decent flavors, but nothing popped, or was particularly interesting (the tiny bit of tobiko on the scallops was hardly noticeable in terms of flavor, for instance). So fine, if a little pricey, if you’re in the neighborhood. We enjoyed our dinner, but are unlikely to go back, given the options here.
Went here for dinner before a show. I had the scallops which were served with risotto and my friend had the steak. Both dishes were very good. We also had the ahi tuna appetizer and finished with the lemon cello cake. When ever in Berkeley will difinately return.
great niegbohood gem and very nice and quiet...At Last!!
My burger and fries were served cold. It took 30 minutes to get our first round of drinks and we never got our second round.
We were looking for a new place to try and found this gem. Had an early reservation (6:30) and were seated quickly. Restaurant was not busy but as the evening went on it was packed, but still never felt rushed to leave. Food was excellent although the menu was a little limited, everything was just perfect for my birthday celebration. We will directly go back again.
The food was awful (an omelet). We could not eat it.
Great service. The double cut pork chop with green onion apple butter is the most incredible
Pork chop I’ve ever had!
We had outstanding dishes and a lovely bottle of the Rose bubbly on the patio to celebrate an anniversary. Everyone had a love, delicious, relaxing time. Thanks.
Late brunch with delicious food and speedy service. Seared ahi tuna and veggie crepes were perfectly prepared and presented.
I highly recommend this restaurant
Everyone enjoyed their dinner. Mine was perfectly cooked salmon stuffed with crab!
Nico's is much improved from a few months ago. Imaginative cocktail list.
Great food and great service, very enjoyable!
Service slow, but friendly. Food was level of roadside diner.
Good food. Only one server and at times was not efficient. Don’t like the mandatory tip placed on our bill for a party of 6.
From the cocktails, to the appetizers, main course and dessert, a delight throughout. Delicate preparation with lots of flavor and elegance. A treat!
My friend and I needed a decent, local restaurant to dine. I went to OpenTable and found this restaurant. It had favorable reviews, so I thought I’d give it a shot and book a reservation.
We both enjoyed the food and the vibe. We must have really liked it a lot because we practically closed the restaurant down. Fortunately, the staff was friendly and didn’t give us dirty looks or kick us out for staying there so late.😀
Arrived late. Great food and service. View of Bay from patio.
So I guess we lucked out. There weren't a lot of patrons in the restaurant. They gave ua an amazing meal for 4. Everything on the menu was spectular!
Food and drinks were delicious
Great experience, and very happy it's in our neighborhood. Will definitely be back!
We had The Chicken breast and the scallops both were very good.
Great restaurant and I am looking forward TO RETURNING SOON. THE BOOTHS especially nice and they are very comfortable. The noise level is fine. I asked the waiter to turn down the music which he did. We will be coming often to this fine restaurant.
I have been to Nico's twice and would love to go back soon. I really like the food. The service could be improved.
THERE WERE 11 OF US, THE WAITER WAS ATTENTIVE, IT WAS EARLY EVENING WHEN WE WERE THERE SO IT WASN'T OVERLY BUSY WE ALL AGREED THAT THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS.
Quite simply maybe the worst meal I've ever had at a restaurant. Would've been better off going to McDonalds. First of all, brought out warm Prosecco which should've been the first hint. Second was on a nice day with outside seating, no one was there.
Food brought out wasn't hot. It was disgusting and ended up eating about 1/3 of it. For some reason, they steam Brussel Sprouts which were covered in some awful sauce. Octopus app tasted frozen/very old. Put some sort of Au Jus sauce on the Filet Mignon which is always a red flag.
On top of all that, the prices were extremely high. $25 for awful, stale pasta dish we got? Wow. Only thing that was OK was Chipotle Mac and Cheese.
Avoid this place at all costs.
Easter Sunday. The food was very good. The service was a little slow.
Hostess and waiter were very pleasant. We had party of 6 and were in the back area. Cooks seemed to be yelling at each other a lot and we were there for almost 3 hours. We got a little hangry and didn’t understand why everything took so long. I want to emphasize that our waiter was not the problem. He gets 5 stars.
I'm told its usually busy, but the Friday night we went was rather quiet. We dined as a group and tried several appetizers and entrees. The food was excellent, in particular the seafood choices. The service however was not up to par, especially given it was such a slow quiet night. The waiter was inattentive and although we wanted more drinks we never got the opportunity to order them. We didn't even get water refills toward the end. Again, great food, so definitely good to stop in for a nice meal. Hopefully the service mishaps was a one off.
Many items were not available on the menu and the advertised special (corned beef) was not available. Meat was nicely cooked and very good but the vegetable and salad side dishes were poorly executed, and several were way too sweet. There is no vegetarian entree on the menu but they did offer a pasta dish with vegetables which was good. Overall the prices were too high for the quality level. Beer selection was not that great. Wine was good. cocktails OK.
Had Sunday lunch. Place was quite empty... for a reason. Food had serious issues: taste was below a weave, dishes arrived late, components were missing, and inside of the fried chicken was fridge cold. Our server did her best to handle the situation. But overall a really bad experience.
Great place. Second time we’ve dined here, great on both visits.
This was very disappointing.
We arrived for our 6:30pm reservation on Monday evening to be told they were out of everything we wanted to order. No salmon for either of their salmon dishes, and no pork chops.
We left and walked to Saul’s Delicatessen.
This was a special date with my husband and the restaurant was hit and miss. We asked for a booth and were seated right across from a door that patrons left open brrrr. I wanted a cocktail and they were "out" of the two that I requested. My husband ordered the NY steak "medium rare" and it came back medium -done. Very little pink. Disappointing. The scallops were heavenly, as was the risotto. The romaine salad and pork taco appetizer were also excellent. The waiter was very accomodating and checked up on us a lot, without being intrusive. Overall, we would go back, but would hope for a bit more attention to quality for all of the dishes as well as making sure that booth was protected, and/or the door kept shut!
An excellent dinner but there was only one server and we had to ask for water more than three times. The food was outstanding! The service when he was available was great. And the feeling in the restaurant was warm and welcoming.
Service was just ok. The presentation of the salad was uninspiring and the lighting needs to be turned out about three levels.
Food was pretty good, not great. Probably wouldn’t rush back
