Pesce e Riso
Chef Lin is a skilled sushi chef who fell in love with Italian cuisine while training with an Italian chef in Tuscany. Pesce e Riso means “fish and rice” in Italian, which are the building blocks of Japanese cuisine and lend themselves beautifully to Italian cuisine.
At Pesce e Riso, diners will find familiar Italian flavors with distinctive Japanese influences in a friendly, intimate space.

This place was such an amazing find. The food was so so so good. Everything we tried, antipasti, primo, dessert... Service was excellent. Walked 3 km to this place and so glad we did. Their arancini and tuna tartare were fantastic. Also, the risotto and the pappardelle. tiramisu also excellent. can't say enough!
I love Pesce e Riso. It is my go to spot to bring out of town guests. The fusion of Italian and Japanese is delicious and interesting. The staff is super friendly and the service is always great. My favorite is the Emilia roll!
We have been to this place twice and loved the food both times. The juxtaposition of Japanese and Italian can sound odd but the staff are great at explaining and the food is delicious. We loved the wines we had a as well. We sat at the bar this visit and were waited on by the manager I think. He was knowledgeable and professional. The place was very quiet, as in no one else was there while we dined. It was a Tuesday but I hope they are able to stay in business with quiet nights like this, Please go!!
Parking was lousy but last time it was easy, we should have taken an Lyft I guess.
It is really worth your time to visit and eat!
Service was very attentive — they’re clearly excited and proud of their innovative offerings.
Fantastic merge of Japanese and Italian cuisine. The chef has such rich and deep understanding of the Japanese cuisine and applied it to Italian fundamentals. I'd recommend this place for fans of Japanese food rather than Italian to look for the subtle japanese elements in dishes like pappardelle or the sauce for tuna tataki. Risotto was too salty for our taste.
Very interesting menu combining Italian and Japanese influences. Very creative with wonderful flavors. We were fortunate to arrive early and sit in the window. As it became more crowded, the noise level was very high. Service was very informative but rather slow. Nonetheless a very satisfactory experience!
The new fall menu is very interesting cavatelli with pork sugo and zucchini is amazing . My girlfriend and i we noticed a very nice change in the ambiance especially the music selection . Excellent service provided by Marco ( he fold my napkin once i went to bathroom, very nice detail..) and excellent food as always. Keep growing guys !
We tried the new menu , Tuna Tataky with Palermo sauce was outstanding ! Stripe Bass Crudo out of this world . Great service and ambience as always
Try it! The experience was wonderful! We have been here several times, they change menu seasonally. This time they just released the new menu, love it!!! we had prosciutto with shisho pepper, and salad, so amazing, love the miso & anchovy dressing! for main course I had the yellowfin tuna tataki, so delicious! definitely gonna come back more often.
This restaurant is amazing!! We came across it and thought it looked cosy, went online, loved the look of the menu so booked and what a great find! The owner was very friendly, as were the staff and the food was out of this world! Go go go
We had an wonderful time the food was excellent. I especially liked the creative Asian/Italian infusion concept. First delicious appetizer to appear was the tempura misto nice fresh fish beer battered, and yummy vegetables, with aioli sauce. A must order, and not at all greasy. Our main entree was a mushroom parppardelle that had shitake, trumpet and beech mushrooms with a delicate lite sauce, that was so perfect. The best dish was a very fresh chrashi that had tamago, trout and ahi tuna this dish this was amazing served with a lite ponzu sauce. Any foodies dream!
I have to mention the great staff that were knowledgable and friendly, especially Marco. A must visit the next time you are in North Beach.
P we had a nice Albarino for $42, which is also nice for North Beach once one rises above the pasta and pizza circuit.
Originale combinazione di sapori mediterranei e giapponesi, un esperienza gastronomica che vale la pena provare.... peccato solo per l’eccessivo rumore!
Surprising combination of Italian and Japanese flavours, ingredients are superbly blended to generate a tasting experience which one should try! Only downside is the excessive noise.
Wonderful blend of two of my favorite cuisines.. Fun and unusual dishes yet recognizable and delicious. Place was packed and energetic but the service led by Luca was warm and welcoming. I think we were the only tourists but we felt at home . Although the wine and sake list is somewhat small , the wines are a good value and pair well with the menu..
Unusual combination of Italian and Japanese influences.
I give the restaurant five stars for creativity. Unfortunately, most of the dishes really don't work. The mushroom pasta was outstanding, but none of the other dishes were that tasty. They certainly were creative....arugula salad with cooked, cooled daikon; sushi wrapped with proscuitto instead of nori, etc. But for us, it just didn't taste that good. Needs umami! or more olive oil or something. Best part was gazing out the window at the North Beach street and all the craziness. Service was slow. Had an excellent glass of wine. Beer was good and server knew how to pour.
My husband and I went last night to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant is very small so I recommend making a reservation. There is only one window table, so if you want it you need to reserve it. The service was impeccable! Our servers were wonderful and more than accommodating of all of our requests. They even gave us a complimentary glass of champagne at the end of our meal and a birthday card signed by all of the staff!!! The food was excellent as well. Definitely recommend and will be back the next time we are in SF.
One of the best Italian food I’ve tried. Literarily every dish we ordered was not a disappointment. Everything tasted so fresh and the service was great, really like the interior and atmosphere. We definitely come back!
Great food, had the Branzino as special of the day and it was excellent . Trout carpaccio and Arancini the best . Great service in a nice and vibrant ambience
absolutely loved this dining experience! not only was the food fantastic, the service was spot on and made our experience the best. they respected the timeline we gave them (had a show to get too) and the dishes came out delicious and quickly. we came a bit on the earlier side, but loved that the restaurant wasn’ loud. a must try is SF. the italian- japanese combination is an absolute winner!
A must try! Luca was fantastic at making us feel welcome and describing the concept of the restaurant (Italo-Japanese!!) and menu. We loved every dish we tried and the wine list was really great too.
We will be back often!
We had a great dinner at Pesce e Riso recently. The menu is very creative and original. Everything was very good. The service was great. It was the perfect spot for a nice, low-key double date in North Beach.
Really good idea and was really enticed by the concept.
Food was great but could have been way better considering the opportunity.
Service was awesome but was thrown off by the ambiance.
Really intense edm at an Italian/Japanese bistro on a Thursday night when it’s not even half full.
Also, someone was on their laptop working on a nearby table .
Food was inventive. Italian with an Asian twist. Pastas were fresh and delicious, but only gabe it 4 stars because of the watery strange tiramisu. Service was slow even though it wasn’t busy. Overall a good meal.
Ate here last night and it was excellent! Interesting take on Italian with the Japanese flair but not overwhelming to overtake the true taste of the Italian dish. Really fresh fish, quiet atmosphere and excellent service. We were very pleased with this restaurant and look forward to returning!
Peace e Rios was a great experience right from the moment we walked in - incredibly friendly and thoughtful staff, pleasant and unpretentious environment - and every dish innovative and perfectly prepared. This is a really exciting and thoughtful fusion concept. Sometimes fusion food can be contrived - but that was not at all the case. Instead each dish was refreshingly simple but excellent - all the way though to dessert. Our waitress was wonderful - friendly, fast, and smart - she really enhanced our evening. It was a great discovery and we are excited to return soon!
Good meat and good rissotto. Excellent service
What a find. Everything about our visit to Pesce e Riso was terrific — service, ambience, good standard Italian cooking and some really creative, delicious fusion cuisine. I highly recommend this lovely spot.
The food here is super fun and creative. Pretty much every dish puts a Japanese spin on Italian cuisine. What I like about the menu is that it's unique enough for "foodies" without coming off as trying too hard.
Also has a great ambiance, great service and is reasonably priced!
Pesce e Riso is the perfect example of how fusion cuisine can create something magical. I you go you really won’t regret it!
Outstanding .....delicious north beach gem!
Luca the mgr was welcoming and our server Leslie was wonderful!
Food was outstanding. Spicy tuna roll, Bronzino oysters, vegetables and the key lime pie was just like it tastes in Florida! Highly recommend and when
come back to San Francisco we will be back!
Everything’s fresh! Good quality. Interesting combinations of Japanese and Italian plates. Excellent wine list. Good service.
For the kind of quality on offer, the noise level makes conversation impossible so the dining experience is basically yelling or silence.
Will north beach remain a party place or an older adult residents neighborhood? We would think twice before going there again given this problem. No fault to any one. Different ways of having a good time.
Great service and interesting food. About 20% too expensive though
Great fusion cuisine, surprising but delicate mix between Japanese and italien. Fusion food like it doesn't exist anymore, with a perfect harmony and balance between the different tastes. Friendly staff and great ambience as well in this tiny Nob Hill restaurant.
Definitely a great finding in the large San Francisco dining scene!
Incredible food! Very personal energetic service.
The overall experience was absolutely perfect. The food was delicious, the service was so personable, and the ambiance was so intimate and romantic!!!
Really interesting food concept (Japanese/Italian fusion!) and everything works together very well. Solid sake and wine selections as well! Nice enough for a date, but also casual enough for a hangout :) Highly recommend this place.
Everything was incredible!!!!!!
The only bad thing is how noisy it can get.
Good sound panels would make it perfect.
My husband and I enjoyed every dish that we ordered. The chef is onto something very special by creating Italian dishes that are infused with a perfect hit of Asian flavor. It is a challenge to find parking in North Beach, but the fine food and friendly service at this restaurant was worth the effort. We will be back!
Great food, great ambiance and friendly service. Recommended, especiallly for dates.
