Waited 50 minutes for soup and they weren’t even busy. Drinks took a sold 20 minutes. The place is very stylish but not worth the wait for average food and service that was barely interested.
food was great, but for the price it was very disappointing... gaspatcho soup was literally less than a shot glass (really yummy, but I would not count it as a meal or as an appetizer), and the prime rib steak was less than a spoon size on your plate... great food, but for 150$ a head you expect to be at least NoT hungry afterwords (ideally at least a bit full...)
Waiter forgot our order more than once
Expensive for tiny portions of imaginative but not especially tasty food. Duck confit did nothing for 2 or 3 tiny Chinese dumplings (@$12). Duck liver mousse with a small sourdough bread loaf was best, but when I asked for some butter to go with the bread, I was charged $5 extra. Pleasant room and excellent service.
There were a lot of interesting concepts the restaurant presented but ultimately most of them flopped and didn’t come together to form a cohesive experience.
The beef tongue pastrami was surprisingly delicious but at the end of the day still just pastrami and didn’t make up for the exhorbant costs of the other items.
Everything was outstanding & I enjoyed my dinner even more when the “rap” music subsided.
One of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. Service was truly awful. Dining room was half empty and drinks took quite a while to arrive. Food started arriving before the drinks. Food was very hit or miss. Hits include the beef tongue and the bread (bread is apparently made in house, but if bread is the best thing you have you should be ashamed). Misses were the duck liver mousse and the tomato salad (kind of our fault for ordering tomatoes so late in the season). We waited a considerable amount of time for the food even though we ordered everything at the same time. Would highly recommend that you skip this restaurant.
Absolutely loved Gibson. We reserved the Prixe fix dinner in front of the kitcchen exposition. It waas enlighteningand entertaining to see the kitchen profesionals in their element and making extraordinary concotions. Myseanean elf and my wife don't consider ourselves too gastronnomically curious but this place really had some great food that was waaay outof our comfort zones and it was outstanding. It was our anniversary and it was a perfecct venuew for sucha speccial occasion. Thank You Gibson, You guys really killed it that night.
Restaurant was closed for the night.
No reason provided.
OpenTable app wrongly allowed us to make reservation.
Waste of a night.
cocktails were great, food was slow
We ate here because we thought the decor would be special, but it wasn't. The food was fantastic, though. Service also outstanding. We had a great time.
The moment you walked into the restaurant, you noticed a big difference from the outside world. It’s unfortunately situated in the corner of mason and eddy st, where it can get a little sketchy, but don’t be dissuaded.
The restaurant has a beautiful decor, elegant ambiance, and the service was attentive and kind. The portions for the hors d’oeuvres are quite small for the price, but that aside, I thought the the main course was well-portioned and fair-priced.
The dry aged beef was fantastic. We ordered a lot of different hors d’oeuvres for the three of us, and they’re phenomenal.
Definitely will come back again. Beautiful place, and great food.
Super friendly staff and creative food and cocktails. High end experience at a good value.
Portions were tiny. Server didn’t know what was on the tasting.menu. Disappointing service and quality for not a cheap dinner.
If you want good food and drink with great service, Gibson is your place.
Absolutely phenomenal experience! The tasting menu was incredible: every single dish impressed with flavor and originality. The staff also really made our night: they gave us extra tastes of the wine and offered us lots of delightful complimentary goodies. Will be back!
This is an excellent restaurant. It is only limited by its location, location, location. The marketing needs to bring this restaurant to the attention of a very large “foodies” population in SF. The service was almost perfect: attentive and not intrusive. Food presentation was aesthetically dramatic. Food quality was unquestionably high. Innovative mixing of spices in cocktails and dishes weren’t always to my taste, but interesting. No single dish was disappointing. I will pass the word and definitely return. The restaurant decor, Art Deco, is stunning. I can’t believe it doesn’t have lines to get in. It will.
The food was fine, but everything was very expensive. They seemed to be going for trendy food and the food tasted fine, but be ready to spend a lot to fill up with their small plates.
Overall I was expecting a hidden gem based on the reviews and it was a lead balloon. Service was poor, which was surprising because their were only 10 people in the whole restaurant. Food wasn’t bad but wasn’t worth the cost. Overall it feels like it may have been a good restaurant a few years ago but was a clear miss this night.
This was my second time to Gibson, and it impressed as much this time as it did te first. Get the Tasting Menu.
If you’re looking for SF’s next hottest restaurant before it becomes the hot restaurant, Gibson is it. Hands down one of the best and most creative meals I’ve had in years in San Francisco.
Everything we had was world class: juicy chicken “nuggets” with caviar and egg yolk (!!!), BBQ lamb dumplings in one of the most amazing broths we’ve ever had, smoked trout with home made farmers cheese on a delicious rye crisp, beef tongue pastrami, melon fatoush with two kinds of mint, and a absolutely tantalizing dry aged beef with “green” polenta.
They’re doing some amazing things with food (and cocktails) here. Definitely some much needed new lifeblood in the San Francisco culinary scene.
Wonderful experience from the bar to the dining floor! Exquisite cocktails and cuisine to delight the senses, with excellent and friendly service from all members of the staff. I would definitely return and recommend Gibson highly.
Tables for four people on the patio are a little bit small.
The experience started out positively. I was quickly sat, greeted, and offered water. I even shared a laugh with the server. After my husband and I ordered, though, things went downhill. Some of the food was delicious, while other things (like the single egg we each ordered) were totally bland. For the prices, the serving size of every dish was small. Worst of all, though, we were totally forgotten about — so much so that our bottle of wine wasn’t delivered to our table until the last course. We asked to cancel the wine, but it was served anyway. We received $30 off the bottle of wine, but we didn’t finish it so that really wasn’t enough. Overall, it was over-priced and disappointing.
Ambiance was nice on entering. Four of us chose the tasting menu. Starters were nice. Then 40 plus minutes later we got our mains. The duck was dry and cold. Steak was same. Waiter took back dishes and did offer us a round of drinks. Duck came out pretty good. No steak dish came back. Got cookies for dessert with some sorbet. After a promising start a very disappointing meal to be sure. No apologies but we still like our server.
Vastly overrated fussy food with vey small portions for the cost.
Lovely atmosphere, excellent service, excellent food and one incredible value.
Loved the artisan cocktails!! Cool atmosphere and interior design. Appetizers were amazing!! Early seating and although appetizers were timely, the entrees took a long time to be delivered maybe due to the restaurant filling up? We would definitely go there again for the appetizers, cocktails, ambiance. Maybe not a good choice for before a theatre performance. Friendly welcoming staff.
We thoroughly enjoyed. Bread service was incredible. Great service. Go!
This restaurant is outstanding! The tasting menu is a must - definitely pair it with their cocktails!
Went on a Thursday night with high expectations at 8:30pm. First sight: completely empty. Felt optimistic based on reviews and did the tasting with wine pairing - food was rushed, extremely bland, wine pairing was not paired or timed at all. Ended up leaving half way through dinner... do not recommend.
We had the coursed meal and it was impressive. Great price point and delicious food. Would eat here again.
Food was good but very predictable - modern French / international fare. Tiny tasting portion even when ordering off the a la carte and we went on a Monday night there was almost no one else...
The food is creative and well prepared and presented. Service was professional although not particularly warm. In fact, the only real complaint was the terrible loud rap music being played.
No idea why a fine-dining restaurant would want to insult its customers with such raucous noise.
The Gibson is a fantastic find! The tasting menu, reasonably priced, is unreasonably delicious and inventive. If you have the opportunity to pair it with the craft cocktails, you're in for one of the best meals of your life. Bring your most discerning foodie friend and watch their eyes light up with delight as each artistically composed dish is ceremoniously brought table side. You'll feel like you're eating among the cherubs wearing Calvin Klein undies in the fresco above you. HIGHLY recommend!
I loved everything about Gibson. The cocktails were tasty and interesting, the food was delicious, the decor was cool (check out the ceiling mural) with tango playing. Every dish we had was different and so tasty. Highly recommended!
The menu was an interesting mix of flavours that were slightly outside conventional menus. Flavours worked well together. The quality of ingredients stood out and were fresh and nice flavours. Something different but very enjoyable
This was my second time in Gibson - the first time we were shocked that there is such a superb restaurant in that neighborhood and that we were able to get a table last minute. I chose it for my second time as a slam dunk to get tasty bites and classic and creative cocktails in an elegant, Art Deco-ish, setting before our play in Orpheum. Did not disappoint again. The staff was attentive and each bite was a delight! Will come again!
This was my 4th time at Gibson. Super cool, modern restaurant with very warm service and excellent food. Very well executed dishes using local, seasonal ingredients. One of my favorite entrees here is the the duck. I’m usually not a big fan of duck, but their version is worth getting. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned and flavorful. Cannot go wrong with their bread with optional dips/spreads and appetizers either. Everything I’ve tried have been great. I’m not a sweets person so didn’t try their desserts but I may have to next time given how well executed all other dishes are. By the way, do not miss their cocktails. Again, very well crafted, balanced and sophisticated. This place will be perfect for dates, business meals or just a get together with friends. It’s relatively quiet here, but not dead quiet, making it a great place for a meal and conversation. It’s not busy here (yet), mostly i think due to the location, but the word will get out soon. It’s great food at reasonable prices and not a fussy place to dine at, a combo that I find is getting more rare by the minute in SF.
The food was very good however the service was not. Not sure I would run back to this restaurant.
