Our waiter was terrific especially when he knew we were in a rush (we had 30 mins to order and eat.) The really disappointing experience was with the booking/reservations. They clearly took too many reservations and were not managing the volume/diners. Our reservation was for 6:15 (to get a show), we arrived at 6:10 and finally got seated at 6:40. I think we were seated because I was (pleasantly) persistent and stood in front of the host stand. There were crowds of people asking about table status and they just said they were behind and oversubscribed. It’s ridiculous though because 1) they know people go there before going to Lincoln Center performances, 2) they know people are in a rush, 3) it’s an experienced, chain restaurant. They should have measures in place (e.g. table time limits during certain hours) or not take as many reservations during this time as it puts the hosts in a terrible position. Very aggravating for all.

I made a reservation for 6:15 because I had tickets for a show at Lincoln Center. When we got there the entire front of the restaurant was filled with people who were waiting for their 6pm reservation and earlier. I had to leave and get a sandwich because it seemed like the kitchen would be running behind too. I have eaten there before, and other Smith locations as well, I can't imagine when or why I would go back. The next time I want to be in a crazy crowd of unhappy people again I'll just ride the subway. Actually, I took the subway there and it was a much better experience.

Reservations made for 6 pm. Waited to be seated until 635. It was a s-show…30 people waiting. Once seated, it was a delight. They hurried our food order as we had a show to catch at 7:30. Lincoln center location. Too stressful by far and will not go back.

The food was very good. We did however, have to wait about 15 minutes for our reserved table as it was crowded and there were many event going on at Lincoln Center. When I and another women mentioned to the young person at the front reservation desk that we had a show, her reply was a sarcastic, "yes, we all have a show." We did get seated and had to wait a while for a drink and food order to be taken. While the food was very good, the glass of white wine I ordered was warm, not chilled, and in a very small glass. At a cost of $18, this was disappointing. The wait staff was pleasant but harried. Our waiter did not know anything about a beer my husband asked about. I probably won't return and cannot recommend this place.

We had a reservation and were seated immediately which is a first for this location. Usually there’s a wait even if you have a reservation. Unfortunately we were seated by the door which was constantly opening and closing thereby letting in cold bursts of air making dining uncomfortable as we had to keep our coats on. We asked for another table but none was available for at least 20 minutes. In retrospect, we would have been warmer if we had dined outside under the heat lamps. Food was good and the server was fine.

We had a show at Lincoln Center and needed a place to dine before our entertainment. The staff was outstanding. They originally seated us at a table that would receive a gust of very cold air every time the front door was opened. We requested to be seated at another table. The staff without hesitation seated us at the next table that was free. The staff was extra friendly. We started with the Crispy Sesame Calamari. We both liked the way the calamari were seasoned. Very tasty. We both then enjoyed the Grilled Chicken sandwich. This restaurant in very good.

A return to The Smith this time, dining indoors. Our seat was tight (tables for two on either side very close to ours necessitating moving of said tables when a patron needed to get up.) More distressing was the constant draft of cold air upon us each time the restaurant doors opened. Surely this could be ameliorated without too much trouble. We are hopeful!

We were very disappointed with our experience. We made a reservation weeks in advance, but still ended up waiting 30+ minutes for our table. We sat less an a foot from two other couples. The doors were open during our entire meal blowing in the 40 degree air from outside. The restaurant was over crowded, too loud and not worth the price for the experience. Our food came our quickly and was delicious, but we were very disappointed with the overall experience.

You could never go wrong with The Smith -- a true NYC staple of American fare. Don't expect much from an atmosphere perspective unless you're sitting at the bar, but that's not a bad thing! The real win is the delicious food, and good variety of cocktails.

Customer service 0! I made a reservation for my parent’s anniversary and wanted to take care of the bill. I called 7 times for two days- no resell service. Finally the manager walked up to the table and told my parents their child wanted to pay and they could t get in Touch with me. Made a mess out of the whole dinner after they called and told me they would do their best to make sure my parents had a great dinner:) so… food was okay, I always enjoyed the ambiance but that’s about it.

The Smith is still a consistently decent meal. However, the service was less then and the place is crowded and noisy. Never got the bread we asked for twice and two drinks we ordered were not good. And the free frizzy water tasted like soap. Food is consistently good and the s'mores dessert the best in town.

The Smith is a perfect dinner location for events at Lincoln Center. The food is consistently excellent, the staff is great, and the vibe is noisy and lively. The salads are great, the chips with blue cheese fondue are decadent, and the entrees hearty. Our go-to restaurant for events at LincolnCenter.

The staff was excellent! It was very (very) busy but the people seating were accommodating and calm - in the midst of many adults with children going to the Nutcracker across the street. We sat outside, which was fine, it wasn't too cold and there were heaters. I still can't understand designing a large restaurant with no effort to dull the noise, even just a bit. I had a salad that I actually don't think was good value. Not because it was bad but because it was small and mostly lettuce with a tiny bit of cheese and nuts. However, my friends ordered regular and vegetable burgers that were generous. I will go for that next time as I will be back!

It was my 40th birthday and this pretty much ruined it. Friday night before the nutcracker. The place was so loud we couldn’t even talk. We were sat at the very last table by the handicap bathroom almost wedged against the drink station. My pasta was uneditable. Wasn’t cooked. Rubber disgusting. My espresso martini had grains of who knows it in. Disgusting. The table behind us has 6 children who continued to band their utensils together. Table behind my husband the woman was drunk and letting her 6 year old drink her wine! Then her children played in the bathroom together for about 20 minutes banging and making noise. Waitresses kept bumping into our chairs. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. They take too many reservations and can’t seat everyone. It’s a mess and the food isn’t good. Service is sub par. Atmosphere horrible. Go someone where else!

Opted for outside seating (to alleviate inside noise issues). Although we reserved days in advance and other two-tops were available, we were seated at a table closest to the building under a heater which wasn’t working. It was a raw windy night and we needed to wear our coats for the duration of our meal. Definite detraction from an otherwise reliably good dining experience.
