I didn't know where to go for my birthday celebration and my coworker recommended this place. It didn't disappoint. AMAZING!
Food was great and the space is fun and urban; however the noise level was very loud! Wish there were someway to bring that down. Otherwise a great experience!
On a Friday night, it is loud you will have to shout to the person next to you. Noisy, dive-y spot, which could be fun if you’re in the mood for that.
Love the vibe.
Exactly what I was looking for based on their website.
Love that there are no televisions.
Made for a great dining experience
Good cocktails and a solid menu. This was my second time back and it didn’t disappoint.
A reasonable menu, well prepared with above average service.
So hard to talk to one another because it was so loud and the servers kept asking if we were done with our food or would hover behind us waiting to immediately clear the table at the first sign.
Food was incredible. Service was horrible.
I didn’t know this reservation was a ruse for my boyfriend to propose along the way, but our meal and celebration immediately following our special moment was perfect. Our server was genuine in his well wishes and the food was perfect!
This is one of my favorite weekend brunch places. Sean the bartender takes amazing care of you. Order the giant German Pilsner and the pulled pork benedict. Yummmm...
Food was consistently tasty and creative
The grits were delicious!! Felt like I was back in the South. Buttery goodness cures a hangover.
The service was excellent. Our server was warm and friendly. The restaurant itself was very interesting. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best and not worth the money. I ordered a salad with chicken that was incredibly disappointing. I expected a "salad" with chicken and got a flattened out, dry cutlet with a small amount of greens on top. It was a cool place to visit but in the end we would have been better off just stopping in for a drink. Sangria was very good.
Excellent food, happy hour drinks were great!
Great atmosphere. The burger was amazing and staff was kind and attentive. Would recommend.
Food (Eggplant Benedict) was amazing and the service was great too. Music was a bit too loud to carry on a conversation; if the management could tone it down during the day that'd be awesome. Great place all in all, 5 stars!
This is possibly the worst run restaurant in New York City. The hostesses can’t seem to figure out how to seat 4 people to watch the World Cup final in front of a tv as requested. The level of incompetence is unbelievable. The way the manager treats people is lower than you would treat your worst enemy. This place should be shut down and everyone should decide to go to a place that really values your business. Overpriced burnt fries are the best thing at boulton and watt. You have lost 4 customers forever.
Unfortunately it was very loud when we were there, but judging by the face of the servers that was not normal and they were very unhappy with the particular groups guilty of shouting obnoxiously at each other. Aside from that, really great food, perfect portion size and lovely staff.
Perfect for a big group that wants to stay and have drinks before or afterwards
There's a lot to improve, especially about food
The cookie skillet was incredible and just what I wanted! I was surprised how much I did not like the brownie batter jar, but maybe it was because after the rich gooey chocolate of the cookie, it just didn't taste chocolatey enough?
Amazing food and drinks for very reasonable prices (esp in NYC). Will definitely be back
Too loud to have a conversation. Waitress rarely stopped by. Forgot one of our drinks and blamed someone else. Tables were too close to each other and we had to get up whenever someone from the table behind us wanted to exit. Shame the service and noise were bad because the food and drinks were really good.
Very fun menu, food ranged from very good (Bibb lettuce salad, cinnamon donuts) to just fine (short rib, pickles, brussels sprouts) but the menu was great and the whole evening was lovely. Too loud inside. Very attentive waitstaff.
Great, open air location that never gets too crowded or too loud. Perfect for meeting up with friends. Service is amazing and the food is good with large portions.
Really great food, service, and overall atmosphere! Portions are decent sized and drinks are tasty and strong. Noise level is high, so be prepared to shout.
Our waitress was amazing! And the food was so good! Defenitly would recommend
This was my second time eating at this restaurant - both times because my son's band was playing at "Mercury Lounge" and I was looking for a nearby quality restaurant to meet for dinner before the show. I think the menu is very creative; like the many vegetarian options and the variety of food and drinks. I found the service very good, although sometimes needed to wave the waitress over for a drink re-fill. My only continuing complaint about this spot is the noise level. Although I requested a 'quiet table' and was seated close to the front near the window; I still found it very difficult to carry on a conversation. I know that I am much older than your usual patron (62); but it appears that many people at the other nearby tables were almost yelling to be heard while in conversation with people sitting right by their side or across the table. I understand that it is a VERY old building and the acoustics are probably not very good; but WHY NOT turn down the background music!! I hope you take this comment seriously - and maybe when I return in the future, it will be at least a little bit quieter inside the restaurant!!
Delicious food, reasonable prices. They gave us a free round of drinks for waiting. Very noisy, hard to talk.
Met some friends here for dinner. We each enjoyed our meals. I had the Crispy Quinoa and Kale Salad with chicken and it was delicious. My friend enjoyed her Baked Goat Cheese snack with flat bread. Only con was music was too loud and I couldn't really hear my friends talk.
Very disappointing service. Our waiter forgot to put in our order. 45 minutes had passed, and people on either side of us, who came after us, had gotten our food. He came out to apologize and asked us for our order again. The pickled pineapple came 20 minutes later, and was not enjoyable. We hardly touched it.
The waiter charged us full price for our sides when we subbed them in place of home fries. We got no discount on the service or lack of enjoyment of our food, and were even charged too much because of the sides.
Very disappointing. We were so excited to try this place, but the service was terrible and really threw a wrench in our whole experience.
Very good food. Servers were helpful but didn't come to the table as often to check in. Would come back though!
A very cool vibe when you walk in. A friendly atmosphere and friendly staff. The service here is top notch. We had a group of 8, yet the staff was on top of everything. There were no mistakes or dishes/drinks forgotten. The food was amazing! The appetizers were so good, we are tempted to go back just to graze! Dinners were creative and delicious. The cocktail menu is awesome! I highly recommend this restaurant for great food and a good time!
Friendly service, good beer, wine, drink selection. Fish tacos and mac & cheese were very good. Would definitely go back
Been here multiple times, always love my service. I think today was an exception, but our waitress was leaving and didn’t care for our table. This resulted in us being completely ignored and having to go to the bar to have the lovely bartender, Sean (or Shawn?), help us out. Will continue to go back, but hope to not have this poor service again. Be back next Sunday!
Boulton and Watt has a cool rustic interior and an interesting and eclectic menu. The Mexican Revolver cocktail was quite tasty and the food was above average and a good value. Once we were seated, the service was exceptionally fast and attentive.
The Amish chicken dish had a generous portion of chicken with delicious mashed potatoes. The chunks of bacon in the potatoes were mouthwatering.
The only minor things that could have been improved:
We had to wait about 15-20 minutes after our reservation to be seated. The staff tried to get happy hour patrons to leave (this was at 8:30 pm, not happy hour time) so that we could have a nice table, but failed to do so and we had to end up sitting on bar stools.
My fish tacos were very spicy considering that there was no warning or indication that this was a spicy dish. Luckily, I can handle a good amount of spice but many people I know would have had trouble finishing it.
Noise level is quite loud but that's pretty much par for the course for a popular LES bar on a warm Friday night.
Overall, I'll return for the above average food and cool ambiance.
The atmosphere and service were great. The brunch items were delicious but the drinks (mimosas and sangria) need improvement .
Terrible food it was cold, noise level appealing dirty table and cutlery
