Taking its name from the mythological lion-headed, eagle-winged monster—Grifone's statues and paintings inside depict the restaurant's namesake—this cozy Northern Italian restaurant flies below the radar. It is all about sauces, with many dishes reflecting the restaurant's regional roots with wine or butter-and-lemon sauces. A thin glaze of seasoned white wine sauce adds a sharply intense flavor to the large slabs of swordfish, while the tomato and cream sauces do more than just complement the various pastas, they add a finely calibrated sweetness. — David S. My favorite restaurant in New York and my weekly must do. I am always greeted by the owner and treated with respect and graciousness. The waiters treat me with one on one service. The food is delicious and you can adjust the menu to add other ingredients. At some point Mario the owner will sit with you and ask how your meal is? I always feel at home in this old nyc style restaurant of sophistication . Thank goodness this restaurant exists and serves the best Italian restaurant in nyc. Katarina

Grifone is the best Italian Restaurant in New York City and one of the best restaurants of all categories in New York City. Always a go to restaurant everytime I'm in New York!

This was our first visit to the Grifone and what a lovely surprise. The restaurant is wonderfully quiet so you can have a pleasant conversation during dinner. The service was charming and fun. The food was extremely good. We will make a point of returning very soon.

Wonderful Valentine's day meal, great service, and the best cannoli I've had in a long time. We had the minestrone, gnocchi, and veal Sorrentina. All were fabulous!

A great Valentine’s Day! With delicious salmon and a steak that is thick,tender and juicy. This is a find in nyc as restaurants of this quality and old time nyc service is not available anymore. The owner Mario greets you and makes sure that your experience at the restaurant is perfect. The waiters aim to please and serve you in a professional manner. This is a must go to restaurant if you live in nyc or are visiting. This is a restaurant that I bring friend,clients and celebrate special occasions. For me it is a weekly must as there is no other ITALIAN restaurant comparable to griffones. KATARINA

It was a nice place but when we asked what is in the menu items they told us the specials instead and charged you $20 more a dish. I won’t go back.
