The Beatrice Inn is the embodiment of an underground New York chophouse that has been redefined by Executive Chef & Owner Angie Mar. In its rich history, this restaurant has served as a speakeasy in the 1920s, a neighborhood Italian restaurant for over 50 years, and a night club for Hollywood A-listers. Now, under the ownership of Chef Mar, The Beatrice's meat-centric menu focuses on dry aging, cuts from around the globe, and delicate combinations of fruits and herbs.

Excellent food and service especially given the circumstances. Meats are always delicious and enjoyed the preparation of the hearts of romaine salad and chestnut cake covered in flaming cognac at the table!

Very disappointed in the 60 DAY DRY AGED CÔTE DE BOEUF. Came out essentially Raw and had to send it back. Very fatty, not good a good cut. Burger was solid. Creamed swiss chard was tasty. Overall cool place, but have had better steaks almost everywhere else. Overall overpriced.

Never a good experience, when dessert is the best part of the meal. Steak we ordered, just wasn’t good. Too greasy and over buttered, and it was served luke warm. Good drinks. Our waiter was okay, not super helpful, the support staff was excellent.

We've enjoyed dining at the Beatrice Inn once before, but unfortunately, the most recent time we went for dinner, the restaurant had difficulty delivering top-quality service, food selection and overall experience. The restaurant struggled the night we were dining there and half their menu was unavailable (the entire raw section and then select entrees and side dishes). I had called a few hours before our reservation to let them know it was a special birthday event. They did not notify us then of the situation, therefore, we went and were hugely disappointed with the selection and our meal. Further, they completely forgot it was a special birthday evening despite my request only hours before. They did however accommodate my partner's injury who was on crutches and needed booth seating. Overall, it's a shame because we did dine there once before and enjoyed it, but this time was completely different and we left largely unsatisfied.

Took my gf here for Valentines. The restaurant had a pre-fix menu. The food was amazing and so was the bottle of wine we ordered. The only bad thing I would have to say is that the when we asked for a recommendation for wine our server was honest and said that the sommelier would be better suited to answer that question. Which I admired the waiter’s honesty. The bad part was the sommelier never showed up to our table to suggest a wine. We went ahead and chosen one after waiting about 20 minutes or so for the sommelier to greet us. Besides that the experience was wonderful.

The burger was phenomenal. However my entire group was disappointed with our steak. It was very average and did not stand out from any other average steak. Also it came out room temperature so it must have been sitting for a while after being cooked.

The Bea has always had odd service (the awkward wine and supplement upselling they're known for at this point) but the food is good and service otherwise good enough to look past the blips. But something was way off this night. Food started fine. Though when serving a shared dish, why is everything in threes? Petite Plateau has three prawns, three each of two kinds of oysters - what are we supposed to do, split an oyster? Most people dine in pairs, most people these days share food, everything should by default come in multiples of two. We ordered a red wine to go with our entree, but they brought it out while we were still on our apps, with near-full glasses of white still. It needs time to breathe, they gave us an approval taste first, fine, that's de rigeur. What's not fine is then just leaving the bottle AND two empty red wine glasses sitting on an already--pretty-cluttered table. Are they trying to get people to drink sooner and order more? Is it some new thing? I don't know, all I know is it made our table cluttered and felt like they were rushing us. When ordering a three-digit bottle, come on... Mid-way through our entree, a server came by to dish out our remaining sides. They put two scoops of chard on my plate (which already had some) and none on my companion's (which had none) before abruptly whisking away the serving plate. It honestly came across like someone in back told them they needed the serving dish back and to just dump the contents anywhere. Again, kinda feeling rushed. We'll be back, as we've had great meals before. The Bea has earned our repeat business. Off nights happen. This night was one of them.

t's interesting but probably not worth the price. We came for dinner and were seated after having a drink at the bar. If you go early the bar is tolerable, but as it gets later it turns into a zoo. Seating was comfortable and the service was good. The wine list is incredibly overpriced, and if you bring your own, which I would suggest, the corkage is also an outrageous $75 per bottle. Clearly they want you to buy their stuff. The wine list is good and most of the bottles are priced at 3.5-4.5 times retail, which is not out of line for a good restaurant. The food was expensive and good. The duck is great but I wish they would carve it at the table. My wife thought that they keep lighting the same duck over and over, and have the carved ones ready to go in the kitchen. Any Chinese restaurant does it tableside. The oxtail was fantastic, very meaty and beautifully cooked. The steak was way overpriced for what it was, but it was good. The only permeating problem is that most items had too much salt. Vegetables were served cold and were not good at all. Finally the marrow bone creme brulee was worth the wait, creative, tasty and fun eating. Overall an expensive meal with lots more that can be had at the price. I wouldn't avoid it but wouldn't hurry back

We arrived on time for an 8:30 reservation. We couldn’t get updates from the hostess and ended up waiting over an hour to be seated. It was too late to go anyplace else by that time. I had planned a nice dinner for our of town guests the experience was disappointing. When we finally did sit down the food was good, but we had snacked while waiting so weren’t really hungry by that point. Would have loved to aurally age a full meal since the menu looked great, but it was too late by that point.

We had a wonderful evening here for my wife's birthday dinner. I explained she was pregnant and they did everything to accommodate. The food and drinks were all flavorful and nicely presented. Our waiter Steven was very knowledgeable on the menu and made great recommendations. He honestly can make any dish sound delicious. We had the Foie Gras Truffle Torchon, Venison/Trotter Pie w/bone marrow, Roast Duck Flambe, the Pommes side, and Bone Marrow dessert. All the dishes were incredible. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised on just how good this place really was. Better than some of the Michelin rated restaurants we've dined at. Well done Beatrice Inn...I will definitely be back and highly recommend it!

The Beatrice Inn WAS one of our go-to restaurants for an occasion. We had a very disappointing dinner. We were 5 people celebrating 2 birthdays. The waiter explained the menu describing appetizers, "middle dishes" (that were meat and fish entree choices) and their steak selections for 2-4 people. We ordered 6 appetizers that were all good. We ordered a 32 oz. $185 sirloin steak medium rare, which arrived raw. We asked our server to take back the steak and prepare it medium rare and to please bring the "middle dish." The server continued to slice and plate the dish. We sent the steak back twice and were told: "this is medium-rare at The Beatrice Inn." We've had steak plenty, it was raw AND lacked flavor. The pork shoulder and burger were tasty. The pricey Bordeaux we ordered at the sommelier's recommendation was not great. The sommelier began questioning us as to what other Bordeaux's we liked with a condescending attitude. The manager came over to ask how we were enjoying our experience. When we told him it felt it was mediocre, he was annoyed and immediately walked away. We've been here a few times over the years and had a wonderful experience from the food to the service. Unfortunately, things have changed and we can't say the same anymore. Go to a steak house if you want a great steak and service, it's surely lacking at The Beatrice Inn.

We had not been since there was a change of chef and obviously philosophy. I hadn't checked the menu in advance, but was surprised to learn the new system involves ordering large portions of everything (including starters) for the table to share, so we were not experiencing individual meals. (It also helps if your appetite leans toward foie gras and pate and things slathered in duck fat.) I don't mind an expensive meal -- this was a birthday celebration -- but it all felt overthought, pretentious and overpriced for what we actually got. We enjoy the space and the feel, and the service was excellent (waiter did his best to help us figure out our order), but we will not be returning until the next reinvention.

Had dinner at Beatrice Inn the other night and was appalled by the Chef (and owner) Angie Mar. My buddie and I were eating at the bar (which had 7 other patrons) as the restaurant was almost empty (we now know why). The bartender Jose was extremely helpful and could not have been nicer. We ordered a 60 Day dry-aged Cote De Boeuf medium-rare. It came out a bit more rare but was edible (except for the extra fat). My friend wanted a little more heat added to his portion and the chef lambasted the staff member for asking all within earshot of the customers. Extremely unprofessional to say the least and the killjoy of a fun evening. While many Chefs feel that they are part of the Hollywood experience what they need to understand is that they are running a business and unfortunately for them the customers are actually key to the success of the business, not having the employees bow down to them while alienating their customers. Plenty of great steak in NYC and more than enough places that treat their customers with respect.

A wonderful out of the way spot. The bar was very appealing. The dining room was very tasteful. The service was very attentive but not obtrusive. Now the food was outstanding. Although some people mention the price and it is expensive for the signature dishes, you can still have a memorable meal for less than your monthly rent payment and comparable to most NYC steakhouses. The duck was tender, tasty and wonderfully presented. Enough for 3 people or for the next night for two. Excellent salads and appetizers.
