I have written a RAVE review of this restaurant in 2016 when it was exceptional. I recently took an exec in town from the northeast US here based on my previous experiences and it was embarrassing. What happened? Is no one checking on what the cooks are plating anymore? For starters, the description on the menu was changed without consulting me and the alternate presentation was terrible. What was listed as caper brown butter finish on grilled branzino was a dry, off-smelling fish with under-cooked head on the plate and a glob of tasteless blood orange on half of the malodorous fish. I asked for filet, which is how they would finish it for plating in the past. My guest received an equally ordinary and unimpressive dish, I lost credibility as one who knows the dining choices downtown - as there are MANY better options. Crossed off my list for good.

The pizza was burnt, and the pasta and pizza were both insanely salty. We had to drink an entire carafe of water to just mitigate the salt taste, and neither one of us could finish our meal. The flavor of the pasta could have been salt for all we know, it had no other discernible taste. The garlic pizza had so much salt flavor it burned the tongue. The wine and appetizers were fine, and the service wasn’t terrible, but they really need to use less salt on the pizza and pasta.

Not great. Good service, but expected more from the food. The most memorable part of the meal... is that noting was memorable about the meal. Should have been a better experience for the price.

Rione XIII has never disappointed! I've been here a few times after moving into the neighborhood and love it. The pasta is always amazing and love the different appetizer options. We usually pick out a couple of the pasta's to share because it's more fun to have a bit of everything. Cocktails and wine list is great and the atmosphere is fun. Open and airy yet also can be intimate. Love it :)

I could probably give it a better review on the basis of the artichokes, but we ordered the squash - which needed salt, and then two pasta dishes which had the thicker spaghetti expecting an interesting experience. The plating of one of was lovely, my carbonara was like a cereal bowl overloaded with a huge portion of thick pasta - hardly appealing. While the flavor was good, it was too much, crowded in its bowl, and way too thick - especially by Roman standards. The Roman artichokes were the highlight - with a lovely aioli. Ambiance was great, but I never go out for pasta because I can make it well enough myself, and was perhaps setting my sights too high. The service was impeccable, the ambiance wonderful, and I'm guessing an order adjustment would have resulted in a higher rating for me.

the service was good but our waitress was not very friendly. and just a little peeve--when there is a bottle of water on the table, she should not come over and interrupt our conversation to pour water from the bottle into our glasses. it was an awkward moment-we were in a very personal conversation and all of a sudden her arm was in our faces. otherwise and overall, good experience.

I had high hopes going into my meal after personal recommendations from friends and reviews here but my food was burnt and poor quality. Let me start with the good, service was AMAZING. The waitstaff was immediately on top of everything we needed. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and energetic. You could tell she enjoyed her time there. It wasn't too loud and the setting was great. Unfortunately, my food was burnt on top and cold in the middle. I ordered the Gnocchi alla Romana. Was really underwhelmed with the dish and only finished half.

Nice mbiance w/ brick walls, very good service. I went for Restaurant Week, had a cocktail and it ended up costing $57 total for one. The best parts were the cocktail, a backberry, tequila, mezcal mix, and the five appetizers they brought, which were all great to very good, and a bit unusual and creative. The main, roasted duck leg with nice sides, was good, although a little overcooked. The dessert, pinapple cake with ice cream and goat cheese caramel was actually pretty bland, and kind of pointless. I wish they had a dessert that included chocolate. The servers were fine and did not make me feel uncomfortable as a single diner.

Nice location, friendly waiters, tasty food - the only observation I have is that pastas are a bit too much on the peppery and salty side, so I would recommend making them a bit more mild, true to the Italian recipes.

I made a reservation at the recommendation of a co-worker and world travelling foodie. My date and I were happy with our seats. We even switched before the main course to get a feel for the opposing view. It was our first time there, and luckily for us it was restaurant week. The full appetizer menu was provided as well as one main course each and one dessert each. Appetizers included a simple Caesar salad of romaine and dressing, gnocchi that was pan seared and very unlike traditional gnocchi, but delicious none the less, a corn chowder with roasted leeks that packed a strong and pungent flavor and small bits of pork that were there for the protein, bruscetta with "Lardo" and figs which was my favorite app, and an heirloom tomato and cruton salad which came in second. All apps were provided in close succession which had me wondering if the place was just trying to feed us and turnover the table in order to pump out some real dollars. That was not the case. My date and I talked for a solid twenty minutes before the main course was delivered, and when it arrived we were ready for it. One was a medium rare fillet mignon on fingerling potatoes. The other was a roasted duck leg on a bed of grains and a sweet potato puree. Both were fantastic and did not leave us hungry for more, which is always a concern for me being a hungry individual. Since the reservation was for 8:15 p.m. on a Thursday by the time the deserts came out we were both tired and full, so I can't give them a proper review. However, I will say the Rocky Road ice cream came with a medium hardness brownie, a crunchy shortbread cookie, and rich chocolate ice cream that really could not be let go to waste.

The ravioli portion was silly small; the server didn't know the menu or ingredients, so couldn't answer questions; the bruschetta was toast, lard and figs (seriously); the pasta amatriciana was very very very salty; and a whole bottle of wine was (mistakenly) added to our bill. In summary, I was embarrassed that I brought my project group to Rione on Weds Oct 18.

The meal was excellent. My one major issue was the type and noise level of the music they played. It was way too loud. I asked them to turn it down, which didn't seem to make any difference. It is really a mystery to me why lovely restaurants like this feel the need to play loud "thumping" music. It dimished our enjoyment of the meal. There were 5 of us and we had trouble hearing each other. Even though the food and service was great, I may not return because of the distracting music.

Charcuterie plate was tasty and perfect start to the meal. Gnocchi alla Romana is 6 giant gnocchis, which was unique. Seasonal fig pizza was indulgent and perfect for sharing. No beer on draught, which is somewhat surprising for the Seattle area. They do have bottled options. Rated 4 for service because the beverage service was slow. No fault of our server, though.

We ordered a variety of items from the menu and shared each course . Overall the food was okay, but bland. The pig ears were overcooked and inedible. The Suppli al Telefono was comfort food but underwhelming and a bit bland. The Gnocchi alla Romana is always good and was exactly what we expected. The Veal Chop Saltimbocca was so-so and more salty than anything else (though the escarole was lovely). From a service perspective, we had multiple items accidentally brought to our table that were intended for others, it took our waitress excess time to bring beverages and she brought us our check before asking if we wanted dessert - very rude! No one seemed to care how we enjoyed our experience at the restaurant.
