Chef Vincenzo Mangiafridda, a twenty-year restaurant veteran of the Upper East Side, wanted to open a restaurant that spoke to his deep Sicilian roots. In 83 1/2, his vision has become reality. He created a menu of memorable Italian dishes including silky pastas, inventive antipasti, and delicious entrees.

First time here. A little crowded and noisy but made up for by excellent food and service. Everything we had was delicious and this could become one of our neighborhood favorites!

Food, wine and service was excellent. We were able to have a lovely dinner without feeling rushed. Waiter was very attentive. One of the few places serving Lambrusco! I can’t wait to return. UES gem.

Ambience is everything here. Food is good not great. Service is becoming surly. Initially, we felt rushed by our server. It went downhill through the meal, he became rude. In the end, he never came to take our dessert/coffee order, so we chose to just pay and leave. It’s too bad; we’ve eaten here many times and the restaurent is lovely inside and out.

This restaurant is one of our favorites in our neighborhood. We've eaten there many times, and every meal has been great. The staff is very friendly. The dining room is a little cramped, but in good weather you can eat outside.

We saw our waiter 3 times...thats it. His friendliness was underwhelming. The guy who poured the water was more engaging. The waiter wouldn't take our appetizer order until we could order everything at once. It wasn't even busy. Such a disappointment...Will never go back.

The food was delicious and reasonable for New York. We had a wonderful meal, the specials were creative and the regular menu had several dishes to choose from. We had a hard time making up our minds. The service was attentive and friendly. Great neighborhood spot!

The food is excellent and the selection strong. Very good fresh pasta. Loved the Buccatini and also the Fettucini with mushrooms. Decent selection of wines.

If you’re looking for the most obnoxious restaurant “manager” on the upper East side- this is the place for you. As a regular customer, expected some accommodation when I asked to sit side by side with my wife when the place was empty and continued to be so throughout the nite. Power struggle completely unnecessary. Couple next to me never received veal chop as ordered and went hungry. No one is in charge and although the food is good, we no longer need the abuse. Good luck

First time at 83-1/2. Outside dining was lovely, terrific service, wide menu offerings and delicious food. Special veal Parmigiano was outstanding and Brussel sprouts appetizer was divine. Would definitely return

Food was excellent. Appetizers and pastas were great, good portions for price and amazing quality. Service a bit slower, but understandable, however a/c wasn't working great for a summer dinner dining experience. Will definitely come back again.

83 1/2 has very good food, a terrific menu selection and gives generous portions. The outdoor dining area is one of the best in the neighborhood and is attractively set up with white tablecloths and comfortable chairs. The BYOB offering on selected nights is an added attraction. It is a very good value.

Always delicious! If you haven’t been to 83 1/2, make it a priority to rectify that. From the focaccia brought to the table with olive oil and balsamic, to the generous cocktails, creative pastas, salads, mains and desserts - never a disappointment. One of the best Caesar salads ever, and I can never turn down the delicately fried crispy baby artichokes. Cozy interior plus great people watching from the outdoor area.

Again, and again, I returned to this lovely little spot on the upper east side, where the food is authentic Italian, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the selections are numerous. The space is old world, Italian and quiet, and the food is inventive and exceptional.
