Everything we ordered (oysters, shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, hush puppies) were very good. But the food is super rich... although I really enjoyed my stomach was not so happy... However I would come back!!! The only item I would not order again are the hush puppies... a bit dry and boring.

Sad to see this one go. I have enjoyed CH's southern offerings for both brunch and dinner and have not had any misses yet. The only thing negative I've ever had was service, both in past and more recently. Today it was the hostess who seemed quite harried and unprepared. She didn't seem to want to help me find my party at all and kept brushing me aside but otherwise, our server and the bussers were all very nice and the food was, as usually, very tasty. I'll be curious to see what replaces CH in the future.

We really enjoyed our southern dinner. Biscuit was flakey and delicious! Chicken thigh was tender and tasty. Mac and cheese with just the right crust. Cornbread had too much molasses for my taste.

The Carriage House, for Sunday brunch, is popular (crowded) but conversationally challenged due to music on blast mode. It offered an interesting but very limited brunch menu with a la carte items priced over the top. $5.00 for one egg?? Puh-leeze! Pleasant, efficient serving staff. Some good, some not-so good brunch entrees. Not worth a return visit.

This place is great for people who cannot eat gluten as there are generally a wide variety of grits dishes. They have delicious cornbread too. For brunch, I would recommend the chicken and biscuit or the pork pork shoulder. Both were quite good.

We dined here earlyish on a Friday evening. The place was pretty empty. We had heard about the southern menu, and were eager to try it out. My partner an I ordered a salad , biscuits, fried chicken and shrimp and grits to share. The salad and biscuits came out first. I am not a huge biscuit fan, but these honey-drizzled beauties were the best I had ever eaten. We had about three minutes to enjoy ths before the rest of the food came out. The table was covered with plates, and now our attention was all over the place trying to sample the new while finishing the old. Long story shot, we were out of there in 45 minutes. We usually like to take longer to enjoy our food, maybe have a second glass of wine. Not tonight. They need to slow things down-- but the food was great.

I'd been here before for dinner, and fell in love with the shareable plates of modern southern food. I was even more impressed when I went to book a group of six for brunch on the weekend of Renegade Craft Fair. We wanted something unique and close to the fair, and loved how Carriage House took reservations so we didn't have to wait in line. We got a seat on the sunny patio, which was perfect for people watching during the craft fair. The food was amazing, highly recommend the 40oz Bloody Mary for sharing. The service was a bit slow at times, and some of our plates were forgotten and didn't come out. But the problem was quickly addressed when pointed out. Overall would go back without question.

We had a really challenging service experience at Carriage House. Our party of 6 was seated at 7:05, and not greeted by our server, Sadie (she was lovely, by the way!), until 7:30. We ordered drinks at that point, and didn't get our cocktails until around 8. We ordered food at that point, and received multiple dishes that weren't ours. The kitchen seemed extremely flustered & out of sorts. We had someone come by and ask us if everything was delicious, and promptly walked away before anyone at the table answered. It was a challenging evening, that seemed to be driven by the kitchen and not our server. Great food, but probably won't be returning anytime soon because we didn't get out until 9pm--- nearly 2 hours after we arrived.

Food was wonderful. Beignets' and cornbread were bit hits for sharing. Pork Shoulder, Shrimp and Grits and French Toast were all excellent. Parking is a chore. Service tends to be slow, bit a good excuse to just enjoy time together and not obsess about getting served fast. Waitress was very friendly and doing the best possible job given the crowd and staffing

We thought everything at our Carriage House brunch tasted great, and the service was great too. We had Beignets, two chicken biscuits, the pork shoulder, and the shrimp and grits (me). The gravy and biscuits on the chicken dish and the grits were exceptional. The only complaint we had was that the portion of the shrimp and grits was really small. Like, it was barely enough grits to cover the bottom of the dish, with two not-very-large shrimp. I don't know who could possibly consider it a meal. I was lucky my wife couldn't eat her entire chicken biscuit.

This was my first time to Carriage House, and I went with friends for brunch on a Sunday. Everyone loved it. The drinks were great, especially the punch. It does pack a "punch" (sorry not sorry) and was described perfectly in the menu: "It's brunch. Who cares?" Well I did care anyway, and enjoyed it. I ordered the shrimp and grits. My previous favorite was from a place in South Carolina (Lowcountry all the way), but I think this topped it. The grits were solid and the shrimp was sweet and juicy, but it had a bit of broth/sauce with it that knocked it out of the park. Shrimpy, bright, and earthy, I wanted to drink it. I had told the server that I was fairly hungry, and she recommended having a side. I got the potatoes, which were hot and crunchy on the outside but creamy on the inside. Having that with the shrimp was the perfect amount for me. (The shrimp and grits alone was a decent size for a moderate appetite but not a big one. I wouldn't call it small, though.) Others at my table had the chicken and biscuit. Like the potatoes, the chicken was perfectly crunchy without being dry, and the biscuit and gravy were deliciously comforting. It was well-balanced overall, and my friends were happy that it wasn't too much of a gut buster. The only downside of our meal was that our server could have been a bit quicker to come and get our order. Nonetheless, she was quite friendly and helpful with the menu. We'll all be coming back for sure.

We went as a group of 8, everyone enjoyed their food. The Beignets and expresso sauce were to die for and the brunch and mimosa cocktails were awesome. A couple of us had the oyster benedict and on receiving the eggs a little transparent in color my friend asked to have them cooked further, the waiter made a point of telling her that's how they were supposed to be cooked, does it matter? She took the plate away and returned swiftly with eggs cooked to my friends liking. Although the deep fried oysters were good the eggs/sauce/muffins were lacking anything notable. The ambience was great and the interior laid back and trendy, I was a little dissapointed to rate the carriage house good instead of excellent given the previous reviews, I'm going to have to try again in the hope that their more famous dishes the chicken and biscuit, srimp and grits and pork belly and peaches win me over.

Let me start my saying that my 83 year old parents grew up in the south and my husband and his family are all from the south. I would also like to point out that we eat out 5 out of 7 days and consider ourselves well versed in many cuisines offered in the Chicagoland area as well as elsewhere. I am all for creating "nouveau" cuisine but when you change/manipulate the traditional one needs to make darn sure that thenewlycreated version is better. Hard biscuits, chicken and dumplings without a gravy/cream sauce, and underseasoned low boils is not going to cut it. I suggest the chefs/cooks take trip to Savannah to the Olde Pink House or betteryet Mrs Wilkes Boarding House to see if re'inventing the wheel isthe way to go....keeping the traditional and adding enhancements to whats already there is whatCarriage House should concentrate on to improve their offerings...please donot hide behind that 4 star rating...its not real.
